Precision Muon Tracking Detectors for High-Energy Hadron Colliders
Small-diameter muon drift tube (sMDT) chambers with 15 mm tube diameter are a
cost-effective technology for high-precision muon tracking over large areas at
high background rates as expected at future high-energy hadron colliders
including HL-LHC. The chamber design and construction procedures have been
optimized for mass production and provide sense wire positioning accuracy of
better than 10 ?m. The rate capability of the sMDT chambers has been
extensively tested at the CERN Gamma Irradiation Facility. It exceeds the one
of the ATLAS muon drift tube (MDT) chambers, which are operated at
unprecedentedly high background rates of neutrons and gamma-rays, by an order
of magnitude, which is sufficient for almost the whole muon detector acceptance
at FCC-hh at maximum luminosity. sMDT operational and construction experience
exists from ATLAS muon spectrometer upgrades which are in progress or under
preparation for LHC Phase 1 and 2
Rompiendo la monotonía del día a día en la Málaga moderna
An extraordinary event alters the daily occupation of a city as that of Malaga. The witnesses of a passional crime report meticulously the incidents of the same one. Confirming the different testimonies there are traced the mobiles, the subjects and the circumstances that intervene directly or indirectly in this event, highlighting other collateral aspects as the collective mentality of the persons from Malaga before the death. The feminine look uses as conductive thread to compile information about a criminal act that has not come out in the annals of the city.
During last decades of XVII Century, serious problems hung over the Spanish Monarchy.
Lack of sucession of Carlos II, last monarch from the House of Austria, impelled the great
european powers to interfere in spanish policy. At the same time, the Sultan of Morocco, Muley
Ismail, started an attack against the spanish fortresses to remove spanish presence in North
Africa. Due to these hazards, a military deployment (alarde) was convoked in the year 1691 at
Ronda, in order to find out the availability of urban militia
Performance of a First-Level Muon Trigger with High Momentum Resolution Based on the ATLAS MDT Chambers for HL-LHC
Highly selective first-level triggers are essential to exploit the full
physics potential of the ATLAS experiment at High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The
concept for a new muon trigger stage using the precision monitored drift tube
(MDT) chambers to significantly improve the selectivity of the first-level muon
trigger is presented. It is based on fast track reconstruction in all three
layers of the existing MDT chambers, made possible by an extension of the
first-level trigger latency to six microseconds and a new MDT read-out
electronics required for the higher overall trigger rates at the HL-LHC. Data
from -collisions at is used to study the
minimal muon transverse momentum resolution that can be obtained using the MDT
precision chambers, and to estimate the resolution and efficiency of the
MDT-based trigger. A resolution of better than is found in all sectors
under study. With this resolution, a first-level trigger with a threshold of
becomes fully efficient for muons with a transverse momentum
above in the barrel, and above in the
end-cap region.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figures; conference proceedings for IEEE NSS & MIC

Ample Provision: A Preliminary Study Relating Budget Composition and High School Graduation Rates in Select Washington State Public School Districts
How to allocate scarce resources for an optimal outcome is of keen interest to those who set the budgets in public education. Simply throwing money at schools is not enough; it is important that money is spent where it will do the most good. This study considers Washington State public school districts and examines how the share of per-student expenditures in seven budget categories relates to on-time high school graduation rates. It is an investigative study, exploring whether there is enough evidence to merit further, more in-depth research. Using budget and graduation information from academic years 1997-98 through 2016-17 for a representative sample of 63 districts, I estimated several dynamic panel models. From these I identified which budget categories most heavily impact graduation rates, and over what time horizon the impacts are apparent. I found no significant correlation and concluded that this would not be a fruitful avenue for further research

Our Nation is at risk. Our once unchallenged preeminence in commerce, industry, science, and technological innovation is being overtaken by competitors throughout the world (The National Commission on Excellence in Education, 1983, p. 5). 3 These were the opening words published in a 1983 letter to the people of the United States entitled, A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Educational Reform. In 1981, the National Commission on Excellence in Education was created under the direction of the Secretary of Education, T. H. Bell. Its purpose was to investigate issues in America\u27s education, define problems and identify solutions (The National Commission on Excellence in Education, 1983). After examining the central issues, members of the Commission compiled a report and presented it to Secretary Bell and the American people
Exergy Analysis as a Developed Concept of Energy Efficiency Optimized Processes: The Case of Thermal Spray Processes
AbstractGiven the global economic growth and the rapid manufacturing development, the energy and resource efficiency will become an increasingly competitive factor and scope for the companies in the road of sustainability. Among energy efficiency optimization approaches, thermodynamics methodologies contribute toward the improvement of energy efficiency in manufacturing processes. Besides energy balance, exergy has been recently considered as a practical thermodynamics method for system's energy evaluation. From the exergy analysis, merging both exergy efficiency and exergy destruction highlights the energy inefficiencies within a system and provides useful information to the managers and decision makers for prioritizing the improvement potentials. Exergy analysis is generally an applicable method for the comparison of the alternative processes for a given purpose. In this study, thermal spray process techniques (APS, SPS, HVOF, HVSFS) as energy intensive manufacturing processes are analyzed and compared on the basis of exergy and energy analysis methods. For a comprehensive evaluation, energy efficiency as well as exergy efficiency and exergy destruction are proposed as the indicators. This work concludes with a discussion of the advantages of the exergy analysis method in comparison with a conventional energy efficiency evaluation by validation of the results for the case of thermal spray processes
