Self-consistent profile modification in the underdense region of laser-produced plasmas

    Get PDF
Profile modification in the underdense region of laser-plasmas with spatially uniform temperature Te, is studied. A multiple scale method is used to describe self-consistently the plasma flow and the wave field, in (i) the scale of the field wavelength, and (ii) the overall expansion scale. For Te taordinary differential equations with definite boundary conditions are obtained. For a = 0 and weak fields, we explicitly solve the equations and relate the field in the critical layer to the incident field

    Get PDF
The present paper relies on the materials from the files for a reelaboration of Friedrich Bechtel’s epoch-making Die historischen Personennamen des Griechischen (1917: HPNG), that, having basically the same structure as HPNG, will integrate the names of the 1st millenium, which were still not known at its time, and those attested in Linear B, as well as the phraseological collocations, poetic or prosaistic, underlying them, which were taken into account only sporadically in HPNG, and, if possible, their parallels and eventual IE background. The names discussed are classified into three groups: those attested only in 1st millennium Greek, those attested also in Mycenaean, and those attested exclusively in Mycenaean. Special attention is dedicated to four names which reflect inherited lexicon and Indo-European poetic phraseology, namely Ἁρμόδικoς (and Ἁρμoδίκᾱ), Βοᾱ́θοος, Εὐρυφάων (and Εὐρύφαντος), and Φέριστος, Φέρτατος.The present paper relies on the materials from the files for a reelaboration of Friedrich Bechtel’s epoch-making Die historischen Personennamen des Griechischen (1917: HPNG), that, having basically the same structure as HPNG, will integrate the names of the 1st millenium, which were still not known at its time, and those attested in Linear B, as well as the phraseological collocations, poetic or prosaistic, underlying them, which were taken into account only sporadically in HPNG, and, if possible, their parallels and eventual IE background. In a recent paper Manheimer et al.1 attempted to proceed beyond older analyses2 on the ablative corona ejected by planar láser targets. Here we comment on some aspects of the analysis of Ref. 1, common to most previous papers on the subject

Development of a critical structure state alarm system based on the instrumentation of the Botafoc breakwater nº 8 caisson

Balearic Port Authority has developed an instrumentation system for the #8 caisson of the Botafoc breakwater that integrates 12 pressure sensors located at three surfaces, two in contact with the sea water and another with the bottom. This design was completed with an inertial system that measures the angular velocities and the accelerations over the three Cartesian axes. Consequently, the system measures actions (pressures) and reactions (movements and accelerations) experimented by the caisson, due to sea waves and/or other service loads. R+D department of the Port Authority and Polytechnic University of Madrid are working on two directions, the development of new theories on vertical breakwater design that go beyond Goda and Sainflou, and on the creation of a real-time critical structure alarm system, based on the instrumentation installed. This alarm system has two main parts: the instrumentation itself that collects data and processes it on real-time (the data processing compares the pressure law suffered by the caisson in every step process with the design critical state of the caisson, in this case the Goda pressure law for a 6.5 m wave), giving a security coefficient that points out the risk level on real-time; and the alarm system consisting of a monitoring panel located in the Port Control Center that shows the risk level and advises in case of an incidental evacuation of this critical portuary installation

Promoting professionalism through preservice teachers’ collaboration

The professionalism of teachers through collaboration has become increasingly important in the last years. This paper describes the process of designing and validating a questionnaire for the analysis of future Primary and Pre-school teachers’ collaboration patterns. The psychometric properties of the scale were obtained from the analysis of the validity of content (expert judgement and pilot test to 293 students of Primary Education and Pre-school Education at a Spanish university and from construct (factor analysis) and reliability (Cronbach Alpha), obtaining appropiate results (KMO = 0.89; CFI = 0.91; GFI = 0.95; AGFI = 0.96; SMSR = 0.05). Four factors were identified in the questionnaire on collaboration and shared professional learning: Assertiveness and personal willingness to work together, Group Cohesion, Leadership Capacity and Group Awareness. The results obtained are consistent with empirical studies carried out on the teachers’ willingness towards collaboration, ongoing training and teacher professional development
