    Sistemática da vespa parasitoide Acrotaphus Townes (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae) e taxonomia dos gêneros afins

    The Polysphincta genus-group is a clade within the tribe Ephialtini (Ichneumonidae, Pimplinae) characterized by parasitoid wasps that utilize adult and sub-adult spiders as host. The most recent phylogeny of the group, using morphological data, divided the group into seven clades, the clade F consisting of ‘Polysphincta’ + (Ticapimpla + (Hymenoepimecis + Acrotaphus)), being Polysphincta paraphiletic and Ticapimpla, Hymenoepimecis and Acrotaphus monophyletic. This study aimed to study the taxonomy of genera of clade F in order to organized and contribute to future studies of neotropical Pimplinae. For this the thesis was divided in five parts: 1) the genus Acrotaphus Townes was reviewed. Sixteen new species were described (A. amajari sp. n., A. amazonicus sp. n., A. bodoquenaensis sp. n., A. cuzconus sp. n., A. dolichopus sp. n., A. homeofranklini sp. n., A. jackiechani sp. n., A. kourou sp. n., A. micrus sp. n., A. monotaenius sp. n., A. nambilloensis sp. n., A. pseudoamazonicus sp. n., A. pseudomexicanus sp. n., A. sobczaki sp. n., A. venezuelanus sp. n. and A. zampieronae sp. n.). In addition, A. mexicanus (Cameron) was redescribed, new characters were added, such as the description of the male’s genitalia for the first time. Also, an identification key, diagnoses and digital images for all species of the genus were provided. 2) A cladistic analysis of genus Acrotaphus Townes was performed using 46 morphological characteres and 35 terminal taxa (nine outgroup and 26 ingroup). Acrotaphus was corroborated as monophyletic, having your sister group the genus Hymenoepimecis Viereck (Zaglyptus + (Polysphincta + (Ticapimpla + (Hymenoepimecis + Acrotaphus)))). Besides, the internal topology of the genus was here first proposed, resulting in eight clades, with the largest number of species in its terminal branches in the clades G and H. In addition, characters from the male genital capsule were added and tested for the first time. 3) Polysphincta dizardi Gauld species-group was reviewed. Six new species were described: P. cosnipata sp. n., P. inca sp. n., P. macroepomia sp. n., P. organensis sp. n., P. pichincha sp. n. and P. teresa sp. n.. Also, diagnosis, taxonomic key and digital images for all species were provided. 4) A taxonomic study of genus Hymenoepimecis Viereck from Ecuador, French Guiana, Nicaragua and Peru was realized. Seven new species were described: H. andina sp. n., H. castilloi sp. n., H. dolichocarinata sp. n., H. ecuatoriana sp. n., H. longilobus sp. n., H. pucallpina sp. n. and H. rafaeli sp. n.. Besides, new geographical records, digital images and an identification key for all species of genus were provided. 5) A taxonomic study of genus Ticapimpla Gauld was realized. The males T. carinata Palacio et al. and T. matamatae Palacio et al. were associated and described, the genus was recorded for the first time to French Guiana, the species T. amazonica Palacio et al., T. carinata, T. matamatae and T. soinii Palacio et al. were recorded for the first time to Brazil. A filogenia mais recente do grupo, utilizando dados morfológicos, havia dividido o grupo em sete clados, sendo o clado F composto pelos gêneros ‘Polysphincta’ + (Ticapimpla + (Hymenoepimecis + Acrotaphus)), ou seja, Polysphincta parafilético e Ticapimpla, Hymenoepimecis e Acrotaphus monofiléticos. O objetivo aqui foi estudar a taxonomia dos gêneros do clado F a fim de organizar e contribuir com estudos futuros dos Pimplinae neotropicais. Para isso, a tese foi dividida em cinco partes: 1) A revisão taxonômica do gênero Acrotaphus Townes. Foram descritas 16 novas espécies (A. amajari sp. n., A. amazonicus sp. n., A. bodoquenaensis sp. n., A. cuzconus sp. n., A. dolichopus sp. n., A. homeofranklini sp. n., A. jackiechani sp. n., A. kourou sp. n., A. micrus sp. n., A. monotaenius sp. n., A. nambilloensis sp. n., A. pseudoamazonicus sp. n., A. pseudomexicanus sp. n., A. sobczaki sp. n., A. venezuelanus sp. n. e A. zampieronae sp. n.). Em adição, A. mexicanus (Cameron) foi redescrita, novos caracteres foram adicionados, no qual foi realizado a descrição da genitália do macho pela primeira vez. Além disso, foi providenciado uma chave de identificação, diagnoses e imagens digitais para todas as espécies do gênero. 2) Uma análise cladística do gênero Acrotaphus Townes foi realizada usando 46 caracteres morfológicos e 35 táxons terminais (nove no grupo externo e 26 no grupo interno). Acrotaphus foi corroborado como monofilético (Zaglyptus + (Polysphincta + (Ticapimpla + (Hymenoepimecis + Acrotaphus)))), tendo como grupo irmão o gênero Hymenoepimecis Viereck. Além disso, a topologia interna do gênero foi proposta pela primeira vez, resultando em oito clados, com o maior número de espécies em seus ramos terminais nos clados G e H. Em adição, foram adicionados e testados pela primeira vez caracteres da cápsula genital dos machos. 3) O grupo de espécies Polysphincta dizardi Gauld foi revisado. Seis espécies novas foram descritas: P. cosnipata sp. n., P. inca sp. n., P. macroepomia sp. n., P. organensis sp. n., P. pichincha sp. n. e P. teresa sp. n.. Em adição, foram providenciadas diagnoses, chave taxonômica e imagens digitais para todas as espécies. 4) Um estudo taxonômico do gênero Hymenoepimecis Viereck do Equador, Guiana Francesa, Nicarágua e Peru foi realizado. Sete novas espécies foram descritas: H. andina sp. n., H. castilloi sp. n., H. dolichocarinata sp. n., H. ecuatoriana sp. n., H. longilobus sp. n., H. pucallpina sp. n. e H. rafaeli sp. n.. Em adição, novos registros geográficos, imagens digitais e uma chave de identificação para todas as espécies do gênero foram providenciadas. 5) O estudo taxonômico do gênero Ticapimpla Gauld foi realizado. Os machos de T. carinata e T. matamatae foram descritos e registrados pela primeira vez para a Guiana Francesa, como também foram registradas, pela primeira vez, as espécies T. amazonica, T. carinata, T. matamatae e T. soinii para o Brasil.     Hymenoepimecis Viereck, 1912 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae), is a genus of neotropical wasp ectoparasitoid koinobiont of orb-weaving spiders. Species of the genus occurring in the Brazilian Amazon were studied here. Three species were redescribed with the addition of new characters: H. bicolor (Brullé, 1846), H. heteropus (Kriechbaumer, 1890), H. neotropica (Brues & Richardson, 1913), of which the first and two have recognized their male and all have had magnified its geographical distribution. Furthermore, seven new species were described and illustrated with colored pictures and schematic drawings of the main diagnostic characters. Finally, with the aim of gathering information for all species studied, maps with their geographic records, diagnosis and remarks were included, beyond an identification key.Hymenoepimecis Viereck, 1912 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae), é um gênero neotropical de vespas ectoparasitoides cenobiontes de aranhas construtoras de teias. Foram estudadas aqui as espécies do gênero que ocorrem na Amazônia brasileira.     Pseudogaurax Malloch is a worldwide genus of Chloropidae with 33 species in the Neotropical region and 12 occurring in Brazil. The genus is well-known for the feeding habits of its larvae which attack egg masses and larvae of several arthropods, usually breeding in the egg sacs of spiders. In this study, we expanded the distribution of P. cingulatus to northern Brazil and recorded for the first time the species preying on Tetragnatha egg sacs.     New records of Ticapimpla Gauld, 1991 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae) from Brazil and French Guiana, with taxonomic notes

    Background We report the genus Ticapimpla Gauld, 1991 from French Guiana and the species Ticapimpla amazonica Palacio et al., T. carinata Palacio et al., T. matamatae Palacio et al. and T. soinii Palacio et al. from Brazilian Amazonia. The new discoveries suggest that the genus is widely distributed in Amazonian lowland rain forests. In addition, we diagnose and illustrate the males of T. carinata and T. matamatae for the first time. Short diagnoses and layer-photos for all the Amazonian species are provided. New information The genus Ticapimpla is reported for the first time from French Guiana and the species T. amazonica, T. carinata, T. matamatae and T. soinii from Brazilian Amazonia.     A new species of Horismenus Walker (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) from ootheca of Liturgusa Saussure (Mantodea, Liturgusidae) from Central Amazonas, Brazil

    A new species of Horismenus Walker, H. liturgusae Hansson & Schoeninger (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), is described from material reared from an ootheca of an unidentified mantid species of genus Liturgusa Saussure (Mantodea: Liturgusidae). The new species is compared to H. argus Hansson, a species it is very similar to. Horismenus liturgusae sp. n. is gregarious and 49 adult specimens developed in the ootheca. This is the first record of a Horismenus species parasitizing mantids, and the first record of a Horismenus species from an ootheca. Copyright Christer Hansson et al

    Hexapoda Yearbook (Arthropoda: Mandibulata: Pancrustacea) Brazil 2020: the first annual production survey of new Brazilian species

    This paper provided a list of all new Brazilian Hexapoda species described in 2020. Furthermore, based on the information extracted by this list, we tackled additional questions regarding the taxa, the specialists involved in the species descriptions as well as the journals in which those papers have been published. We recorded a total of 680 new Brazilian species of Hexapoda described in 2020, classified in 245 genera, 112 families and 18 orders. These 680 species were published in a total of 219 articles comprising 423 different authors residing in 27 countries. Only 30% of these authors are women, which demonstrates an inequality regarding sexes. In relation to the number of authors by species, the majority of the new species had two authors and the maximum of authors by species was five. We also found inequalities in the production of described species regarding the regions of Brazil, with Southeast and South leading. The top 10 institutions regarding productions of new species have four in the Southeast, two at South and with one ate North Region being the outlier of this pattern. Out of the total 219 published articles, Zootaxa dominated with 322 described species in 95 articles. The average impact factor was of 1.4 with only seven articles being published in Impact Factors above 3, indicating a hardship on publishing taxonomic articles in high-impact journals.The highlight of this paper is that it is unprecedent, as no annual record of Hexapoda species described was ever made in previous years to Brazil.Fil: Silva Neto, Alberto Moreira.     The germline mutational landscape of BRCA1 and BRCA2 in Brazil

    The detection of germline mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 is essential to the formulation of clinical management strategies, and in Brazil, there is limited access to these services, mainly due to the costs/availability of genetic testing. Aiming at the identification of recurrent mutations that could be included in a low-cost mutation panel, used as a first screening approach, we compiled the testing reports of 649 probands with pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants referred to 28 public and private health care centers distributed across 11 Brazilian States. Overall, 126 and 103 distinct mutations were identified in BRCA1 and BRCA2, respectively. Twenty-six novel variants were reported from both genes, and BRCA2 showed higher mutational heterogeneity. Some recurrent mutations were reported exclusively in certain geographic regions, suggesting a founder effect. Our findings confirm that there is significant molecular heterogeneity in these genes among Brazilian carriers, while also suggesting that this heterogeneity precludes the use of screening protocols that include recurrent mutation testing only. This is the first study to show that profiles of recurrent mutations may be unique to different Brazilian regions.
