Vibrafone: laboratório tímbrico para compositores e intérpretes

O artigo aborda questões práticas relativas à performance musical no vibrafone. Conceitos técnicos para a execução do repertório destinado a esse instrumento, geralmente transmitidos via tradição oral, são aqui ilustrados e formalizados afim de se estabelecer um critério mínimo na bibliografia especializada em performance musical. Para isso são utilizados exemplos musicais extraídos de obras consagradas no cenário musical contemporâneo. Este trabalho poderá servir como ferramenta para o desenvolvimento pedagógico e artístico de percussionistas e compositores. Palavras-Chave: Vibrafone – Performance Musical – Exploração Tímbric

Exploração tímbrica no vibrafone : análise interpretativa da obra Cálculo secreto, de José Manuel López López

Mestrado em MúsicaEste trabalho discorre sobre o vibrafone enquanto instrumento utilizado na música erudita contemporânea do século XX. Faz-se um panorama elucidativo sobre a sua origem e o desenvolvimento de seu repertório na música erudita. Em seguida, uma abordagem sobre meios de exploração tímbrica sobre o instrumento e, finalmente, uma análise técnica e estilística a respeito da obra Cálculo Secreto, de José Manuel López López. Esta dissertação contribui para o enriquecimento das informações existentes em língua portuguesa dedicadas à música contemporânea, onde existe uma escassez relacionada ao vibrafone em específico. ABSTRACT: This work is centred on the vibraphone as an instrument utilized in contemporary music since the XX century. It starts with an elucidative panorama about the vibraphone's origin and the development of its repertory. Next follows an approach about timbre exploration with the vibraphone and finally a technical and stylistic analysis of López López's work Cálculo Secreto, for solo vibraphone. This dissertation hopes to help for the enrichment of Portuguese language information dedicated to contemporary music, a field in which we lack such specific knowledge especially related to the vibraphone

O gesto na performance em percussão - uma abordagem sensorial e performativa

Doutoramento em MúsicaO presente trabalho discute o gesto na performance em percussão e sua influência sobre as sensações de continuidade, suspensão e conclusão de um trecho musical. Conceitos de gesto utilizados em música e dança foram observados e redimensionados para a execução instrumental percussiva. Três abordagens distintas sobre o gesto na performance percussiva (Gesto Percussivo, Gesto Percussivo Interpretativo e Gesto Percussivo Expressivo) foram realizadas com a intenção de se gerarem mecanismos e ferramentas técnicas, interpretativas e expressivas para o fazer musical do intérprete percussionista. Através de um experimento que teve como objetivo captar sensações de continuidade, suspensão e conclusão de um indivíduo sobre uma performance musical percussiva, foi possível constatar como o movimento corporal age de forma influente sobre as informações musicais passadas pelo intérprete ao espectador.The present work discusses the gesture in percussion performance and its influence on the sensation of continuity, suspension and conclusion in a musical passage. Gestures concepts used in music and dance were observed and resized to the percussive instrumental execution. Three distinct approaches on the gesture in percussion performance (Percussive Gesture, Interpretative Percussive Gesture and Expressive Percussive Gesture) were realized with the intention of generate technical, interpretative and expressive mechanisms and tools to the music making of the percussionist Through an experiment that aimed to capture the sensations of continuity, suspension and conclusion of an individual/subject in a musical passage, it was possible to ascertain how the bodily motion interacts in influent manner upon the musical information past by the interpreter to the audience

Development and Construction of a Crotales Dampening System by Pedal - SACRO2020

Ao nos depararmos com o repertório percussivo que contempla obras com o instrumento crotales percebemos que, em muitos casos, as possibilidades de sua expressividade musical não são de todo exploradas. Um desses fatores se deve a falta de implementação do uso do pedal para gerar fraseados distintos com os crotales. Ao revisarmos mecanismos de abafamento desse instrumento foi observado que os mesmos apenas atendem a marcas específicas, limitando a sua utilização. Acreditando tratar-se esse um fator determinante para que compositores e intérpretes não façam uso desse artificio, propomos aqui o desenvolvimento e construção de um protótipo abafador de crotales universal, capaz de atender a qualquer modelo no mercado. Além de revisão sobre obras musicais foram também visitados depósitos de patentes. O projeto contou com uma equipe multidiscplinar, utilizando softwares de design e prototipagem rápida, dando origem ao Sistema de Abafamento de Crotales por Pedal - SACRO-2020. Esperamos contribuir para a comunidade musical, proporcionando um sistema que possa ser utilizado por qualquer local/performer que possua crotales.When we come across the percussive repertoire that contemplates works with the crotales instrument we realize that, in many cases, the possibilities of its musical expressiveness are not explored at all. One of these factors is due to the lack of implementation of the use of the pedal to generate distinctive phrases with crotales. When we reviewed dampening mechanisms for crotales it was observed that they only meet specific marks, limiting their use. Believing that this is a determining factor for composers and performers not to use this artifice, we propose here the development and construction of a prototype of a universal crotale damper, able to fit any crotale on the market. Besides the review on musical works, patent deposits were also visited. The project had a multidisciplinary team, using design software and rapid prototyping, giving rise to the Dampening Crotales System by Pedal - SACRO-2020. We hope to contribute to the musical community, providing a system that can be used by any place/performer that has crotales

Louis de Broglie’s discussion on the equivalence between relativistic principles of entropy maximization and least action

In the present work we present a didactic reconstruction of de Broglie’s demonstration of the equivalence between two fundamental physical concepts: action minimization and entropy maximization. The demonstration was first developed in de Broglie’s Thermodynamics of the Isolated Particle (an attempt to develop a causal interpretation of Quantum Theory in the 1960s). In this work, de Broglie argues from a particle in a hypothetical sub-quantum medium, which operates as a kind of hidden thermostat exchanging energy with the particle. In the discussion about the action minimization and entropy maximization, however, there is not any reference to the quantum nature of the system. So, it is a demonstration valid for any system in a thermal bath in some usual thermostat. Louis de Broglie concludes that the “natural” trajectory of a particle is not only the one that minimizes the action of the particle but also maximizes the entropy of the thermostat. Our objective is to reconstruct and restructure de Broglie’s original demonstration in order to rescue an historical debate, that has not been addressed in the literature, and that is of interest to contemporary fields such as non-equilibrium thermodynamics

Desenvolvimento e Construção do Sistema de Controle de Esteira por Pedal - SICESP2020

O repertório escrito para percussão requer, em diversas obras, a exploração sonora da caixa-clara através do ato de ‘ligar’ e ‘desligar’ a esteira. Não poucas vezes, essas ações exigem do performer de forma concomitante velocidade, sutileza e precisão o que acaba, pela dificuldade em se combinar esses pontos, trazendo prejuízos à performance (ruídos indesejados, gestos exagerados, oscilação do pulso etc.). Visando auxiliar o percussionista, propomos aqui um mecanismo que permite o controle de ativação da esteira de caixa através dos pés, resguardando assim as mãos para a performance. Através de uma revisão de repertório apontamos algumas obras que onde esse problema é recorrente. Revisamos também patentes e marcas registradas sobre automáticos e mecanismos de esteira. Para o desenvolvimento do projeto utilizamos softwares de design em 3D. Pretende-se assim contribuir para o melhoramento da performance percussiva bem como abrir novos caminhos para a composição e interpretação de obras inéditas que incluam a caixa-clara em seu instrumental

The repertoire written for percussion requires, in several works, the sonic exploration of the snare-drum through the act of "turning on/off" the snare. Not rarely, these actions demand concomitant speed, subtlety and precision from the performer, which ends up, due to the difficulty in combining these points, bringing damages to the performance (unwanted noises, exaggerated gestures, beat oscillation, etc.). In order to help the percussionist, we propose here a mechanism that makes it possible to control the activation of the snare through the feet, thus allowing the hands to be focused only on the performance. Through a repertoire review, we point out some works where this problem is recurrent. We also reviewed patents and registered brands about snare mechanisms. For the project development we used 3D design software. Clinical Presentation and Short- and Long-term Outcomes in Patients With Isolated Distal Deep Vein Thrombosis vs Proximal Deep Vein Thrombosis in the RIETE Registry

International audienceImportance: Insufficient data exist about the clinical presentation, short-term, and long-term outcomes of patients with isolated distal deep vein thrombosis (IDDVT), that is, thrombosis in infrapopliteal veins without proximal extension or pulmonary embolism (PE).Objective: To determine the clinical characteristics, short-term, and 1-year outcomes in patients with IDDVT and to compare the outcomes in unadjusted and multivariable adjusted analyses with patients who had proximal DVT.Design, setting, and participants: This was a multicenter, international cohort study in participating sites of the Registro Informatizado Enfermedad Tromboembólica (RIETE) registry conducted from March 1, 2001, through February 28, 2021. Patients included in this study had IDDVT. Patients with proximal DVT were identified for comparison. Patients were excluded if they had a history of asymptomatic DVT, upper-extremity DVT, coexisting PE, or COVID-19 infection.Main outcomes and measures: Primary outcomes were 90-day and 1-year mortality, 1-year major bleeding, and 1-year venous thromboembolism (VTE) deterioration, which was defined as subsequent development of proximal DVT or PE.Results: A total of 33 897 patients were identified with isolated DVT (without concomitant PE); 5938 (17.5%) had IDDVT (mean [SD] age, 61 [17] years; 2975 male patients [50.1%]), and 27 959 (82.5%) had proximal DVT (mean [SD] age, 65 [18] years; 14 315 male patients [51.2%]). Compared with individuals with proximal DVT, those with IDDVT had a lower comorbidity burden but were more likely to have had recent surgery or to have received hormonal therapy. Patients with IDDVT had lower risk of 90-day mortality compared with those with proximal DVT (odds ratio [OR], 0.47; 95% CI, 0.40-0.55). Findings were similar in 1-year unadjusted analyses (hazard ratio [HR], 0.52; 95% CI, 0.46-0.59) and adjusted analyses (HR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.64-0.82). Patients with IDDVT had a lower 1-year hazard of VTE deterioration (HR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.69-0.99). In 1-year adjusted analyses of patients without an adverse event within the first 3 months, IDDVT was associated with lower risk of VTE deterioration (adjusted HR, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.24-0.97). By 1-year follow-up, symptoms or signs of postthrombotic syndrome were less common in patients with IDDVT (47.6% vs 60.5%).Conclusions and relevance: Results of this cohort study suggest that patients with IDDVT had a less ominous prognosis compared with patients with proximal DVT. Such differences were likely multifactorial, including the differences in demographics, risk factors, comorbidities, particularly for all-cause mortality, and a potential association of thrombus location with VTE deterioration and postthrombotic syndrome. Randomized clinical trials are needed to assess the optimal long-term management of IDDVT
