The purpose of this work was the fabrication of a conductive carbon nanotube (CNT) ink. The proposed CNT ink remained remarkably stable over several months. The method includes combining the covalent and non-covalent functionalization, resulting in ink that exhibits excellent storage stability. The covalent functionalization was performed in the acid medium using H2SO4and HNO3, while the non-covalent functionalization used sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and ultrasonication. The materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electro-chemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). FTIR and SEM confirmed that at the non-covalent functionalization, SDS was successfully adsorbed on the f-CNT surface, while at the covalent functionalization, the functional groups (-COOH, C=O and -OH) were inserted into the CNT surface. Voltammetry and EIS indicated that SDS in the presence of functional groups facilitates electron transferby improved electrical conductivity. The final product was a well-dispersed CNT ink with an average ohmic resistance of 18.62 kΩ. This indicates that CNT ink can be used in the fabrication of electrochemical sensors

Accessibility Evaluation of E-Government Mobile Applications in Brazil

AbstractThe provision of e-government services using mobile applications (known as m-government) has had a significant growth in recent years. However, it is very important that such applications be accessible to people with disabilities in order to ensure inclusive access. Using appropriate accessibility auditing methods is very important to help identify accessibility problems in interactive systems during their development. However, there has been little support in terms of formal standard accessibility guidelines to help develop and evaluate mobile applications. In this paper, we present a case study with the evaluation of four e-government mobile applications in Brazil using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. The paper discusses the methodological adaptations of WCAG 2.0 for the context of mobile applications and its current limitations. The results of the evaluations performed in the four applications in the case study showed that many elementary accessibility problems widely known by HCI researchers were encountered extensively in the applications evaluated. This highlights the importance of furthering research in accessibility design and evaluation of mobile applications, in order to provide more inclusive access to essential applications used by all citizens, such as e-government services

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Transposable elements (TEs) are mobile genetic elements present in almost all eukaryotic genomes. Due to their typical patterns of repetition, discovery, and characterization, they demand analysis by various bioinformatics software. Probably, as a result of the need for a complex analysis, many genomes publicly available do not have these elements annotated yet. In this study, a de novo and homology-based identification of TEs and microsatellites was performed using genomic data from 3 palm species: Elaeis oleifera (American oil palm, v.1, Embrapa, unpublished; v.8, Malaysian Palm Oil Board [MPOB], public), Elaeis guineensis (African oil palm, v. 5, MPOB, public), and Phoenix dactylifera (date palm). The estimated total coverage of TEs was 50.96% (523 572 kb) and 42.31% (593 463 kb), 39.41% (605 015 kb), and 33.67% (187 361 kb), respectively. A total of 155 726 microsatellite loci were identified in the genomes of oil and date palms. This is the first detailed description of repeats in the genomes of oil and date palms. A relatively high diversity and abundance of TEs were found in the genomes, opening a range of further opportunities for applied research in these genera. The development of molecular markers (mainly simple sequence repeat), which may be immediately applied in breeding programs of those species to support the selection of superior genotypes and to enhance knowledge of the genetic structure of the breeding and natural populations, is the most notable opportunity.11JAFF by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES)Foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil via the Graduate Program in Plant Biotechnology, Federal University of Lavras (UFLA)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Rationale: 2,4,6-Tris(4-formylphenyl)boroxine (TFPB) is a substituted boroxine containing a benzaldehyde molecule bonded to each boron atom. Boroxine cages are an emerging class of functional nanostructures used in host–guest chemistry, and benzaldehyde is a potential radiosensitizer. Reactions initiated by low-energy electrons with such complexes may dictate and bring new fundamental knowledge for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. Methods: The electron ionization properties of TFPB are investigated using a gas-phase electron–molecule crossed beam apparatus coupled with a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer in an orthogonal geometry. Ionization and threshold energies are experimentally determined by mass spectra acquisition as a function of the electron energy. Results: The abundance of the molecular precursor cation in the mass spectrum at 70 eV is significantly lower than that of the most abundant fragment C7H5O+. Twenty-nine cationic fragments with relative intensities >2% are detected and identified. The appearance energies of six fragment cations are reported, and the experimental first ionization potential is found at (Formula presented.) eV. Moreover, eight double cations are identified. The present results are supported by quantum chemical calculations based on bound state techniques, electron ionization models and thermodynamic thresholds. Conclusions: According to these results, the TPFB properties may combine the potential radiosensitizer effect of benzaldehyde with the stability of the boroxine ring.publishersversionpublishe

Uso e Ocupação da Terra no Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra: uma Análise a Partir da Regularização Fundiária

    Get PDF
The aim of this work is to present an account of the Serra da Canastra National Park (SCNP), aligned with the territorial disputes and the current use and occupation of land in this area, mainly due to the land regularization of this Conservation Unit  since 2010. Methodology was based on bibliographical/documentary analysis, on Geotechnologies (Remote Sensing and Geoprocessing) and fieldwork for understanding land cover and land use in the SCNP (regulated and non-regulated area). This research showed how contradictory the current land scenario of Serra da Canastra National Park regulation is. In a spatio-temporal line, different territorial disputes are verified, as consequence of the historical "land contradiction", which reflects directly on peasants’ life territorialized in this not regularized area of the Park. In another moment of the research, it is possible to infer that the peasants, who are mainly in the South part of the Park, maintain a land use anchored in a singular model of life, supported by a management that allows the current levels of conservation of the natural resources, in similar conditions to the Park of 71 thousand hectares. However, among the contradictions detected between the ICMBio and the legal strategies for territorial consolidation of this CU, there is a clear alliance between conservation-mining-agribusiness to expropriate the peasants, aiming to legitimize a Park, whose historical origins already reveal the violence of environmental conservation without people
