    Application of edible alginate films with pineapple peel active compounds on beef meat preservation

    Alginate-based edible films containing natural antioxidants from pineapple peel were applied in the microbial spoilage control, color preservation, and barrier to lipid oxidation of beef steaks under storage at 4 C for five days. Di erent stabilization methods of pineapple peel compounds were used before incorporation into alginate films, including extracted compounds with an hydroalcoholic solvent encapsulated in microparticles, microparticles produced by spray-drying pineapple peel juice, and particles obtained by milling freeze dried pineapple peel. Bioactive films exhibited higher antioxidant activity (between 0.15 mol to 0.35 mol FeSO4.7H2O/g dried film) than the alginate film without these compounds (0.02 mol FeSO4.7H2O/g dried film). Results showed that control films without active compounds had no significant e ect on decreasing the microbial load of aerobic mesophilic and Pseudomonas spp., while the films containing encapsulated hydroalcoholic extract showed a significant inhibitory e ect on microbial growth of meat at two days of storage. Alginate films containing peel encapsulated extract were e ective for maintaining the color hue and intensity of red beef meat samples.     Current nursing education considering southern europe’s reality and legal framework: a two-phased research approach

    Nursing education and formation is still heterogenous in spite of The Bologna Declaration in 1999. Apart from the existence of basic curriculum standards, universities have flexibility regarding its design. The objective of this study is to provide an overview of contemporary nursing education and contrast it with the legal frameworks in place in four Southern European countries: Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece. A scoping review was conducted in order to revise and obtain an up-to-date review of current nursing education and quality. Then, a content evaluation of the legal public framework was conducted. A total of nine articles were included in the review. Data analysis evoked three main themes from the results: nursing education heterogeneity owing to ECTS increased from 180 to 240 for the diversity of clinical practice hours; the nursing framework lacked a definition; and the evolution of nursing education, alongside quality improvement and more accurate guidelines were required. Regarding their legal framework, the main directives and legislation standards were assessed and compared with the current curriculum. To conclude, nursing heterogeneity education evokes competence inequality among students and future professionals as larger curricular programs (240 ECTS) offer more clinical practice. Nursing education uniformity could enhance international mobility and promote knowledge exchange and nursing competence framework definitions. These are facts that certainly bring nursing empowerment.     Efeito antibacteriano (in vitro) de Moringa oleifera (moringa) e Annona muricata (graviola) frente a bactérias Gram-negativas e Gram-positiva

    Para avaliação do efeito bactericida frente à Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli (isolada de pescados e ambiente aquático) e Salmonella Enteretidis, foram testados extratos aquosos e etanólicos de sementes de moringa (Moringa oleifera) e casca de graviola (Annona muricata) na concentração de 1:5 e 1:10, nos volumes de 50, 100, 150 e 200 µL. Os resultados mostraram efeito antibacteriano (halo de inibição >; 13mm) dos extratos aquosos e etanólicos de moringa frente a S. aureus, V. cholerae e E. coli isoladas de camarão cinza Litopenaeus vannmaei. A cepa de E. coli isolada do pescado Oreochromis niloticus apresentou sensibilidade frente ao extrato etanólico de moringa. Os extratos aquosos de graviola apresentaram efeito bactericida frente a S. aureus e V. cholerae, entretanto, os extratos etanólicos dessa planta não mostraram atividade antibacteriana.Antibacterial effects of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of seeds of moringa (Moringa oleifera) and pods of soursop (Annona muricata) in the concentration of 1:5 and 1:10 in volumes 50, 100, 150 and 200 µL were examined against Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli (isolated from the organism and the aquatic environment) and Salmonella Enteritidis. Antibacterial activity (inhibition halo >; 13 mm) against S. aureus, V. cholerae and E. coli isolated from the whiteleg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannmaei, was detected in aqueous and ethanolic extracts of moringa. E. coli isolated from tilapiafish, Oreochromis niloticus, was sensitive to the ethanolic extract of moringa. The aqueous extracts of soursop showed an antibacterial effect against S. aureus and V. cholerae, but the antibacterial activity by the ethanol extracts of this plant was not demonstrated

    Avaliação Do Estado Nutricional De Pré-Escolares De Classe Sócioeconômica Média E Baixa Da Cidade De Manaus : Estudo Comparativo

    An antropometrie study was performed in Manaus-AM, in a sample 216 pre-school children belonging to low and medium socioeconomical classes. The main goal of the study was to compare the nutritional status of this population by weight, height and age, according to the Gomez and Waterlow methods. According to the Gomez method, in the low income class 47,3% of the male and 48,3% on the females had first degree malnutrition and 3.4% on the females had second degree malnutrition. In the medium income class, 16,0% of the males and 10.4% of the female had first degree malnutrition. According to the Waterlow method modified by Batista, 3.3% of the males and 12.5% of the females had recent malnutrition in the low income class. However, in the medium income class 2.1% of the female had past and recent malnutrition. In the low income class, 3.2% of the males and 16.1%of the females presented stunding and in the medium income class only 2.1% of the females presented stunding.Estudo antropométrico foi realizado com 216 pré-escolares pertencentes às classes sócio-econômicas baixa e média da cidade de Manaus-AM. O intuíto do trabalho foi verificar, por meio de uma análise comparativa, o estado nutricional de crianças pertencentes às famílias destas classes. O método antropométrico utilizado foi a determinação de peso, altura e idade, usando-se a classificação de Gomez, Waterlow & Waterlow com modificação de Batista. Feia classificação de Gomez, as crianças de Manaus pertencentes a classe baixa, apresentaram desnutrição de 1ograu, sendo (47,5%) do sexo masculino, (48,3%) do sexo feminino e 3,4% do sexo feminino desnutridos de 2° grau. Na classe média (16,0%) das meninas, apresentaram desnutrição de 1ograu. Utilizando a classificação de Waterlow com a terminologia de Batista, na classe de renda baixa 3,3% dos meninos e 12,5% das meninas apresentaram desnutrição, enquanto que, na classe sócio-econômica média, somente nas meninas (2,1%) encontrou-se desnutrição recente. De acordo com a classificação de Waterlow, na classe sócio-econòmica baixa em 3,2% dos meninos e em 16,1% das meninas foi constatado nanismo e na classe média somente 2,1% das meninas

    Delignification of Cistus ladanifer biomass by organosolv and alkali processes

    Residues of Cistus ladanifer obtained after commercial steam distillation for essential oil production were evaluated to produce cellulose enriched solids and added-value lignin-derived compounds. The delignification of extracted (CLRext) and extracted and hydrothermally pretreated biomass (CLRtreat) was studied using two organosolv processes, ethanol/water mixtures (EO), and alkali-catalyzed glycerol (AGO), and by an alkali (sodium hydroxide) process (ASP) under different reaction conditions. The phenolic composition of soluble lignin was determined by capillary zone electrophoresis and by Py-GC/MS, which was also used to establish the monomeric composition of both the delignified solids and isolated lignin. The enzymatic saccharification of the delignified solids was also evaluated. The ASP (4% NaOH, 2 h) lead to both the highest delignification and enzymatic saccharification (87% and 79%, respectively). A delignification of 76% and enzymatic hydrolysis yields of 72% were obtained for AGO (4% NaOH) while EO processes led to lower delignification (maximum lignin removal 29%). The residual lignin in the delignified solids were enriched in Gand H-units, with S-units being preferentially removed. The main phenolics present in the ASP and AGO liquors were vanillic acid and epicatechin, while gallic acid was the main phenolic in the EO liquors.     OBJETIVO: Descrever e discutir a vivência das mães na realidade de ter um filho com câncer. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada em uma Casa de Apoio à Criança com Câncer, tendo como sujeitos 11 mães, na faixa etária de 22 a 55 anos, que acompanhavam seus filhos em tratamento oncológico. A coleta dos dados ocorreu por meio de entrevista semi-estruturada, com análise temática. RESULTADOS: Evidenciaram-se as principais dificuldades vivenciadas pelas mães diante do adoecer e do processo de hospitalização do filho. CONCLUSÃO: Percebeu-se que o câncer, devido às mudanças e privações que acarretam na vida afetiva, social e familiar da mãe, desencadeia um intenso sofrimento.DESCRITORES: Sentimentos; câncer; mães

    Electrochromic device composed of a Di-Urethanesil electrolyte incorporating lithium triflate and 1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium chloride

    A di-urethane cross-linked poly(oxyethylene)/silica hybrid matrix [di-urethanesil, d-Ut(600)], synthesized by the sol-gel process, was doped with lithium triflate (LiCF3SO3) and the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) ionic liquid. The as-produced xerogel film is amorphous, transparent, flexible, homogeneous, hydrophilic, and has low nanoscale surface roughness. It exhibits an ionic conductivity of 3.64 x 10(-6) and 5.00 x 10(-4) S cm(-1) at 21 and 100 degrees C, respectively. This material was successfully tested as electrolyte in an electrochromic device (ECD) with the glass/ITO/a-WO3/d-Ut(600)(10)LiCF3SO3[Bmim]Cl/c-NiO/ITO/glass configuration, where a-WO3 and c-NiO stand for amorphous tungsten oxide and crystalline nickel oxide, respectively.     State of the art in the use of bioceramics to elaborate 3D structures using robocasting

    Robocasting, também conhecido como Direct Ink Writing, é uma técnica de fabricação aditiva (AM), que inclui extração direta de sistemas coloidais, que consiste na exposição de camadas e um controlador controlado por computador de uma mídia altamente concentrada nesta extrusão. Este artigo apresenta uma visão geral das contribuições e desafios no desenvolvimento de biomateriais cerâmicos tridimensionais (3D) por esse método de impressão. O estado da arte em diferentes biocerâmicas como alumina, zircônia, fosfato de vidro, vidro / vitrocerâmica e compostos é avaliado e discutido em relação a suas aplicações e comportamento biológico, em uma pesquisa que produziu desde uma produção de próteses dentárias personalizadas a biofabricantes 3D humanos tecidos.Embora o robocasting represente uma interrupção na fabricação de estruturas porosas, como os andaimes para a Engenharia de Tecidos (TE), muitas vantagens ainda são necessárias, mas ainda são divulgadas, essa técnica já está usando a utilização de peças densas. Assim, são necessárias estratégias para a fabricação de biocerâmica densificada, com o objetivo de ampliar as possibilidades dessa técnica de AM. As vantagens e desvantagens e também perspectivas futuras da aplicação do robocasting no processamento biocerâmico também são exploradas
