    This study aimed to understand how the implementation of education and training, particularly with regard to systems of recruitment of participants, participant curriculum, teaching methods, sources of funding obtained, the facilities available and types of training that followed and what influence it had on the performance of the Southeast Maluku District Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) staff after participating. The study used qualitative analysis. Respondents were civil servants at Southeast Maluku District Corporate A Group Management Environment Living (BPLH). The respondents were purposely selected, consisting of civil servants who participated in the education and training program, the colleagues and the direct supervisors of those civil servants. Data collection used in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The analysis used interactive models with the ultimate goal of knowing whether there was any relationship between participation in education and training programs with performance. The results of this study indicated that the civil servants\u27 performance significantly improved through education and training. The improvement could be detected from the increasing ability and willingness to work of the staff, where the knowledge gained from the training could be used in their work, minimizing the gap between skills and tasks. Having new skills in various fields increased labor productivity and thus work performance

    Plasmas generated by ultra-violet light rather than electron impact

    We analyze, in both plane and cylindrical geometries, a collisionless plasma consisting of an inner region where generation occurs by UV illumination, and an un-illuminated outer region with no generation. Ions generated in the inner region flow outwards through the outer region and into a wall. We solve for this system's steady state, first in the quasi-neutral regime (where the Debye length λD{\lambda}_D vanishes and analytic solutions exist) and then in the general case, which we solve numerically. In the general case a double layer forms where the illuminated and un-illuminated regions meet, and an approximately quasi-neutral plasma connects the double layer to the wall sheath; in plane geometry the ions coast through the quasi-neutral section at slightly more than the Bohm speed csc_s. The system, although simple, therefore has two novel features: a double layer that does not require counter-streaming ions and electrons, and a quasi-neutral plasma where ions travel in straight lines with at least the Bohm speed. We close with a pr\'{e}cis of our asymptotic solutions of this system, and suggest how our theoretical conclusions might be extended and tested in the laboratory.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Physics of Plasma

    Effect of various dopant elements on primary graphite growth

    Five spheroidal graphite cast irons were investigated, a usual ferritic grade and four pearlitic alloys containing Cu and doped with Sb, Sn and Ti. These alloys were remelted in a graphite crucible, leading to volatilization of the magnesium added for spheroidization and to carbon saturation of the liquid. The alloys were then cooled down and maintained at a temperature above the eutectic temperature. During this step, primary graphite could develop showing various features depending on the doping elements added. The largest effects were that of Ti which greatly reduces graphite nucleation and growth, and that of Sb which leads to rounded agglomerates instead of lamellar graphite. The samples have been investigated with secondary ion mass spectrometry to enlighten distribution of elements in primary graphite. SIMS analysis showed almost even distribution of elements, including Mg and Al (from the inoculant) in the ferritic grade, while uneven distribution was evident in all doped alloys. Investigations are going on to clarify if the uneven distribution is associated with structural defects in the graphite precipitates

    Effect of ontogenetic increases in body size on burst swimming performance in tadpoles of the striped marsh frog, Limnodynastes peronii

    The effect of ontogenetic increases in total length on burst swimming performance was investigated in tadpoles of the striped marsh frog (Limnodynastes peronii) over the total-length range of 1.5-4 cm and Gosner developmental stages 25-38. The burst swimming performance of tadpoles at 10 degrees and 24 degrees C was determined by videotaping startle responses with a highspeed video camera at 200 Hz and analysing the sequences frame by frame. Maximum swimming velocity (U-max) and acceleration (A(max)) increased with total length (L) at a rate that was proportionally greater than the increase in total length (i.e., positive allometry; exponents >1) and was described by the allometric equations U-max = 0.061L(1.34) and A(max) =1.15L(1.11) at 10 degrees C and U-max = 0.114L(1.34) and A(max) = 1.54L(1.11) at 24 degrees C. Stride length increased with a total-length exponent of approximately 1 bur was unaffected by temperature. Tail-beat frequency was not affected by total length and increased from 7.8 +/- 0.2 Hz at 10 degrees C to 21.7 +/- 0.7 Hz at 24 degrees C. Developmental stage did not significantly influence the relationship between total length and U-max or A(max). Furthermore, temperature and the associated changes in water viscosity did not affect the relationship between total length and burst swimming performance. At their U-max, Reynolds numbers ranged from approximately 1,500 in the smaller tadpoles up to 50,000 for the larger animals at 24 degrees C We suggest the positive allometry of U-max in larval L. peronii was due in part to the increases in tail width (TW) with total length (TW= -1.36(1.66)), possibly reflecting the increasing importance of burst swimming performance to survival during larval development

    GraphX: Unifying Data-Parallel and Graph-Parallel Analytics

    From social networks to language modeling, the growing scale and importance of graph data has driven the development of numerous new graph-parallel systems (e.g., Pregel, GraphLab). By restricting the computation that can be expressed and introducing new techniques to partition and distribute the graph, these systems can efficiently execute iterative graph algorithms orders of magnitude faster than more general data-parallel systems. However, the same restrictions that enable the performance gains also make it difficult to express many of the important stages in a typical graph-analytics pipeline: constructing the graph, modifying its structure, or expressing computation that spans multiple graphs. As a consequence, existing graph analytics pipelines compose graph-parallel and data-parallel systems using external storage systems, leading to extensive data movement and complicated programming model. To address these challenges we introduce GraphX, a distributed graph computation framework that unifies graph-parallel and data-parallel computation. GraphX provides a small, core set of graph-parallel operators expressive enough to implement the Pregel and PowerGraph abstractions, yet simple enough to be cast in relational algebra. GraphX uses a collection of query optimization techniques such as automatic join rewrites to efficiently implement these graph-parallel operators. We evaluate GraphX on real-world graphs and workloads and demonstrate that GraphX achieves comparable performance as specialized graph computation systems, while outperforming them in end-to-end graph pipelines. Moreover, GraphX achieves a balance between expressiveness, performance, and ease of use

    The ground state entanglement in the XXZXXZ model

    In this paper, we investigate spin entanglement in the XXZXXZ model defined on a dd-dimensional bipartite lattice. The concurrence, a measure of the entanglement between two spins, is analyzed. We prove rigorously that the ground state concurrence reaches maximum at the isotropic point. For dimensionality d≥2d \ge 2, the concurrence develops a cusp at the isotropic point and we attribute it to the existence of magnetic long-range order.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

    Analysis of the radiation flux profile along a PV through concentrator

    The primary advantage of a PV concentrator is that concentrating light allows a significant reduction in the area of solar cell coverage, the main cost driver in a flat plate system. PV systems, whether flat plate or concentrating, normally have groups of solar cells connected in series in order to increase voltage and limit current. However, low illumination on a single cell proportionally reduces its current, and hence affects the performance of all other cells in series. Ideally, a reflective PV concentrator system will have high concentration, a uniform flux distribution, and low cost. However, it is difficult to obtain these three conditions simultaneously, as cost tends to increase with better mirror quality, improved tracking accuracy, and the use of secondary flux modifiers. Linear concentrators have the advantage of simpler and cheaper tracking and support structures than dishes; however, achieving a consistent flux profile on every cell along the focal line is challenging. The aim of this paper is to present results of direct measurements of the flux profile along the length of a single axis tracking trough, and to develop simulation techniques that allow the reasons for peaks and troughs in the flux profile to be better understood

    If the vector glueball exists in the mass range that theory suggests, its resonance production cross section can be seen in e+e- annihilation only if the decay width is very narrow (< a few MeV). Otherwise it willbe observed only indirectly through its mixing with psi(2S).
