    Determination of the Chiral Couplings L_10 and C_87 from Semileptonic Tau Decays

    Using recent precise hadronic tau-decay data on the V-A spectral function, and general properties of QCD such as analyticity, the operator product expansion and chiral perturbation theory, we get accurate values for the QCD chiral order parameters L_10^r(M_rho) and C_87^r(M_rho). These two low-energy constants appear at order p^4 and p^6, respectively, in the chiral perturbation theory expansion of the V-A correlator. At order p^4 we obtain L_10^r(M_rho) = -(5.22\pm 0.06)10^{-3}. Including in the analysis the two-loop (order p^6) contributions, we get L_10^r(M_rho) = -(4.06\pm 0.39)10^{-3} and C_87^r(M_rho) = (4.89\pm 0.19)10^{-3}GeV^{-2}. In the SU(2) chiral effective theory, the corresponding low-energy coupling takes the value \overline l_5 = 13.30 \pm 0.11 at order p^4, and \overline l_5 = 12.24 \pm 0.21 at order p^6.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, v2: Added reference, published versio

    Evidence for the effect of sorption enantioselectivity on the availability of chiral pesticide enantiomers in soil

In this work, we present direct evidence for the effect of the enantioselective sorption of a chiral pesticide in a natural soil on the availability of the single pesticide enantiomers for transport. Batch sorption experiments, with direct determination of the sorbed amounts, combined with column leaching tests confirmed previous observations that from non-racemic aqueous solutions the sorption of the chiral fungicide metalaxyl on the soil appeared to be enantioselective, and further demonstrated that the enantiomer that was sorbed to a greater extent (R-metalaxyl, Kd = 1.73 L/kg) exhibited retarded leaching compared to its optical isomer (S-metalaxyl, Kd = 1.15 L/kg). Interconversion and degradation of the pesticide enantiomers, which are potential experimental artifacts that can lead to erroneous estimates of sorption and its enantioselectivity, were discarded as possible causes of the observed enantioselective behavior. The results presented here may have very important implications for a correct assessment of the environmental fate of chiral pesticides that are incorporated into the environment as non-racemic mixtures, and also of aged chiral pesticide residues that have been transformed from racemic to non-racemic by biologically-mediated processes. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd.     Comportamiento del herbicida fluometurón en un suelo de olivar enmendado con organoarcilla bajo condiciones de campo

En trabajos previos realizados en condiciones de laboratorio, observamos que la modificación de una montmorillonita de Wyoming (SWy- 2) con el catión orgánico de origen natural espermina (SPERM) daba lugar a una organoarcilla (SW- SPERM) con una afinidad muy elevada por el herbicida fluometurón y que la adición de SW-SPERM a suelos aumentaba el poder de retención de éstos y reducía la lixiviación del herbicida. El objetivo del presente trabajo ha sido evaluar el efecto de la adición de SW-SPERM a un suelo de olivar mediterráneo en la persistencia, lixiviación y escorrentía del herbicida fluometurón bajo condiciones reales de campo. Se utilizaron dos parcelas de 4 x 1 m, una sin enmendar y otra enmendada con SW-SPERM a 0.2 kg/m2, a las que se aplicó fluometurón a 3 kg/ha. Se tomaron muestras de suelo a diferentes tiempos y profundidades (0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm) y se determinó la cantidad de herbicida en las mismas así como en las aguas de escorrentía procedentes de cada parcela. En la parcela enmendada con SW-SPERM, el herbicida persistió durante más tiempo en los primeros 0-5 cm de suelo, presentando una menor lixiviación en comparación con la parcela sin enmendar. Las concentraciones de herbicida en las aguas de escorrentía de la parcela enmendada con SW-SPERM fueron superiores que en las aguas procedentes de la parcela sin enmendar, probablemente por la mayor persistencia del herbicida en el horizonte más superficial y el posible arrastre de herbicida asociado a partículas de arcilla. Los resultados apuntan a que SW-SPERM podría ser útil como enmienda de suelos para aumentar el tiempo de residencia de fluometurón en la zona radicular, controlando el posible riesgo por escorrentía del herbicida o aplicando la organoarcilla a una cierta profundidad en el suelo para protegerla de la escorrentía.Este trabajo ha sido financiado por la Junta de Andalucía a través del proyecto P07-AGR-03077, cofinanciado con fondos FEDER-FSE a través del programa Operativo de Andalucía 2007-2013.     K -> 3 pi Final State Interactions at NLO in CHPT and Cabibbo's Proposal to Measure a_0-a_2

    We present the analytical results for the K -> 3 pi final state interactions at next-to-leading order (NLO) in CHPT. We also study the recent Cabibbo's proposal to measure the pi-pi scattering lenghts combination a_0-a_2 from the cusp effect in the pi^0-pi^0 energy spectrum at threshold for K^+ -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^+ and K_L -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0$, and give the relevant formulas to describe it at NLO. For that, we use the NLO CHPT expression to fit the real part of K -> 3 pi to data while the pi-pi scattering lenghts are treated non-perturbatively. Using them, we make a quantitative estimate of the theoretical uncertaintity of the a_0-a_2 determination at NLO in our approach and obtain that it is not smaller than 5 % if added quadratically and 7 % if linearly for K^+ -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^+. One gets similar theoretical uncertainties if the neutral K_L -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 decay data below threshold are used instead. For this decay, there are very large theoretical uncertainties above threshold due to cancellations and data above threshold cannot be used to get the scattering lenghts. All the numbers we present are in the isospin limit apart of two-pion phase space factors which are physical. We compare our results for the cusp effect with Cabibbo and Isidori's results and discuss the differences and agreements. We also comment on the apperance of the singularity at the K -> 3 pi pseudo-threshold s=(m_K-m_pi)^2 in the discontinuity that defines the cusp.Comment: 31 pages, 8 figures. v2=v3 Added the full contributions to the cusp from the real part of the discontinuity. v4 Improved text.     Precise B, B_s and B_c meson spectroscopy from full lattice QCD

    We give the first accurate results for BB and BsB_s meson masses from lattice QCD including the effect of uu, dd and ss sea quarks, and we improve an earlier value for the BcB_c meson mass. By using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action for u/du/d, ss and cc quarks and NRQCD for the bb quarks, we are able to achieve an accuracy in the masses of around 10 MeV. Our results are: mBm_B = 5.291(18) GeV, mBsm_{B_s} = 5.363(11) GeV and mBcm_{B_c} = 6.280(10) GeV. Note that all QCD parameters here are tuned from other calculations, so these are parameter free tests of QCD against experiment. We also give scalar, Bs0B_{s0}^*, and axial vector, Bs1B_{s1}, meson masses. We find these to be slightly below threshold for decay to BKBK and BKB^*K respectively.Comment: 22 pages, 19 figure

Libro de Resúmenes: Noviembre de 2015 en Sevilla.Existen numerosos trabajos que abordan las aplicaciones de arcillas naturales, inalteradas o modificadas, como adsorbentes de pesticidas para la depuración de aguas e incluso para actuar como soportes en formulaciones de liberación lenta del pesticida o como barreras inmovilizantes en suelos (Cornejo et al., 2008). La mayoría de estos estudios se han realizado bajo condiciones controladas en el laboratorio y usando minerales de la arcilla naturales del grupo de las esmectitas. En los últimos años, ha aumentado el interés por explotar las propiedades adsorbentes de los hidróxidos dobles laminares (HDLs), también conocidos como hidrotalcitas (HTs) o arcillas aniónicas, cuyas características estructurales guardan cierta relación con las de las esmectitas (Cornejo et al., 2008). Los LDHs consisten en láminas del tipo brucita de un metal divalente con sustituciones isomórficas que proporcionan a las láminas una carga permanente positiva y que es compensada con aniones intercambiables que se sitúan en el espacio interlaminar. Aunque los resultados obtenidos hasta ahora ponen de manifiesto la elevada capacidad de adsorción de los LDHs para muchos pesticidas y la versatilidad que les confiere la posibilidad de modificarlos mediante la intercalación de aniones orgánicos en el espacio interlaminar (Celis et al., 2014), su utilidad como enmendantes para aumentar la capacidad de adsorción de los suelos bajo condiciones ambientales reales aún no ha sido evaluada.Este trabajo ha sido financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) a través de los proyectos AGL2011-23779 y AGL2014-51897-R y por la Junta de Andalucía a través del Grupo de Investigación AGR-264, con parte de fondos FEDER-FSE.     Effect of synthetic clay and biochar addition on dissipation and enantioselectivity of tebuconazole and metalaxyl in an agricultural soil: Laboratory and field experiments

    10 páginas.-- 4 figuras.-- 3 tablas.-- referencias.-- Supplementary data associated with this article can be found, in the online version, at http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.agee.2016.05.017Laboratory and field experiments were conducted to assess how the addition of oleate-modified hydrotalcite (clay) and biochar (BC) to an agricultural soil affected the sorption, leaching, persistence, and enantiomeric composition of soil residues of two chiral fungicides, tebuconazole and metalaxyl. Laboratory experiments showed that the sorption of both fungicides ranked as follows: unamended soil < BC-amended soil < clay-amended soil. The addition of clay at a rate of 1% increased metalaxyl soil sorption coefficient (Kd) from 0.34 to 3.14 L kg−1 and that of tebuconazole from 2.4 to 47.4 L kg−1. In our experimental set-up, field plots were either unamended or amended with clay (2 t ha−1) or BC (4 t ha−1), and subsequently treated with a mixture of tebuconazole and metalaxyl at 3 and 6 kg ha−1, respectively. The leaching, persistence, and enantiomer composition of fungicides residues were monitored by sampling at different soil depths (0–5, 5–10, 10–20 cm) for 98 days. No significant changes in the scarce mobility and long persistence of tebuconazole upon amending the soil with clay or BC were observed. In contrast, sorption to clay and BC particles reduced the leaching and degradation of metalaxyl and the clay increased its persistence in the topsoil compared to the unamended soil. The enantioselective analysis of tebuconazole and metalaxyl soil residues indicated that tebuconazole remained mostly racemic along the experiment, whereas for metalaxyl the concentration of S-enantiomer was greater than the concentration of R-enantiomer, more so at longer experimental times and deeper horizons. Nevertheless, for the top 0–5 cm soil layer metalaxyl remained more racemic in clay- and BC-amended soil than in unamended soil. Our results show that addition of amendments with high sorptive capacities can be beneficial in reducing leaching and degradation losses of chiral pesticide enantiomers from the topsoil, and that sorption by the amendments can influence the final enantiomeric composition of pesticide residues.This work was financed by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO Projects AGL2011-23779, AGL2013-48446-C3-1-R and AGL2014-51897-R) and Junta de Andalucía (JA Research Group AGR-264), with FEDER-FSE funds.     Performance of magnetic dipole contribution on ferromagnetic non-Newtonian radiative MHD blood flow: An application of biotechnology and medical sciences

    Casson flow ferromagnetic liquid blood flow over stretching region is studied numerically. The domain is influence by radiation and blood flow velocity and thermal slip conditions. Blood acts an impenetrable magneto-dynamic liquid yields governing equations. The conservative governing nonlinear partial differential equations, reduced to ODEs by the help of similarity translation technique. The transport equations were transformed into first order ODEs and the resultant system are solved with help of 4th order R-K scheme. Performing a magnetic dipole with a Casson flow across a stretched region with Brownian motion and Thermophoresis is novelty of the problem. Significant applications of the study in some spheres are metallurgy, extrusion of polymers, production in papers and rubber manufactured sheets. Electronics, analytical instruments, medicine, friction reduction, angular momentum shift, heat transmission, etc. are only few of the many uses for ferromagnetic fluids. As ferromagnetic interaction parameter value improves, the skin-friction, Sherwood and Nusselt numbers depreciates. A comparative study of the present numerical scheme for specific situations reveals a splendid correlation with earlier published work. A change in blood flow velocity magnitude has been noted due to Casson parameter. Increasing change in blood flow temperature noted due to Casson parameter. Skin-friction strengthened and Nusselt number is declined with Casson parameter.     Charged Kaon K \to 3 pi CP Violating Asymmetries at NLO in CHPT

    We give the first full next-to-leading order analytical results in Chiral Perturbation Theory for the charged Kaon K \to 3 pi slope g and decay rates CP-violating asymmetries. We have included the dominant Final State Interactions at NLO analytically and discussed the importance of the unknown counterterms. We find that the uncertainty due to them is reasonable just for \Delta g_C, i.e. the asymmetry in the K^+ \to pi^+ pi^+ pi^- slope g; we get \Delta g_C = -(2.4 +- 1.2) 10^{-5}. The rest of the asymmetries are very sensitive to the unknown counterterms. In particular, the decay rate asymmetries can change even sign. One can use this large sentivity to get valuable information on those counterterms and on Im(G_8) coupling --very important for the CP-violating parameter epsilon'_K-- from the eventual measurement of these asymmetries.
