Magnetic quantum coherence effect in Ni4 molecular transistors

We consider the electron transport in single molecule magnet transistors in the presence of Zeeman spin splitting and magnetic quantum coherence (MQC). The Zeeman interaction is extended along the leads, thereby producing gaps in the energy spectrum which allow electron transport with spin polarized along a certain direction. The MQC induces an effective coupling between localized spin states and continuum spin states in the single molecule magnet and leads, respectively. We investigate the conductance at zero temperature as a function of the applied bias and magnetic field, and show that the MQC is responsible for the appearence of resonances. Accordingly, we name them MQC resonances.Comment: 5 pages, Revtex

To determine the factors involved in slow progression to aids, a transverse study was conducted for the evaluation of the epidemiological data of individuals infected with type 1 human immunodeficiency virus seen at the University Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of RibeirĂŁo Preto-USP. Patients were choosed in conformity some judgment, establish two populations: population 1, consisting of slow progressors (P1), had been carrying HIV antibodies for more than 8 years, with the occurrence of less than 2 opportunistic diseases in the last year, and population 2 (P2), consisting of rapid progressors, had a diagnosis of HIV infection and overt disease detected less than 2 years before and more than 2 opportunistic diseases diagnosed during the last year. All patients responded to a questionnaire concerning demographic data, profession, occurrence of other sexually transmissible diseases, form of contagion, date of diagnosis, and habits. The study was conducted from March 1998 to October 1999. We obtain in the P1: 12 men and 4 women, mean age 30.7 years, predominant form of contagion: blood route, time of disease progression 10.5 years; P2 12 men and 4 women; mean age 34,8 years, predominant form of contagion: sexual, time of disease progression 1.5 years. Tabagisme was the principal vice in about populations. When asked about motivation yours good health, the subjects of P1 answered to be relationed the faith and medications use. The patients of the P2 did not answer about yours health state. Whatever the sexual custom, 9 patients of the P1 had sexual relations, five without regular use of condom. In the P2 only um patient used condom. Two patients of the P1 and one of P2 declared to have STD, syphilis and Human Papiloma Virus (HPV). Because there are reduces number of patients it’s impossible to make asociation between the variables studies and mesures of the disease progression. The dates about habits don’t contribute for the disease development. The study offers an epidemiological profile of these patient populations

Charge density wave in layered La1-xCexSb2

The layered rare-earth diantimonides RSb2 are anisotropic metals with generally low electronic densities whose properties can be modified by substituting the rare earth. LaSb2 is a nonmagnetic metal with a low residual resistivity presenting a low-temperature magnetoresistance that does not saturate with the magnetic field. It has been proposed that the latter can be associated to a charge density wave (CDW), but no CDW has yet been found. Here we find a kink in the resistivity above room temperature in LaSb2 (at 355 K) and show that the kink becomes much more pronounced with substitution of La by Ce along the La1−xCexSb2 series. We find signatures of a CDW in x-ray scattering, specific heat, and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments in particular for x ≈ 0.5. We observe a distortion of rare-earth–Sb bonds lying in-plane of the tetragonal crystal using x-ray scattering, an anomaly in the specific heat at the same temperature as the kink in resistivity and charge modulations in STM. We conclude that LaSb2 has a CDW which is stabilized in the La1−xCexSb2 series due to substitutional disorderThis work was supported by the Spanish MINECO (FIS2014-54498-R, MAT2011-27470-C02-02, and CSD-2009-00013), by the European Union (Graphene Flagship Contract No. CNECT-ICT-604391 and COST MP1201 action), and by the Comunidad de Madrid through programs Nanofrontmag-CM (S2013/MIT-2850) and MAD2D-CM (S2013/MIT-3007).We acknowledge MINECO and CSIC for financial support and for provision of synchrotron radiation facilities and would like to thank the SpLine BM25 staff for assistance in using the beamlin

Setting the scene and generating evidence for malaria elimination in Southern Mozambique

    Get PDF
Mozambique has historically been one of the countries with the highest malaria burden in the world. Starting in the 1960s, malaria control efforts were intensified in the southern region of the country, especially in Maputo city and Maputo province, to aid regional initiatives aimed to eliminate malaria in South Africa and eSwatini. Despite significant reductions in malaria prevalence, elimination was never achieved. Following the World Health Organization's renewed vision of a malaria-free-world, and considering the achievements from the past, the Mozambican National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) embarked on the development and implementation of a strategic plan to accelerate from malaria control to malaria elimination in southern Mozambique. An initial partnership, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation, led to the creation of the Mozambican Alliance Towards the Elimination of Malaria (MALTEM) and the Malaria Technical and Advisory Committee (MTAC) to promote national ownership and partner coordination to work towards the goal of malaria elimination in local and cross-border initiatives. Surveillance systems to generate epidemiological and entomological intelligence to inform the malaria control strategies were strengthened, and an impact and feasibility assessment of various interventions aimed to interrupt malaria transmission were conducted in Magude district (Maputo Province) through the "Magude Project". The primary aim of this project was to generate evidence to inform malaria elimination strategies for southern Mozambique. The goal of malaria elimination in areas of low transmission intensity is now included in the national malaria strategic plan for 2017-22 and the NMCP and its partners have started to work towards this goal while evidence continues to be generated to move the national elimination agenda forward

Measurement of prompt photon production in sNN 8.16 TeV p+Pb collisions with ATLAS

    Get PDF
The inclusive production rates of isolated, prompt photons in collisions at TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider using a dataset with an integrated luminosity of 165 nb−1 recorded in 2016. The cross-section and nuclear modification factor are measured as a function of photon transverse energy from 20 GeV to 550 GeV and in three nucleon–nucleon centre-of-mass pseudorapidity regions, , , and . The cross-section and values are compared with the results of a next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation, with and without nuclear parton distribution function modifications, and with expectations based on a model of the energy loss of partons prior to the hard scattering. The data disfavour a large amount of energy loss and provide new constraints on the parton densities in nuclei.Fil: Dova, Maria Teresa. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Electron and photon energy calibration with the ATLAS detector using 2015-2016 LHC proton-proton collision data

    Get PDF
This paper presents the electron and photon energy calibration obtained with the ATLAS detector using about 36 fb−1 of LHC proton-proton collision data recorded at √s=13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. The different calibration steps applied to the data and the optimization of the reconstruction of electron and photon energies are discussed. The absolute energy scale is set using a large sample of Z boson decays into electron-positron pairs. The systematic uncertainty in the energy scale calibration varies between 0.03% to 0.2% in most of the detector acceptance for electrons with transverse momentum close to 45 GeV . For electrons with transverse momentum of 10 GeV the typical uncertainty is 0.3% to 0.8% and it varies between 0.25% and 1% for photons with transverse momentum around 60 GeV . Validations of the energy calibration with J/ψ → e+e− decays and radiative Z boson decays are also presented.Fil: Hoya, JoaquĂn. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Measurement of the inclusive isolated-photon cross section in pp collisions at s√s = 13 TeV using 36 fb−1 of ATLAS data

    Get PDF
The differential cross section for isolated-photon production in pp collisions is measured at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. The differential cross section is presented as a function of the photon transverse energy in different regions of photon pseudorapidity. The differential cross section as a function of the absolute value of the photon pseudorapidity is also presented in different regions of photon transverse energy. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations from Jetphox and Sherpa as well as next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD calculations from Nnlojet are compared with the measurement, using several parameterisations of the proton parton distribution functions. The predictions provide a good description of the data within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties.Fil: Alonso, Francisco. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Search for high-mass dilepton resonances using 139 fb−1 of pp collision data collected at s√=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
A search for high-mass dielectron and dimuon resonances in the mass range of 250 GeV to 6 TeV is presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=13 TeV during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. A functional form is fitted to the dilepton invariant-mass distribution to model the contribution from background processes, and a generic signal shape is used to determine the significance of observed deviations from this background estimate. No significant deviation is observed and upper limits are placed at the 95% confidence level on the fiducial cross-section times branching ratio for various resonance width hypotheses. The derived limits are shown to be applicable to spin-0, spin-1 and spin-2 signal hypotheses. For a set of benchmark models, the limits are converted into lower limits on the resonance mass and reach 4.5 TeV for the E6-motivated Zâ€Čψ boson. Also presented are limits on Heavy Vector Triplet model couplings.Fil: Arduh, Francisco Anuar. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Combinations of single-top-quark production cross-section measurements and |fLVVtb| determinations at s√=7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS and CMS experiments

    Get PDF
This paper presents the combinations of single-top-quark production cross-section measurements by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, using data from LHC proton–proton collisions at √ s = 7 and 8 TeV corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.17 to 5.1 fb−1 at √ s = 7 TeV, and 12.2 to 20.3 fb−1 at √ s = 8 TeV. These combinations are performed per centre-of-mass energy and for each production mode: t-channel, tW, and s-channel. The combined t-channel cross-sections are 67.5 ± 5.7 pb and 87.7 ± 5.8 pb at √ s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. The combined tW cross-sections are 16.3 ± 4.1 pb and 23.1 ± 3.6 pb at √ s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. For the s-channel cross-section, the combination yields 4.9 ± 1.4 pb at √ s = 8 TeV. The square of the magnitude of the CKM matrix element Vtb multiplied by a form factor fLV is determined for each production mode and centre-of-mass energy, using the ratio of the measured cross-section to its theoretical prediction. It is assumed that the top-quark-related CKM matrix elements obey the relation |Vtd |, |Vts | |Vtb |. All the | fLVVtb | 2 determinations, extracted from individual ratios at √ s = 7 and 8 TeV, are combined, resulting in | fLVVtb | = 1.02 ± 0.04 (meas.) ± 0.02 (theo.). All combined measurements are consistent with their corresponding Standard Model predictions.Fil: Arduh, Francisco Anuar. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Combined measurements of Higgs boson production cross sections and branching fractions are presented. The combination is based on the analyses of the Higgs boson decay modes H-->γγ, ZZ∗, WW∗, ττ, bbÂŻ, ΌΌ, searches for decays into invisible final states, and on measurements of off-shell Higgs boson production. Up to 79.8 /fb of proton-proton collision data collected at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector are used. Results are presented for the gluon-gluon fusion and vector-boson fusion processes, and for associated production with vector bosons or top-quarks. The global signal strength is determined to be ÎŒ=1.11+0.09−0.08. The combined measurement yields an observed (expected) significance for the vector-boson fusion production process of 6.5sigmas (5.3sigmas). Measurements in kinematic regions defined within the simplified template cross section framework are also shown. The results are interpreted in terms of modifiers applied to the Standard Model couplings of the Higgs boson to other particles, and are used to set exclusion limits on parameters in two-Higgs-doublet models and in the simplified Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. No significant deviations from Standard Model predictions are observed.Fil: Dova, Maria Teresa. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas.
