    Multifactorial Heath-Jarrow-Morton model using principal component analysis

    In this study, we propose an implementation of the multifactor Heath-Jarrow-Morton (HJM) interest rate model using an approach that integrates principal component analysis (PCA) and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) techniques. By integrating PCA and MCS with the multifactor HJM model, we successfully capture the principal factors driving the evolution of short-term interest rates in the US market. Additionally, we provide a framework for deriving spot interest rates through parameter calibration and forward rate estimation. For this, we use daily data from the US yield curve from June 2017 to December 2019. The integration of PCA, MCS with multifactor HJM model in this study represents a robust and precise approach to characterizing interest rate dynamics and compared to previous approaches, this method provided greater accuracy and improved understanding of the factors influencing US Treasury Yield interest rates

    Trust level concept is a topic that has opened a knowledge area about the profile evaluation and the people participation in Social Networks. These have presented a high knowledge profit, but at the same time it is necessary to analyze a group of variables to determine the trust participants' degree. In addition, this is a topic that from some years ago has been presenting a big expectation to settle some alternatives to generate confidence in an activer community on internet. To establish these parameters it is important to define a model to abstract some variables that are involved in this process. For this, it is relevant to take into account the semantic languages as one of the alternatives that allow these kinds of activities. The purpose of this article is to analyze the Trust Levels definition in the contents that are shared on Open Source Virtual learning Platforms through the use of a model of representation of semantic languages. The last ones allow determining the trust in the use of learning objects that are shared in this kind of platforms

    Is the Hyporheic Zone Relevant beyond the Scientific Community?

    Rivers are important ecosystems under continuous anthropogenic stresses. The hyporheic zone is a ubiquitous, reactive interface between the main channel and its surrounding sediments along the river network. We elaborate on the main physical, biological, and biogeochemical drivers and processes within the hyporheic zone that have been studied by multiple scientific disciplines for almost half a century. These previous efforts have shown that the hyporheic zone is a modulator for most metabolic stream processes and serves as a refuge and habitat for a diverse range of aquatic organisms. It also exerts a major control on river water quality by increasing the contact time with reactive environments, which in turn results in retention and transformation of nutrients, trace organic compounds, fine suspended particles, and microplastics, among others. The paper showcases the critical importance of hyporheic zones, both from a scientific and an applied perspective, and their role in ecosystem services to answer the question of the manuscript title. It identifies major research gaps in our understanding of hyporheic processes. In conclusion, we highlight the potential of hyporheic restoration to efficiently manage and reactivate ecosystem functions and services in river corridors. View Full-Tex

    An empirical examination of the relation between attention and motivation in computer-based education: a modeling approach

    Attention is considered a pre-requisite to achieve greater motivation in the classroom. However, empirical evidence of this relationship in educational setting is scarce since the measurement of attention requires specialized equipment such as clinical electroencephalograms (EEG) or fMR1. With the advent of portable, consumer-oriented EEG it is now possible to estimate levels of attention and shed light onto this relationship in the context of a computer-based educational setting. To that end, students (N=40) interacted for an average of 9.48 minutes (SD = .0018) with an assessment exercise in a virtual world. Participants' attention levels were monitored via a portable EEG and incorporated into an attention model capable of deciding on strategies to correct low levels of attention. The participants' motivation was assessed using a self-reported motivation questionnaire at pre-test and post-test times. The results indicated that students with higher self-reported motivation and self-reported attention answered significantly more correct answers. However, no direct evidence was found of a relation between EEG readings and self-reported attention or self-reported motivation. This suggests student's own perceptions of motivation and attention influence performance. Future work consists of defining new models of attention considering self-perceived attention and motivation as baseline as well as improving the model of attention combining EEG reading with an indication of the students' gaze

    Thermodynamics of Np(IV) complexes with gluconic acid under alkaline conditions: sorption studies

    The complexation of Np(IV) with gluconic acid (GLU) under alkaline conditions was investigated in the absence of Ca by carrying out aseries of sorption experiments. The decrease of Np(IV) sorption on the sorbing material at increasing concentrations of GLU was interpreted as the formation of Np(IV)-GLU aqueous complexes. The modelling of experimental data according to the Schubert method [1] confirmed the formation of acomplex with aNp : GLU ratio 1 : 1. The stoichiometry of the complex Np(OH)4GLU− was proposed based on the experimental observation that no proton exchange occurred during the course of the complexation reaction and that Np(OH)4(aq) was the predominant hydrolysis product in the absence of GLU. Alog *β1,4,10 = −2.92±0.30 for the formation reaction Np4+ + 4H2O + GLU−⇔Np(OH)4GLU− + 4H+ was calculated based on the conditional stability constants determined from sorption experiments and using the Np(IV) thermodynamic data selected in the NEA reviews [2]. Linear free energy relationships (LFER) confirmed that the stoichiometry and stability of the Np(IV)-GLU complex characterized in this work are consistent with data available for Th(IV)-, U(IV)- and Pu(IV)-GLU complexe

    Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) has moved rapidly in parallel with our understanding of the pathophysiological basis of the disease. In the eighties, the demonstration of the pivotal role of coronary thrombosis in the etiology of a ACS led to administration of aspirin and unfractionated heparin. In recent years, new medical and invasive therapies have been developed: anti-platelets (thienopyridines and glycoprotein Ilb/IlIa inhibitors), antithrombins (low molecularweight heparins) and most recently, factor Xa inhibitors (pentasaccharides). As new treatments are rapidly added, clinicians are constantly challenged to incorporate new information and guidelines into their practices in a timely fashion

    Deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) is a common condition that can lead to complications such as postphlebitic syndrome, pulmonary embolism and death. Currently, an algorithm strategy combining pretest probability, D-dimer testing and compression ultrasonography imaging allows for safe and convenient estimation of suspected lower-limb thrombosis. The mainstay of treatment is anticoagulation therapy. The use of low-molecular-weight heparin or pentasaccharide (fondaparinux) allows for outpatient management of most patients with DVT. The duration of anticoagulation depends on whether the primary event was idiopathic or secondary to a transient risk factor. Interventions such as thrombolysis and placement of inferior vena cava filter are reserved for special situations
