Relatively high levels of serum adiponectin in obese women, a potential indicator of anti-inflammatory dysfunction: Relation to sex hormone-binding globulin

It is unclear whether serum adiponectin concentrations diminish linearly with increasing adiposity and, if not, which factors codetermine this association. These issues were investigated cross-sectionally in 1188 men and women, representative of middle-aged and elderly Turkish adults. Serum total adiponectin was assayed by ELISA. Serum adiponectin values in men, though declining significantly in transition from the bottom to the mid tertile of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), were similar in the two respective upper tertiles. In women, serum adiponectin concentrations were not significantly different in any tertile of these indices, were significantly correlated with BMI or WC within the low tertiles and not within the two higher tertiles. In a linear regression analysis for WC (or BMI) in a subset of the sample in which serum sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) was available and which additionally comprised adiponectin, fasting insulin and other confounders, only insulin and, in women SHBG, were significantly associated, but not adiponectin. In linear regression analyses for covariates of adiponectin in two models comprising 12 variables, insulin and SHBG concentrations were significantly associated in both genders though not BMI. Whereas in men HDL-cholesterol and CRP were covariates of adiponectin (both p<0.01), SHBG and apolipoprotein B positively associated in women (p<0.001), independent of BMI and fasting insulin levels

In this research some chemical and physical analysis were made on chicken minced meat which were ready to be consumed in Bursa, to recognize and have an idea about the content and quality of the newly introduced product into the market. In this research 40 samples of 5 different brands were used as samples. Chicken minced meat samples as chemical and physical analysis; pH, dry solid, ash, fat, protein, spoilage test and different tissue were examined and the statistical analysis of the chicken minced meat samples were determined. In the composition of different brands, different results were noticed (p< 0.01). In the samples of chicken minced meat as a result of analysis, on an average 26,46 % dry solid, 0.87 % ash, 3.24 % fat, 19.43 % protein, 4.30 % different tissue, pH 6.30 were found. Most of the pH values of samples were close to the critical value and there was the spoilage only in one sample. The importance of quality demand is increasing day by day and as a result of this the chicken minced meat should be presented to the customer all in healty and best quality standarts

Impaired anti-inflammatory function of apolipoprotein A-II concentrations predicts metabolic syndrome and diabetes at 4 years follow-up in elderly Turks

Background: We evaluated prospectively the predictive value of serum apolipoprotein (apo) A-II, the second major apolipoprotein of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), for cardiometabolic risk in Turkish adults showing abnormalities in other proteins that normally confer protection. Methods: Determinants of apoA-II and its associations with coronary heart disease (CHD), metabolic syndrome (MetS) and diabetes were investigated at 4 years follow-up in 193 elderly men and women. Results: ApoA-II concentrations at baseline, in addition to being significantly related to HDL-cholesterol, were directly associated with complement C3 in multivariate linear regression analyses comprising nine variables. Following adjustment for gender, age and HDL-cholesterol (>30/>33 g/L, in men and women, respectively), low serum apoA-II concentrations predicted incident MetS [relative risk (RR) 3.5 (95% CI 1.4; 8.6)] and type 2 diabetes [RR 4.5 (95% CI 1.3; 15.6)] in both genders at an increment of 1 SD. Increased apoA-II values were not associated with prevalent or incident CHD, and tended to be marginally atheroprotective only in males. Conclusions: Serum apoA-II concentrations confer risk for MetS and diabetes and exhibit evidence of anti-inflammatory properties among Turks. These findings support the effects seen for several other HDL protein constituents. This finding may explain the increased cardiometabolic risk among Turks.
