Contributos para o estudo da semântica de linguagens com concorrência e mobilidade

Tese de Doutoramento em Informática, especialidade de Teoria da Computação.Neste trabalho mostra-se como abordagens matematicamente mais simples que as tradicionais podem ser usadas na definição da semântica de linguagens com concorrência e também de linguagens com mobilidade. Completam-se também alguns aspectos da semântica da mobilidade para os quais as propostas actualmente existentes apresentam limitações. Faz-se a exploração de dois tipos de técnicas para definir as semânticas operacionais e denotacionais de linguagens com concorrência e mobilidade. Por um lado usam-se os conjuntos com famílias de equivalência, um conceito mais simples e manejável, que parece substituir com vantagens ao nível da simplicidade os espaços métricos, usados nas abordagens tradicionais. Por outro lado, completa-se o trabalho com uma abordagem mais recente, baseada na utilização de coálgebras para definir sistemas e tirando partido das facilidades proporcionadas pelos conjuntos nominais na manipulação de nomes. Seasonal mortality patterns and regional contrasts in Portugal

The main aim of this study is to identify the geographical seasonal mortality patterns in Portugal and, for the first time, to assess the relationship between seasonal and overall mortality. Monthly data from the Portuguese mortality database (2000-2009) by major cause of death were analysed and standardized to 30 days with adjustments for leap years. The chi-square goodness-of-fit test was used to compare the observed monthly deaths with deaths that could be expected if mortality were randomly distributed throughout the year. The seasonal burden was measured using the excess winter deaths (EWD) rate and the seasonal impact of winter on mortality was assessed through the EWD Index. The regions were clustered according to the overall mortality rate and the seasonal impact: 1–low seasonality and high values of overall mortality; 2–high seasonality and high values of overall mortality; 3–low values of seasonality and low overall mortality; 4–high seasonality and low overall mortality. Significant seasonal mortality increases were found in all causes of death. There were 86,000 EWDs, mostly through circulatory and respiratory diseases. 73% of the population lives in regions with high winter vulnerability to respiratory mortality and 60% in regions with high winter vulnerability to circulatory mortality. This study reinforces the idea that vulnerability to cold weather may play an important role in the public health in Portugal. Seasonal mortality patterns due to diseases of the circulatory system in Portugal

Exposure to cold weather has negative consequences on human health. Studies have been showing that the seasonality of mortality has an evident peak during winter months in European countries. However, the highest increases in mortality are registered in countries with mild winters. According to several studies winter deaths seem to be associated with low socioeconomic conditions. The main aims of this study are to identify the trends of mortality due to diseases of the circulatory system and excess winter deaths in Portugal and to assess the geographical pattern of seasonal mortality. In the 20 years under analyses, mortality due to diseases of the circulatory system increased 38% during winter months when compared to the non-winter period. Important regional disparities were found, the Excess Winter Death index ranged from 21% to 48%, the central regions tend to have better results. Our results indicate that although circulatory mortality is significantly decreasing in Portugal, the vulnerability to seasonal cold weather remains as an important public health issue. Pedagogia do Deslumbramento - O texto literário, o animador de leitura e as estratégias de animação

Trabalho de Projeto apresentado à Escola Superior de Educação de Paula Frassinetti Para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ciências da Educação Especialização em Animação da LeituraHoje em dia, encontramos nas escolas, terreno propício ao laboro de mentes criativas, docentes desacreditados de si mesmos e das práticas que diariamente operam e a quem a docência já não deslumbra como outrora. Por outro lado, deparamo-nos com alunos igualmente desmotivados, agitados e indisciplinados para quem a escola está muito longe das expectativas que haviam criado. Perante esta realidade, torna-se urgente uma mudança de paradigma e impõe-se a instituição de uma nova pedagogia – uma Pedagogia do Deslumbramento - pela palavra e pela leitura do texto literário. Socorrendo-nos de uma investigação de índole qualitativa procuramos perceber o que poderá ser esta Pedagogia do Deslumbramento e de que forma poderá ser posta em prática, para além de buscarmos o conhecimento acerca de um professor que a possa adotar em contexto educativo – o professor deslumbrador. Alicerçando-nos no conhecimento mais profundo que as narrativas biográficas nos proporcionam, procuramos conhecer as principais motivações que os professores revelam para a docência bem como as práticas que operam e as dificuldades que sentem diariamente. Da recolha de dados que realizámos no contexto da Escola Básica de Agualva, concelho de Sintra – observação direta e participante, entrevistas aos docentes e análise documental – conseguimos aferir das estratégias que poderão ser indutoras de deslumbramento, havendo igualmente conseguido traçar um perfil de competências para o professor-deslumbrador. No estudo que agora se apresenta ao leitor, conseguimos concluir, portanto, da urgência e importância de instauração de uma Pedagogia do Deslumbramento, da necessidade de formação de um professor-deslumbrador, bem como das estratégias, atividades e dispositivos pedagógicos que se instituem como ferramentas indispensáveis ao deslumbramento que se pretende alcançar, tendo sempre como fim primeiro e último a utilização do texto literário nas suas infinitas possibilidades de exploração e a criação de hábitos leitores nas crianças.Today we find in schools, fertile ground to the labor of creative minds, discredited teachers themselves and the practices that operate daily and to whom teaching no longer dazzles as before. On the other hand, we are faced with students also unmotivated, restless and unruly for whom school is far from the expectations they had created. Given this reality, becomes urgent a change of paradigm and the and the institution of a new pedagogy - Pedagogy of the Dazzle - through the word and through the reading of the literary text. Through a qualitative nature research we seek to understand what what may be this Pedagogy of the Dazzle and how it will be implemented, in addition to seek the knowledge about a teacher who can adopt this pedagogyin the educational context – the teacher of the dazzle. Basing ourselves at the deepest knowledge that biographical narratives provide us, we seek to know the main motivations that teachers reveal for teaching, the practices they operate and their daily difficulties. Data collection we have done in the context of the Basic School of Agualva, Sintra - direct and participant observation, interviews to teachers and documentary analysis – we can evaluate the strategies that may be inducing wonder, having also managed to draw a profile of competences for dazzling-teacher. In the study now presented to the reader, we conclude, therefore, the urgency and importance of establishment of a Pedagogy of the Dazzle, the need for training of a teacher of the dazzle as well as the strategies, activities and pedagogical devices that are instituted as tools indispensable to dazzle to be achieved, always with the order first and last use of the literary text in its infinite possibilities for exploration and creating readers habits in children

Time series analysis applied on exposure to cold and daily hospital admissions in Portugal

Assessing the impact of poor housing conditions on human health in Portugal

Improvement on the quality housing is fundamental for reducing thermal discomfort and thus exposure to cold and a better health. Morbidity and mortality has obviously a multivariable cause and one of them is the thermal discomfort in our homes where, as a sedentary being, we spend most of our daily life. A continuous exposure to cold surely debilitates our health and will lead to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Most of the Portuguese dwellings show a poor building quality. There are several origins for these deficiencies and with consequences at different levels, in particular, in terms of human comfort. In fact, Portugal is one of the southern European countries that have higher mortality in winter. However, the number of studies relating cold weather and morbidity/mortality is still very rare. These occurrences are suspected to be associated with housing quality especially thermal insulation. In order to assess the relation between the incidence of coronary events and housing, a national survey on patients with acute coronary syndromes in several regions of Portugal was realized during the winter months and data on the housing conditions and behavior attitudes against cold exposure were asked. A better knowledge about the influence of weather and climate on such ailment may be applied to built up a guide for housing design (to new and restorations of old dwellings), inpolicies and strategies for protection and adaptation, health planning, as well as alert systems in order to reduce the number of deaths by cardiovascular failure.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Satisfação no trabalho dos enfermeiros nos Cuidados de Saúde Primários

Introdução: As mudanças que ocorreram nas organizações de saúde repercutiram-se nos aspetos psicossociais dos colaboradores. Por inerência da sua especificidade profissional, os enfermeiros deparam-se com fatores pessoais, profissionais e organizacionais capazes de condicionar a satisfação no trabalho (Borges, 2012). Pretende-se identificar o nível de satisfação no trabalho dos enfermeiros e sua variação em função de características individuais/profissionais. Metodologia: Estudo exploratório, transversal de natureza quantitativa. Aplicou-se um questionário de sociodemográfico/ profissional e de satisfação no trabalho S20/23 (Meliá e Peiró, 1989; Pocinho e Garcia, 2008), a 109 enfermeiros portugueses de um ACeS da zona norte de Portugal (77,1% mulheres, 72,5% com parceiro, tempo de serviço na profissão M=14,3 anos; 78,9% a trabalhar com horário fixo e 81,7% considera o trabalho stressante). Resultado: Dos resultados preliminares salienta-se que a satisfação no trabalho global (S20/23) é de M=4,67 (DP=0,72) sendo a Satisfação com a supervisão a que apresenta valor mais elevado (M=4,97; DP=0,91) e o valor mais baixo a Satisfação com os benefícios e políticas da organização (M=3,82; DP=1,02). Discussão: Estes resultados acompanham os valores encontrados por outros investigadores (Ferreira et al., 2010). Conclusão: Os resultados encontrados apontam para a pertinência dos gestores desenvolverem estratégias, no que concerne à satisfação no trabalho dos enfermeiros, promovendo a saúde no local de trabalho, contribuindo deste modo para ambientes de trabalho saudáveis.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
