We propose here a multidimensional generalisation of the notion of link introduced in our previous papers and we discuss some consequences for simplicial measures and sums of function algebras.Comment: 17 pages, no figures, no table

Singular value decomposition in parametrised tests of post-Newtonian theory

Various coefficients of the 3.5 post-Newtonian (PN) phasing formula of non-spinning compact binaries moving in circular orbits is fully characterized by the two component masses. If two of these coefficients are independently measured, the masses can be estimated. Future gravitational wave observations could measure many of the 8 independent PN coefficients calculated to date. These additional measurements can be used to test the PN predictions of the underlying theory of gravity. Since all of these parameters are functions of the two component masses, there is strong correlation between the parameters when treated independently. Using Singular Value Decomposition of the Fisher information matrix, we remove this correlations and obtain a new set of parameters which are linear combinations of the original phasing coefficients. We show that the new set of parameters can be estimated with significantly improved accuracies which has implications for the ongoing efforts to implement parametrised tests of PN theory in the data analysis pipelines.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, Accepted for publication in Classical and Quantum Gravity (Matches with the published version

The eigenspectra of Indian musical drums

In a family of drums used in the Indian subcontinent, the circular drum head is made of material of non-uniform density. Remarkably, and in contrast to a circular membrane of uniform density, the low eigenmodes of the non-uniform membrane are harmonic. In this work we model the drum head by a non-uniform membrane whose density varies smoothly between two prescribed values. Using a Fourier-Chebyshev spectral collocation method we obtain the eigenmodes and eigenvalues of the drum head. For a suitable choice of parameters, which we find by optimising a cost function, the eigenspectra obtained from our model are in excellent agreement with experimental values. Our model and the numerical method should find application in numerical sound synthesis

Studies on the extraction and characterization of thermostable a-amylase from pericarp of Borassus indica

    Get PDF
Thermostable a-amylase was extracted and characterized from the fruits (pericarp) of Borassus indica. Analysis on the influence of various physico-chemical parameters on the extracted enzyme revealed a Vmax of 0.793 and a Km of 0.022. The optimum temperature was found to be 370C at pH 4.5. The stability studies on enzyme activity envisaged that the enzyme is stable up to 800C and retained its activity over a wide range of pH (4.0 – 8.5). Significant enhancement in the enzyme activity was observed in the presence of metal ions like Manganese and Strontium and an insignificant decrement in the presence of Sodium ions.African Journal of Biotechnology Vol. 4 (3), pp. 289-291, 200

Climate change is affecting farming systems worldwide. It is expected that the impacts will be disproportionately felt by small scale farmers who are already amongst the most poor and vulnerable members of the society. NACA’s efforts to map farmers’ perceptions and attitude towards climate change impacts and adaptive capacities to address these impacts in four Asian countries including the shrimp culture practices in India (CIBA-NACSA/MPEDA-NACA project) through the ‘Aquaclimate’ project is highly admirable. I hope the project will provide farmers with strategies to maintain their resilience in the face of climate change
