Rapid internationalization and long-term performance: The knowledge link
Drawing on the knowledge-based view and organizational learning theory, we develop and test a set of hypotheses to provide a first attempt at analyzing the effect of speed of internationalization on long-term performance. Using a panel-data sample of Spanish listed firms (1986-2010), we find that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between speed of internationalization and long-term performance. We also find that whereas technological knowledge steepens this relationship, the diversity of prior international experience flattens it. Our results contribute to the existing IB literature on the performance of FDI, cross-country knowledge transferability, and nonsequential entry
Heavy quark mass effects in parton-to-kaon hadronization probabilities
We examine the relevance of the heavy quarks masses in the perturbative QCD description of hard interactions where charged kaons are produced in the final state. We extract a set of parton-to-kaon hadronization probabilities from a next to leading order QCD global analysis where a general mass variable flavor number scheme accounting for mass effects is implemented. We compare the results with those obtained in the massless approximation and also with those found in the case of final state pions. At variance with the very significant improvement found for the much more precise pion fragmentation phenomenology, the heavy quark mass dependent scheme improves mildly the overall description of current kaon production data. Nevertheless, we find a noticeable reduction in the charm-to-kaon hadronization probability.Fil: Epele, Manuel. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Nuclear and partonic dynamics in the EMC effect
It has been recently confirmed that the magnitude of the EMC effect measured
in electron deep inelastic scattering is linearly related to the Short Range
Correlation scaling factor obtained from electron inclusive scattering. By
using a -rescaling approach we are able to understand the interplay between
the quark-gluon and hadronic degrees of freedom in the discussion of the EMC
effect.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, 2 table. We have incorporated SLAC data and

Longevity of strategic alliances between competitors: A dynamic value creation approach
Strategic alliances (SAs) present both a high value creation potential as well as entailing high management costs. Research on SA duration has generally focused on factors that affect management costs. The underlying logic in these papers is that factors that increase management costs reduce the likelihood of SA survival and, therefore, SA longevity. The basic assumption is that these factors do not affect the rent-generating potential of the SA. However, we argue that certain factors that increase management costs also increase the rent-generating potential. In particular, this is the case in SAs between competitors. This view complements that of SAs between competitors as learning races. The purpose of the present paper is to shed light on the question of how the fact that the partners in a SA are competitors affects the SA's chances of survival and its longevity.Strategic alliances; value creation;
HERA has been closed, LHC is being opened: near past and near future of particle physics
A general account of the experimental results of the recently closed DESY-HERA accelerator and a presentation of the physics expected to be revealed by the LHC-CERN accelerator, beginning to deliver data in less than one year, is provided. An analysis of the impact of this information on the theoretical developments is included.
Medium Effects in DIS from Polarized Nuclear Targets
The behavior of the nucleon structure functions in lepton nuclei deep
inelastic scattering, both polarized and unpolarized, due to nuclear structure
effects is reanalyzed. The study is performed in two schemes: an x-rescaling
approach, and one in which there is an increase of sea quark components in the
in medium nucleon, related to the low energy N-N interaction. In view of a
recent interesting experimental proposal to study the behavior of the proton
spin structure functions in nuclei we proceed to compare these approaches in an
effort to enlighten the possible phenomenological interest of such difficult
experiment.Comment: 11 pages and 5 figure
