En el presente documento se exponen las estrategias implementadas para las clases virtuales desarrolladas durante la pandemia de COVID-19 en la Comisión B de Física 1 (primeros semestres del 2020 y del 2021) y las dificultades con las que nos fuimos encontrando. Water-compatible synthesis of 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-dioxanes

A water-compatible method for the diastereoselective synthesis of 2-trifluormethyl-1,3-dioxanes is described. The reaction proceeds under mild reaction conditions using simple inorganic bases; it has a very good substrate scope and can be performed with different Michael acceptors. Additionally, the reaction products can be further functionalized, showing an excellent perspective for future applications

Cone-Beam Computed Tomography and Radiographs in Dentistry: Aspects Related to Radiation Dose

Introduction. The aim of this study was to discuss the radiation doses associated with plain radiographs, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), and conventional computed tomography (CT) in dentistry, with a special focus on orthodontics. Methods. A systematic search for articles was realized by MEDLINE from 1997–March 2011. Results. Twenty-seven articles met the established criteria. The data of these papers were grouped in a table and discussed. Conclusions. Increases in kV, mA, exposure time, and field of view (FOV) increase the radiation dose. The dose for CT is greater than other modalities. When the full-mouth series (FMX) is performed with round collimation, the orthodontic radiographs transmit higher dose than most of the large FOV CBCT, but it can be reduced if used rectangular collimation, showing lower effective dose than large FOV CBCT. Despite the image quality, the CBCT does not replace the FMX. In addition to the radiation dose, image quality and diagnostic needs should be strongly taken into account

Hepatoprotective Effect of Merlot Grape Pomace Extract Against Acetaminophen Induced Damage in Mouse

This study investigated the benefits of Merlot grape pomace extract EBUM in experimental acetaminophen-induced intoxication Swiss mice received the respective treatments for 7 days Control saline Silymarin 100 mg Kg EBUM 100 mg Kg and 500 mg Kg On the seventh day the acetaminophen control Silymarin and EBUM received a single dose of acetaminophen 500 mg kg After 24 hours the mice were sacrificed the blood and liver were collected for analysis of serum transaminases ALT and AST bilirubin hepatic markers of oxidative stress and histopathological analysis EBUM was able to prevent acetaminophen-induced hepatic necrosis with a significant reduction p 0 0001 in ALT and AST bilirubin as well as a significant increase in hepatic GSH and CAT levels The histological data are consistent with the transaminase results showing less liver damage in the treated groups when compared to the acetaminophen group The results allow us to infer that EBUM has a hepatoprotective effect against intoxication caused by acetaminophen in animal model proving to be a therapeutic alternative in preventing drug-induced liver damag

Assessment of different plasticizer – polyhydroxyalkanoate mixtures to obtain biodegradable polymeric films

The elaboration of films from biodegradable polymer polyhydroxybutyrate was studied with 4 main plasticizers at variable concentrations: polyethyleneglycol, lauric acid, glycerol and epoxidized soy bean oil. An evaluation of the state of the art in the properties of commercial PHB (polyhydroxybutyrate) and necessary additives was elaborated in order to establish the experimental design to develop a polymeric film. Also, the qualitative evaluation of overall brittleness showed a variability due the nature and concentration of plasticizer. The influence of plasticizers on polymeric films was evaluated with gas chromatography (GC/MS) and Infrared Spectroscopy. The measurements were made on samples from different stages of the process in order to evaluate PHA (polyhydrixyalkanoate) purity. Measurements from the gas chromatography studies show the purity of the inicial fermentation broth (59.87%) , after the extraction with SDS and sodium hypochlorite (65%) and in mixtures with PEG (58.15%). ABSTRACT: CPC or Clinicopathological Conference has been a traditional academic activity of the departments of Pathology and Internal Medicine at the Medical Faculty, University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia). In it, an interesting case in which necropsy was done is presented by a specialist (internist, surgeon, etc.). Then a pathologist explains the most relevant histopathological findings, in order to clarify the cause of death.
