"KEYNESIANS", MONETARISTS, NEW CLASSICALS AND NEW KEYNESIANS: A POST KEYNESIAN CRITIQUE

Este artigo apresenta urna resenha das principais Interpretações teóricas ortodoxas da "Teoria Geral" e das concepções monetarista e novo-clássica, criticas às idéias de Keynes contidas na referida obra. Procura-se também mostrar, à luz da teoria pós-keynesiana, que essas interpretações e críticas apresentam inconsistências lógicas quando confrontadas com a estrutura teórico-analitica de Keynes e não representam as características da dinâmica das economias empresariais modernas.This article aims at presenting briefly a survey of main orthodox theoretical interpretations and criticisms of Keynes ideas that have become embedded in theoretical discussions on macroeconomic theory. Secondly, this article explains why, according to the post Keynesian view, most accepted theoretical interpretations and criticisms of Keynesian Theory (a) involve logical Inconsistencies when compared with Keynes's theoretical analytical structure and (b) misrepresent the dynamic characteristics of modern entrepreneurial economies

"Inflation Targeting in Brazil"

The purpose of this paper is to examine inflation targeting (IT) in emerging countries by concentrating essentially on the case of Brazil. The IT monetary policy regime has been adopted by a significant number of countries. While the focus of this paper is on Brazil, which began inflation targeting in 1999, we also examine the experience of other countries, both for comparative purposes and for evidence of the extent of this "new" economic policy's success. In addition, we compare the experience of Brazil with that of non-IT countries, and ask the question of whether adopting IT makes a difference in the fight against inflation.

Cooperação monetária e financeira na América do Sul: defendendo uma integração mais profunda entre os países da UNASUL

The international financial crisis and the ‘great recession’ have substantially altered the dynamic process of the international economy, as well as they brought the idea that it is necessary a substantial reform of the global finacial architecture. At the same time, the regional integration proposal became an important strategy to the development countries, especially to the South American countries. Thus, this article aims at investigating the existing mechanisms of monetary and financial cooperation in South America and questionating if they can ensure progress in regional integration. The idea is to show that, on the one hand, the UNASUR can be a consistent process of  regional integration, and, on the hand, to propose a creation of a Regional Market Maker to UNASUR to boost trade and financial relations, discipline and standardize macroeconomic policies and prevent any disruptive situation resulting from financial and exchange rate crises.A crise financeira internacional e a "grande recessão" acentuaram a assimetria que existe entre a dinâmica econômica dos países desenvolvidos e emergentes, bem como resgataram a ideia de que é necessária uma reforma significativa na arquitetura financeira global. Concomitantemente, a proposição de integração regional tornou-se uma estratégia para os países em desenvolvimento, especialmente os países da América do Sul. Neste artigo, investigaremos os mecanismos existentes de cooperação monetária e financeira na América do Sul e questionararemos se eles podem garantir o progresso da integração regional. A ideia é mostrar que, por um lado, a Unasul pode se constituir em um processo de integração regional consistente e, por outro lado, propor a criação "Regional Market Maker" para a Unasul com o intuito de impulsionar as relações comerciais e financeiras, disciplinar e padronizar as políticas macroeconômicas e evitar quaisquer situações de ruptura decorrente de crises financeiras e cambiais

Por que os resultados econômicos esperados para o final do governo Lula da Silva não nos asseguram uma estabilidade macroeconômica consistente?

O breve artigo objetiva mostrar que, a despeito de alguns indicadores econômicos auspiciosos observados no último ano do governo Lula da Silva, tais como PIB, taxa de desemprego etc, a economia brasileira ainda encontra-se longe de uma trajetória de estabilidade macroeconômica, entendida como inflação sob controle, crescimento econômico robusto e equilíbrio externo

Como era de se esperar, a crise internacional chegou ao Brasil. E agora, o que fazer para mitigarmos os impactos da crise em 2009 e retomarmos o rumo do crescimento em 2010?

O presente texto objetiva, por um lado, mostrar que a economia brasileira não conseguiu descolar-se dos efeitos da crise internacional e, por outro, sinalizar um conjunto de medidas para que os impactos da referida crise sobre a economia brasileira possam ser mitigados e, por conseguinte, ela possa retomar sua trajetória de crescimento o mais rápido possível
