    Highly dispersed Ptδ+ on TixCe(1−x)O2 as an active phase in preferential oxidation of CO

    Structure–activity relationships for 1 wt.% Pt catalysts were investigated for a series of TixCe(1−x)O2 (x = 1, 0.98, 0.9, 0.5, 0.2 and 0) supports prepared by the sol–gel method. The catalysts prepared by impregnation were characterized in detail by applying a wide range of techniques as N2-isotherms, XRF, XRD, Raman, XPS, H2-TPR, Drifts, UV–vis, etc. and tested in the preferential oxidation of CO in the presence of H2. Also several reaction conditions were deeply analyzed. A strong correlation between catalyst performance and the electronic properties let us to propose, based in all the experimental results, a plausible reaction mechanism where several redox cycles are involved.Financial support from Generalitat Valenciana and Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Spain) through projects PROME-TEOII/2014/004 and MAT2010-21147 is gratefully acknowledged.     Preferential oxidation of CO in excess of H2 on Pt/CeO2–Nb2O5 catalysts

    A series of CeO2–Nb2O5 mixed oxides with different Nb content, as well as the pure oxides, have been synthesized by co-precipitation with excess urea. These materials have been used as supports for platinum catalysts, with [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 as precursor. Both supports and catalysts have been characterized by several techniques: N2 physisorption at 77 K, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, temperature-programmed reduction and temperature-programmed desorption (CO and H2), and their catalytic behaviour has been determined in the PROX reaction, both with an ideal gas mixture (CO, O2 and H2) and in simulated reformate gas containing CO2 and H2O. Raman spectroscopy analysis has shown the likely substitution of some Ce4+ cations by Nb5+ to some extent in supports with low niobium contents. Moreover, the presence of Nb in the supports hinders their ability to adsorb CO and to oxidize it to CO2. However, an improvement of the catalytic activity for CO oxidation is obtained by adding Nb to the support, although the Pt/Nb2O5 catalyst shows very low activity. The best results are found with the Pt/0.7CeO2–0.3Nb2O5 catalyst, which shows a high CO conversion (85%) and a high yield (around 0.6) after a reduction treatment at 523 K.     MicroRNAs and drinking: association between the Pre-miR-27a rs895819 polymorphism and alcohol consumption in a Mediterranean population

    Recently, microRNAs (miRNA) have been proposed as regulators in the different processes involved in alcohol intake, and differences have been found in the miRNA expression profile in alcoholics. However, no study has focused on analyzing polymorphisms in genes encoding miRNAs and daily alcohol consumption at the population level. Our aim was to investigate the association between a functional polymorphism in the pre-miR-27a (rs895819 A>G) gene and alcohol consumption in an elderly population. We undertook a cross-sectional study of PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED)-Valencia participants (n = 1007, including men and women aged 67 ± 7 years) and measured their alcohol consumption (total and alcoholic beverages) through a validated questionnaire. We found a strong association between the pre-miR-27a polymorphism and total alcohol intake, this being higher in GG subjects (5.2 ± 0.4 in AA, 5.9 ± 0.5 in AG and 9.1 ± 1.8 g/day in GG; padjusted = 0.019). We also found a statistically-significant association of the pre-miR-27a polymorphism with the risk of having a high alcohol intake (>2 drinks/day in men and >1 in women): 5.9% in AA versus 17.5% in GG; padjusted < 0.001. In the sensitivity analysis, this association was homogeneous for sex, obesity and Mediterranean diet adherence. In conclusion, we report for the first time a significant association between a miRNA polymorphism (rs895819) and daily alcohol consumption

    Procesos innovadores de cooperación: análisis y potencial de las redes de Living Labs

    International cooperation is an intrinsic component of the processes of innovation and development. Besides a model of cooperation, networks are an organizational model for institutional strengthening, for the articulation of national innovation systems and for the internationalization of them. Likewise, during the last 10 years there has been an increase of Living Labs linked to innovation in Europe. They are forming a growing community channeled through the European Network of Living Labs. The existing networks have been analyzed with the aim of knowing the state of the art and the future needs of the networks of Living Labs. The main objective is the exchange of best practices and lessons learned. The harmonization and integration of tools and methods among the partners is other cooperation objective. Finally, a third objective is to develop a larger scale research among the partners of the different laboratories. It is required a greater organizational structure to achieve collaborative and research results at a higher scale, the networks are still young.La cooperación internacional es un componente intrínseco de los procesos de innovación y desarrollo. Además de un modelo de cooperación, las redes constituyen un modelo organizativo para el fortalecimiento institucional, para la articulación de los sistemas nacionales de innovación y para la internacionalización de los mismos. Asimismo, durante los 10 últimos años ha habido un incremento de Living Labs en Europa, vinculados a la innovación, que están formando una creciente comunidad canalizada a través de La Red Europea de Living Labs. Con el objetivo de conocer el estado del arte y las necesidades futuras de las redes de Living Labs se han analizado las redes existentes, siendo el objetivo principal el intercambio de mejores prácticas y lecciones aprendidas. La armonización y la integración de herramientas y métodos entre los socios es otro de los objetivos de cooperación. Finalmente, un tercer objetivo es que entre los socios de los diferentes laboratorios se desarrolle una investigación a mayor escala. Se requiere una mayor estructura organizativa para resultados colaborativos y de investigación a mayor escala, las redes son aún jóvenes

    Pyrrolidine-based catalytic microporous polymers in sustainable C=N and C=C bond formation via iminium and enamine activation

    Producción CientíficaA new set of catalytic materials having a pyrrolidine moiety confined in microporous organic polymer networks (POPs) has been attained. These catalytic polymers have been prepared by a straightforward synthesis starting from microporous polymer networks made from isatin (or a mixture of isatin and trifluoroacetophenone) and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene. The polymers efficiently catalyzed the formation of nitrones under very mild and sustainable conditions using green solvents through an iminium ion activation mechanism. The reactions are scalable, and polymers are easily recycled. Special attention has been paid to understanding all the factors that could affect the efficiency of the confined catalysts. The electronic and conformational characteristics of the pyrrolidine moiety attached to the porous polymers, as well as other features that could affect the transport through the network, such as molecular volume and shape of reactants and products, and even hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties, have been systematically evaluated.     Current perspectives on the use of anti-VEGF drugs as adjuvant therapy in glaucoma

    The approval of one of the first anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration one decade ago marked the beginning of a new era in the management of several sight-threatening retinal diseases. Since then, emerging evidence has demonstrated the utility of these therapies for the treatment of other ocular conditions characterized by elevated VEGF levels. In this article we review current perspectives on the use of anti-VEGF drugs as adjuvant therapy in the management of neovascular glaucoma (NVG). The use of anti-VEGFs for modifying wound healing in glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS) is also reviewed. Selected studies investigating the use of anti-VEGF agents or antimetabolites in GFS or the management of NVG have demonstrated that these agents can improve surgical outcomes. However, anti-VEGF agents have yet to demonstrate specific advantages over the more established agents commonly used today. Further studies are needed to evaluate the duration of action, dosing intervals, and toxicity profile of these treatments

    Analysis of the safety culture in a Cardiology Unit managed by processes

    La cultura sobre seguridad se perfila como uno de los requisitos para evitar la aparición de efectos adversos, sin embargo no se ha estudiado en el ámbito de la cardiología. El objetivo es evaluar la cultura de seguridad en una unidad de cardiología que tiene implantado y certificado un sistema integrado de gestión de calidad y riesgos para la seguridad del paciente. Método: Se realizó un estudio observacional trasversal en 2 años consecutivos utilizando la encuesta Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture de la «Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality» en su versión española (42 ítems agrupados en 12 dimensiones) sobre todo el personal. Se comparó el porcentaje de respuestas positivas de cada dimensión en 2014 y 2015, así como con los datos a nivel nacional y en EE. UU., siguiendo las recomendaciones establecidas. Resultados: La valoración global, sobre un máximo de 5, fue de 4.5 en 2014 y de 4.7 en 2015. Identificamos 7 dimensiones como fortaleza. Las peor valoradas fueron: Dotación de personal, Apoyo de la gerencia y Trabajo en equipo entre unidades. La comparación mostró superioridad en todas las dimensiones a nivel nacional, y en 8 respecto a los datos del registro americano. Conclusiones: La cultura de seguridad en una unidad de cardiología con un sistema integrado de gestión de calidad y riesgos y seguridad del paciente es elevada, superior a la nacional en todas sus dimensiones y en la mayoría de ellas respecto al registro de EE. UU.The safety culture is one of the requirements to prevent the occurrence of adverse effects, however has not been studied in the field of cardiology. The objective is to evaluate the safety culture in a cardiology unit has implemented and certified an integrated quality and risk management for patient safety system. Methods: A transversal observational study was made in 2 consecutive years using the survey “Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture” of the “Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality” in its Spanish version (42 items grouped into 12 dimensions) in all staff. The percentage of positive responses in each dimension in 2014 and 2015 were compared, as well as national data and United States data, following the established rules. Results: The overall assessment of a possible 5, was 4.5 in 2014 and 4.7 in 2015. We identified seven dimensions as a fortress. The worst rated were: staffing, management support and teamwork between units. The comparison showed superiority in all dimensions respect to national data, and 8 respect to American data. Conclusions: The safety culture in a Cardiology Unit with an integrated quality and risk management and patient safety system is high, higher than the national in all its dimensions and in most of them respect to the United States

    Ventricular Fibrillation detection using time-frequency and the KNN classifier without parameter extraction

    [ES] Este trabajo propone la detección de FV y su discriminación de TV y otros ritmos cardiacos basándose en la representación tiempo-frecuencia del ECG y su conversión en imágen como entrada a un clasificador de vecinos más cercanos (KNN) sin necesidad de extracción de parámetros adicionales. Tres variantes de datos de entrada al clasificador son evaluados. Los resultados clasifican la señal en cuatro clases diferentes: ’Normal’ para latidos con ritmo sinusal, ’FV’ para fibrilación ventricular, ’TV’ para taquicardia ventricular y ’Otros’ para el resto de ritmos. Los resultados para detección de FV mostraron 88,27% de sensibilidad y 98,22% de especificidad para la entrada de imágen equivalente reducida que es la más rápida computacionalmente a pesar de obtener resultados de clasificación ligeramente inferiores a las representaciones no reducidas. En el caso de TV, se alcanzó un 88,31% de sensibilidad y 98,80% de especificidad, un 98,14% de sensibilidad y 96,82% de especificidad para ritmo sinusal normal y 96,91% de sensibilidad con 99,06% de especificidad para la clase ’Otros’. Finalmente, se realiza una comparación con otros algoritmos.[EN] This work describes new techniques to improve VF detection and its separation from Ventricular Tachycarida (VT) and other rhythms. It is based on time-frequency representation of the ECG and its use as input in an automatic classifier (K-nearest neighbours - KNN) without any further signal parameter extraction or additional characteristics. For comparison purposes, three time-frequency variants are analysed: pseudo Wigner-Ville representation (RTF), grey-scale image obtained from RTF (IRTF), and reduced image from IRTF (reduced IRTF). Four types of rhythms (classes) are defined: ’Normal’ for sinus rhythm, ’VT’ for ventricular tachycardia, ’VF’ for ventricular fibrillation and ’Others’ for the rest of rhythms. Classification results for VF detection in case of reduced IRTF are 88.27% sensitivity and 98.22% specificity. In case of VT, 88.31% sensitivity and 98.80% specificity is obtained, 98.14% sensitivity and 96.82% specificity for normal rhythms, and 96.91% sensitivity and 99.06% specificity for other rhythms.     P and R Wave Detection in Complete Congenital Atrioventricular Block

    Complete atrioventricular block (type III AVB) is characterized by an absence of P wave transmission to ventricles. This implies that QRS complexes are generated in an autonomous way and are not coordinated with P waves. This work introduces a new algorithm for the detection of P waves for this type of pathology using non-invasive electrocardiographic surface leads. The proposed algorithm is divided into three stages. In the first stage, the R waves located by a QRS detector are used to generate the RR series and time references for the other stages of the algorithm. In the second stage, the ventricular activity (QT segment) is removed by using an adaptive filter that obtains an averaged pattern of the QT segment. In the third stage, a new P wave detector is applied to the residual signal obtained after QT cancellation in order to detect P wave locations and get the PP time series.
