    Un défi des gestionnaires du territoire : comment composer avec les différentes définitions des risques?

    Dans les pays en développement, où les territoires présentent de multiples facteurs de vulnérabilité et où l'exposition à des dangers divers et nombreux sont des phénomènes quotidiens, la mise en place de mesures visant à contrebalancer ces phénomènes devient un enjeu difficile à réaliser. Dans cette perspective, il s'agit d'étudier, à travers les pratiques des acteurs, quels sont les éléments qui permettent de définir les risques et les actions à entreprendre. Les acteurs doivent négocier ou même imposer la légitimité de leurs vulnérabilités dans un jeu de négociations, d'arbitrages et de conflits. Le cas d'étude à San Cristóbal, Guatemala, permet d'analyser les différentes solutions proposées sous l'angle des vulnérabilités en jeu. Nous montrons que la prise en compte des vulnérabilités influence la lecture de l'équation du risque des acteurs concernés et conditionne le champ des solutions possibles. Les résultats de cette recherche indiquent que le risque n'est pas univoque mais qu'il est le résultat d'un choix et des calculs faits par les acteurs. Pour cette raison, les mesures à entreprendre dépendent des compromis élaborés entre les acteurs

    Relationship of goat milk flow emission variables with milking routine, milking parameters, milking machine characteristics and goat physiology

    The aim of this paper was to study the relationship between milk flow emission variables recorded during milking of dairy goats with variables related to milking routine, goat physiology, milking parameters and milking machine characteristics, to determine the variables affecting milking performance and help the goat industry pinpoint farm and milking practices that improve milking performance. In total, 19 farms were visited once during the evening milking. Milking parameters (vacuum level (VL), pulsation ratio and pulsation rate, vacuum drop), milk emission flow variables (milking time, milk yield, maximum milk flow (MMF), average milk flow (AVMF), time until 500 g/min milk flow is established (TS500)), doe characteristics of 8 to 10 goats/farm (breed, days in milk and parity), milking practices (overmilking, overstripping, pre-lag time) and milking machine characteristics (line height, presence of claw) were recorded on every farm. The relationships between recorded variables and farm were analysed by a one-way ANOVA analysis. The relationships of milk yield, MMF, milking time and TS500 with goat physiology, milking routine, milking parameters and milking machine design were analysed using a linear mixed model, considering the farm as the random effect. Farm was significant (P<0.05) in all the studied variables. Milk emission flow variables were similar to those recommended in scientific studies. Milking parameters were adequate in most of the farms, being similar to those recommended in scientific studies. Few milking parameters and milking machine characteristics affected the tested variables: average vacuum level only showed tendency on MMF, and milk pipeline height on TS500. Milk yield (MY) was mainly affected by parity, as the interaction of days in milk with parity was also significant. Milking time was mainly affected by milk yield and breed. Also significant were parity, the interaction of days in milk with parity and overstripping, whereas overmilking showed a slight tendency. We concluded that most of the studied variables were mainly related to goat physiology characteristics, as the effects of milking parameters and milking machine characteristics were scarce

    The agrin gene codes for a family of basal lamina proteins that differ in function and distribution

    We isolated two cDNAs that encode isoforms of agrin, the basal lamina protein that mediates the motor neuron-induced aggregation of acetylcholine receptors on muscle fibers at the neuromuscular junction. Both proteins are the result of alternative splicing of the product of the agrin gene, but, unlike agrin, they are inactive in standard acetylcholine receptor aggregation assays. They lack one (agrin-related protein 1) or two (agrin-related protein 2) regions in agrin that are required for its activity. Expression studies provide evidence that both proteins are present in the nervous system and muscle and that, in muscle, myofibers and Schwann cells synthesize the agrin-related proteins while the axon terminals of motor neurons are the sole source of agrin

    Spin wave spectrum of the quantum ferromagnet on the pyrochlore lattice Lu2V2O7

    Neutron inelastic scattering has been used to probe the spin dynamics of the quantum (S=1/2) ferromagnet on the pyrochlore lattice Lu2V2O7. Well-defined spin waves are observed at all energies and wavevectors, allowing us to determine the parameters of the Hamiltonian of the system. The data are found to be in excellent overall agreement with a minimal model that includes a nearest- neighbour Heisenberg exchange J = 8:22(2) meV and a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) D =1:5(1) meV. The large DMI term revealed by our study is broadly consistent with the model developed by Onose et al. to explain the magnon Hall effect they observed in Lu2V2O7 [1], although our ratio of D=J = 0:18(1) is roughly half of their value and three times larger than calculated by ab initio methods [2].Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Pulmonary Histoplasmosis Mimicking Metastatic Lung Cancer: A Case Report.

    Histoplasmosis is a well-known endemic fungal infection but experience in non-endemic regions is often limited, which may lead to delayed diagnosis and extensive testing. The diagnosis can be especially challenging, typically when the disease first presents with pulmonary nodules accompanied by hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathy, suggesting a much more common malignant disease. In this situation, a greater FDG uptake in draining lymph nodes in comparison with the associated lung nodule seen in [ &lt;sup&gt;18&lt;/sup&gt; F]FDG-PET/CT, the so-called "flip-flop fungus" sign, can help to orientate further diagnostic measures. We report a case of a 56-year-old woman living in Switzerland, a non-endemic region, whose diagnosis of imported histoplasmosis was delayed since the findings had been initially misinterpreted as pulmonary malignancy. Further, histological workup was inconclusive due to lack of specific fungal staining, leading to ineffective treatment and non-resolving disease. This paper intends to highlight the pitfalls in diagnosing Histoplasma capsulatum and presents images of particularities of fungal infections in [ &lt;sup&gt;18&lt;/sup&gt; F]FDG-PET/CT, which in our case showed a "flip-flop fungus" sign

    Twisted Classical Poincar\'{e} Algebras

    We consider the twisting of Hopf structure for classical enveloping algebra U(g^)U(\hat{g}), where g^\hat{g} is the inhomogenous rotations algebra, with explicite formulae given for D=4D=4 Poincar\'{e} algebra (g^=P4).(\hat{g}={\cal P}_4). The comultiplications of twisted UF(P4)U^F({\cal P}_4) are obtained by conjugating primitive classical coproducts by FU(c^)U(c^),F\in U(\hat{c})\otimes U(\hat{c}), where c^\hat{c} denotes any Abelian subalgebra of P4{\cal P}_4, and the universal RR-matrices for UF(P4)U^F({\cal P}_4) are triangular. As an example we show that the quantum deformation of Poincar\'{e} algebra recently proposed by Chaichian and Demiczev is a twisted classical Poincar\'{e} algebra. The interpretation of twisted Poincar\'{e} algebra as describing relativistic symmetries with clustered 2-particle states is proposed.Comment: \Large \bf 19 pages, Bonn University preprint, November 199

    Static properties of nuclear matter within the Boson Loop Expansion

    The use of the Boson Loop Expansion is proposed for investigating the static properties of nuclear matter. We explicitly consider a schematic dynamical model in which nucleons interact with the scalar-isoscalar sigma meson. The suggested approximation scheme is examined in detail at the mean field level and at the one- and two-loop orders. The relevant formulas are provided to derive the binding energy per nucleon, the pressure and the compressibility of nuclear matter. Numerical results of the binding energy at the one-loop order are presented for Walecka's sigma-omega model in order to discuss the degree of convergence of the Boson Loop Expansion.Comment: 40 pages, 13 figure

    Particle and Antiparticle sectors in DSR1 and kappa-Minkowski space-time

    In this paper we explore the problem of antiparticles in DSR1 and κ\kappa-Minkowski space-time following three different approaches inspired by the Lorentz invariant case: a) the dispersion relation, b) the Dirac equation in space-time and c) the Dirac equation in momentum space. We find that it is possible to define a map SdsrS_{dsr} which gives the antiparticle sector from the negative frequency solutions of the wave equation. In κ\kappa-Poincar\'e, the corresponding map SkpS_{kp} is the antipodal mapping, which is different from SdsrS_{dsr}. The difference is related to the composition law, which is crucial to define the multiparticle sector of the theory. This discussion permits to show that the energy of the antiparticle in DSR is the positive root of the dispersion relation, which is consistent with phenomenological approaches.Comment: 15 pages, no figures, some references added, typos correcte
