DEMAND FOR FOOD QUANTITY AND QUALITY IN CHINA
As their incomes rise, Chinese consumers are changing their diets and demanding greater quality, convenience, and safety in food. Food expenditures grow faster than quantities purchased as income rises, suggesting that consumers with higher incomes purchase more expensive foods. The top-earning Chinese households appear to have reached a point where the income elasticity of demand for quantity of most foods is near zero. Chinaâs food market is becoming segmented. The demand for quality by high-income households has fueled recent growth in modern food retail and sales of premium-priced food and beverage products. The Use of Online Panel Data in Management Research: A Review and Recommendations
Management scholars have long depended on convenience samples to conduct research involving human participants. However, the past decade has seen an emergence of a new convenience sample: online panels and online panel participants. The data these participants provideâonline panel data (OPD)âhas been embraced by many management scholars owing to the numerous benefits it provides over âtraditionalâ convenience samples. Despite those advantages, OPD has not been warmly received by all. Currently, there is a divide in the field over the appropriateness of OPD in management scholarship. Our review takes aim at the divide with the goal of providing a common understanding of OPD and its utility and providing recommendations regarding when and how to use OPD and how and where to publish it. To accomplish these goals, we inventoried and reviewed OPD use across 13 management journals spanning 2006 to 2017. Our search resulted in 804 OPD-based studies across 439 articles. Notably, our search also identified 26 online panel platforms (âbrokersâ) used to connect researchers with online panel participants. Importantly, we offer specific guidance to authors, reviewers, and editors, having implications for both micro and macro management scholars
meson broadening and dilepton production in heavy ion collisions
The modification of the width of the rho meson due to in-medium decays and
collisions is evaluated. In high temperature and/or high density hadronic
matter, the collision width is much larger than the one-loop decay width. The
large width of the meson in matter seems to be consistent with some

Synchrotron x-ray study of lattice vibrations in CdCr2O4
Using inelastic x-ray scattering we have investigated lattice vibrations in a
geometric frustrated system CdCr2O4 that upon cooling undergoes a spin-Peierls
phase transition at TN = 7.8 K from a cubic and paramagnetic to a tetragonal
and Neel state. Phonon modes measured around Brillouin zone boundaries show
energy shifts when the transition occurs. Our analysis shows that the shifting
can be understood as the ordinary effects of the lowering of the crystal
symmetry
A numerical investigation of a piezoelectric surface acoustic wave interaction with a one-dimensional channel
We investigate the propagation of a piezoelectric surface acoustic wave (SAW)
across a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure surface, on which there is
fixed a metallic split-gate. Our method is based on a finite element
formulation of the underlying equations of motion, and is performed in
three-dimensions fully incorporating the geometry and material composition of
the substrate and gates. We demonstrate attenuation of the SAW amplitude as a
result of the presence of both mechanical and electrical gates on the surface.
We show that the incorporation of a simple model for the screening by the
two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), results in a total electric potential
modulation that suggests a mechanism for the capture and release of electrons
by the SAW. Our simulations suggest the absence of any significant turbulence
in the SAW motion which could hamper the operation of SAW based quantum devices
of a more complex geometry.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
J/Psi Propagation in Hadronic Matter
We study J/ propagation in hot hadronic matter using a four-flavor
chiral Lagrangian to model the dynamics and using QCD sum rules to model the
finite size effects manifested in vertex interactions through form factors.
Charmonium breakup due to scattering with light mesons is the primary
impediment to continued propagation. Breakup rates introduce nontrivial

Laser surface colouring of titanium for contemporary jewellery
This paper describes work which emerged through a need to understand more about the potential of laser surface engineering for use in the creative industries. The method of creation of contemporary jewellery pieces and the resultant 'Ocular' jewellery series are described from the creative point of view. The work demonstrates how laser controlled oxide growth on Tiâ6Alâ4V alloy under ambient conditions can be used as an artistic tool by producing precisely defined colours. Use of the method to produce regular areas of even colour and to reproduce freehand drawings on a titanium alloy surface is described. Analysis highlights interference as the main colouring mechanism and suggests a graded surface layer, progressing from an outer layer of TiO2 to lower layers rich in TiO and Ti2O. The model of research by practice presented in this paper offers a contribution to the current debate on partnerships between art and science and engineering
Rate of photon production from hot hadronic matter
Thermal photon emission rates from hot hadronic matter are studied to order
, where indicates a strong-interaction coupling constant.
Radiative decay of mesons, Compton and annihilation processes for hadrons, and
bremsstrahlung reactions are all considered. Compared to the standard rates
from the literature, one finds two orders of magnitude increase for low photon
energies stemming mainly from bremsstrahlung and then a modest increase (factor
of 2) for intermediate and high energy photons owing to radiative decays for a
variety of mesons and from other reactions involving strangeness. These results
could have important consequences for electromagnetic radiation studies at
