Background: Leptin and tumor necrosis factor (TNFα) are involved in weight regulation1. Elevated lipids are frequently encountered in obese people which are helpful in the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in the coronary arteries. This study helps us to know whether weight neutral antidepressant therapy can be therapeutic option in those with obesity associated with depression. Methods: It is a Longitudinal study of sample size 72 where Patients with obesity attending to JSS hospital who are found to be depressive in both inpatients and out patients fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Our study showed mean difference value of weight, BMI and waist circumference, S. leptin, S.TNF-α, S. total cholesterol, S. LDL-C, S. VLDL-C, triglycerides of obese patients treated with lifestyle modifications, psychotherapy and weight neutral antidepressants at baseline and 3rd month was significantly decreased when compared to obese patients treated with lifestyle modifications, psychotherapy alone at baseline and 3rd month is 3.5kgs, 1.2kg/m2, 0.89cm, 9.53pg/ml, 10.86pg/ml, 22.34mg/dl, 17.94mg/dl, 4.42mg/dl, 21.78mg/dl and 1.2kgs, 0.32kg/m2, 0.02cm, 5.22pg/ml, 7.86pg/ml, 11.72mg/dl, 15.37mg/dl, 1.98mg/dl, 9.54mg/dl respectively (p=0.0001).Conclusions: Our study demonstrated a significant weight loss, and significant decrease in S. Leptin, S. TNF- α, TC, LDL-C, VLDL-C, triglycerides, when obese patients treated with lifestyle modifications, psychotherapy and weight neutral antidepressant (Desvenlafaxine)

Free radical 5-exo-dig cyclization as the key step in the synthesis of bis-butyrolactone natural products: experimental and theoretical studies

    Get PDF
Radical cyclization reactions were performed by 5-exo-dig mode to yield cis-fused bicyclic systems, leading to the synthesis of bis-butyrolactone class of natural products. The study was aimed at understanding the impact of alkyl side chains of furanoside ring systems in L-ara configuration on the radical cyclization. It was amply demonstrated by experimental studies that the increase in the length of the alkyl side chain has an effect on the cyclization: while efficient cyclization reactions could be realized with methyl and ethyl side chains, the yields were significantly reduced in the case of n-pentyl side chain. Theoretical studies using DFT and (RO)MP2 methods were carried out to analyze the influence of the substitution pattern on the cyclization barriers

Cholinium-based ionic liquids with pharmaceutically active anions

Novel ionic liquids (ILs) containing cholinium as a benign cation combined with anions based on five active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), namely, nalidixic acid, niflumic acid, 4-amino-salicylic acid, pyrazinoic acid and picolinic acid, were prepared via a simple and sustainable two-step anion exchange reaction. The solubility of the prepared pharmaceutically active ILs (API-ILs) in both water and simulated biological fluids at 25 degrees C and 37 degrees C, as well as the solubility of the parent APIs, were measured. Further, in vitro cytotoxicity levels for both cholinium-based API-ILs and parent APIs were established using two different human cells lines, namely Caco-2 colon carcinoma cells and HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Herein, the dual nature of ILs is exploited by combining the cheap, available and essential nutrient cholinium cation with pharmaceutically active anions, upgrading the chemical, physical and biopharmaceutical properties, particularly melting point, aqueous solubility and the potential to penetrate cell membranes of the parent APIs, without impair their cytotoxicity response which prompt opportunities for creating further advances in pharmaceutical challenges

Stereo selective synthesis of C3–C12 fragment of iriomoteolide-1a

    No full text
A convergent and flexible synthetic route for the synthesis of C3–C12 fragment of iriomoteolide-1a is described. The key steps are: Mannich reaction, Keck asymmetric allylation, Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation and cross-metathesis protocol

Studies Toward the Stereoselective Synthesis of C13 to C21 Fragment of the Brasilinolides Family of Immunosuppressive Macrolides

The work describes our attempts to synthesize the C13 to C21 fragment of brasilinolides, a 32-membered macrolide class of molecule. The C13 to C21 segment encompasses six asymmetric centers and a pyran ketal moiety. The synthesis starts from L-malic acid, and the salient features of our asymmetric synthesis are opening of epoxide, assymmetric dihydroxylation for the creation of vic-diol, and Barbier allylation.
</div

Stereoselective total synthesis of sporiolide B and attempted synthesis of sporiolide A

A simple and efficient stereoselective total synthesis of sporiolide B and attempted synthesis of sporiolide A, from epichlorohydrin, using asymmetric synthetic approach is reported. The key reactions involved are Sharpless epoxidation, Jacobsen reaction, syn-allylation, Yamaguchi esterification, and Grubbs ring-closing metatheses reaction to result in the macrocyclic ring system.</p
