[EN] The subject of this Bachelor Thesis is a Valencian painting from the second half of the XVIII century. It is a study of an old man’s head, whose iconography could represent “Saint Anthony Penitent or simply an anchorite Saint”. Technically and, as one of the most important features, we can highlight that the painting has never been restored, keeping all his technical and material original components. This painting is an oil on canvas. The most important developed items for the project have been: the histo- ric-artistic study of the painting, its stylistic study, the technical study and the restoration of the work. All technical studies and the restoration have been done at the Laboratorio de Conservación y Restauración de Pintura de Caballete y Retablos at Universitat Politècnica de València. Fortunately, it could be realized a whole labour of conservation and restoration in all phases.[ES] La obra objeto del presente Trabajo Final de Grado es una pintura valenciana de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. The present Final Master's Work is the result of the analysis and identification of an oil painting panel of the sixteenth century from the Navaro Alcacer collection representing San Sebastian, in his traditional martyr attire, tied to a column, naked and with the arrows stuck into his body. Almost no studies of this table have been published so far, due its primitive attribution to Los Hernandos and their circle (1953). It was only later that it was brought to the attention of scholars by Fernando Benito in the appendix to the Joan de Joanes catalog: A new vision of the artist and his work (2000). The analyzed work consists in a painting on a small pine panel (78.5 x 34.4 cm). It s size was later increased by adding two wooden slats on both vertical sides. Its state of conservation is fragile; with large oil repaints, rusty varnishes, generalized dirt and cracks on the surface, caused by the tensions between the joints through internal metal parts and the natural movements of the original and added wood. Several technical and artistic aspects have been considered for the assignment of the authorship of the work, which led to confirm significant parallelisms with Juanes own work, especially with his paintings performed between 1540-50. As a consequence of this research process, enough relevant data were collected as to finally assign the authorship of the work to the most important painter of the Valencian mannerism. There has also been a benchmark study of graphic sources between the known works of the painter and those of other contemporary artists, in search of similarities with Juanes. In addition, a technical study of the work has been developed, both with non-invasive and invasive methodology, analyzing the samples in the laboratories of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the Institute of Heritage Restoration of said campus, comparing the results with technical analysis of other tables from Juanes. [EN] This scientific article is the result of the analysis and identification of the work Saint Sebastian, preserved in the Navarro Alcácer collection since the end of the 19th century. In it, an attempt is made to clarify the authorship of the work, basing its final conclusion on the historical-artistic analysis and on the scientific-technical on Juan de Juanes' painting, his artistic influences and the iconography represented, continuing with the study of its materials, which have made it possible to approximate the table in an accurate way to the Juanes production of mid 16th century.García Sanz, AL.; Guerola Blay, V.; Pérez Marín, E. Digitalización de documentos para generar recursos educativos virtuales

Get PDF

Support from the Spanish Nutrition Society (SEN) is highly acknowledged. The following are available online at https://www.mdpi.com/article/10 .3390/nu13093262/s1, Excel data review results. The health-transitions humans have delivered during the 20th Century associated with the nutrition is that from undernutrition to obesity, which perseveres in the current years of the 21st Century. Energy intake (EI) is a contributing factor and therefore a fascination in nutritional sciences. However, energy expenditure (EE) has not been usually considered as a conjoint factor. Thus, this study aimed to review if studies on adults consider data on dietary intake, specifically EI, and included data on EE and physical activity (PA). A search of MEDLINE from 1975 to December 2015 was managed. Our scoping review consisted of keywords related to EI, dietary allowances, and nutritional requirements. From 2229 acknowledged articles, 698 articles were finally taken fulfilling inclusion and quality criteria. A total of 2,081,824 adults (53.7% females) were involved, and most studies had been conducted in EEUU (241), Canada (42), Australia (30), Japan (32), and Brazil (14). In Europe, apart from UK (64), the Netherlands (31) and France (26) led the classification, followed by Sweden (18), Denmark (17), and France (26). Mediterranean countries are represented with 27 studies. A total of 76.4% did not include EE and 93.1% did not include PA. Only 23.6% of the studies contained both EI and EE. A large methodological diversity was perceived, with more than 14 different methods regarding EI, and more than 10 for EE. PA was only analyzed in scarce articles, and scarcely considered for interpretation of data and conclusions. Moreover, PA was often measured by subjective questionnaires. Dietary surveys show a large diversity regarding methodology, which makes comparability of studies difficult. EE and PA are missing in around 80% of studies or are not included in the interpretation of results. Conclusions regarding EI or diet adequacy in adults should not be taken without analyzing EE and PA.Spanish Nutrition Society (SEN

Objectives: Opioid-induced constipation (OIC) can affect up to 63% of all patients with cancer. The objectives of this study were to assess quality of life as well as efficacy and safety of naloxegol, in patients with cancer with OIC. Methods: An observational study was made of a cohort of patients with cancer and with OIC exhibiting an inadequate response to laxatives and treated with naloxegol. The sample consisted of adult outpatients with a Karnofsky performance status score ≥50. The Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAC-QOL) and the Patient Assessment of Constipation Symptoms (PAC-SYM) were applied for 3 months. Results: A total of 126 patients (58.2% males) with a mean age of 61.3 years (range 34-89) were included. Clinically relevant improvements (>0.5 points) were recorded in the PAC-QOL and PAC-SYM questionnaires (p<0.0001) from 15 days of treatment. The number of days a week with complete spontaneous bowel movements increased significantly (p<0.0001) from 2.4 to 4.6 on day 15, 4.7 after 1 month and 5 after 3 months. Pain control significantly improved (p<0.0001) during follow-up. A total of 13.5% of the patients (17/126) presented some gastrointestinal adverse reaction, mostly of mild (62.5%) or moderate intensity (25%). Conclusions: Clinically relevant improvements in OIC-related quality of life, number of bowel movements and constipation-related symptoms were recorded as early as after 15 days of treatment with naloxegol in patients with cancer and OIC, with a good safety profile

Management of acute diverticulitis with pericolic free gas (ADIFAS). an international multicenter observational study

Background: There are no specific recommendations regarding the optimal management of this group of patients. The World Society of Emergency Surgery suggested a nonoperative strategy with antibiotic therapy, but this was a weak recommendation. This study aims to identify the optimal management of patients with acute diverticulitis (AD) presenting with pericolic free air with or without pericolic fluid. Methods: A multicenter, prospective, international study of patients diagnosed with AD and pericolic-free air with or without pericolic free fluid at a computed tomography (CT) scan between May 2020 and June 2021 was included. Patients were excluded if they had intra-abdominal distant free air, an abscess, generalized peritonitis, or less than a 1-year follow-up. The primary outcome was the rate of failure of nonoperative management within the index admission. Secondary outcomes included the rate of failure of nonoperative management within the first year and risk factors for failure. Results: A total of 810 patients were recruited across 69 European and South American centers; 744 patients (92%) were treated nonoperatively, and 66 (8%) underwent immediate surgery. Baseline characteristics were similar between groups. Hinchey II-IV on diagnostic imaging was the only independent risk factor for surgical intervention during index admission (odds ratios: 12.5, 95% CI: 2.4-64, P =0.003). Among patients treated nonoperatively, at index admission, 697 (94%) patients were discharged without any complications, 35 (4.7%) required emergency surgery, and 12 (1.6%) percutaneous drainage. Free pericolic fluid on CT scan was associated with a higher risk of failure of nonoperative management (odds ratios: 4.9, 95% CI: 1.2-19.9, P =0.023), with 88% of success compared to 96% without free fluid ( P <0.001). The rate of treatment failure with nonoperative management during the first year of follow-up was 16.5%. Conclusion: Patients with AD presenting with pericolic free gas can be successfully managed nonoperatively in the vast majority of cases. Patients with both free pericolic gas and free pericolic fluid on a CT scan are at a higher risk of failing nonoperative management and require closer observation
