    Na proximidade do século XXI, a Escola Portuguesa vive momentos de incerteza, de preocupação e desafio face ao futuro. Estamos perante uma sociedade que não se compadece com uma escola parada no tempo, mas, sim, exige uma escola activa, dinâmica e aberta ao meio. Pretende-se uma escola que desenvolva uma cultura de participação1, que saiba partilhar a educação com a família (principal entidade, responsável pela educação), com os trabalhadores não docentes, com a comunidade envolvente e assim todos possam contribuir para o desenvolvimento pleno e harmonioso da personalidade dos indivíduos, tornando-os cidadãos mais responsáveis e livres na sociedade. É este tipo de escola que é preconizada pela Lei de Bases (Lei nº46 / 86, de 14 de Outubro) e que exige uma mudança do Sistema Tradicional de Ensino. Por isso, a escola de hoje exige novas posturas, novas responsabilidades de todos os que nela intervêm e contribuem para uma melhoria do ensino, quer sejam professores, pais ou outros. Mas, o papel do professor, como principal impulsionador e dinamizador, é e será determinante para o sucesso de qualquer reforma do sistema educativo. O professor assume o papel primordial de dinamizador de participação e de mobilização de todos os outros intervenientes, no sentido de os levar a darem o seu contributo e a assumirem a sua cota parte de responsabilidade na educação, para que a escola possa realizar os seus objectivos. A escola é um local onde se trocam experiências, onde todos os que aí participam vivem um pouco ou grande parte da sua vida. Por isso, é imprescindível que cada um se sinta parte integrante dela. Assim, abordaremos a escola como um espaço de interacção, bem como as formas de participação dos seus intervenientes. Porque compreender a acção dos que fazem a escola leva-nos a conhecer os estatutos de cada membro e os papéis a eles associados, as normas organizacionais que orientam a interacção e o contributo de cada um para a prossecução das actividades. É na conjugação destes factores que se definem as formas de cada um estar na escola

    Quantitative Proteomic Analysis Reveals Changes in the Benchmark Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis Biovar Equi Exoproteome after Passage in a Murine Host

    Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis biovar equi is the etiologic agent of ulcerative lymphangitis. To investigate proteins that could be related to the virulence of this pathogen, we combined an experimental passage process using a murine model and high-throughput proteomics with a mass spectrometry, data-independent acquisition (LC-MSE) approach to identify and quantify the proteins released into the supernatants of strain 258_equi. To our knowledge, this approach allowed characterization of the exoproteome of a C. pseudotuberculosis equi strain for the first time. Interestingly, the recovery of this strain from infected mouse spleens induced a change in its virulence potential, and it became more virulent in a second infection challenge. Proteomic screening performed from culture supernatant of the control and recovered conditions revealed 104 proteins that were differentially expressed between the two conditions. In this context, proteomic analysis of the recovered condition detected the induction of proteins involved in bacterial pathogenesis, mainly related to iron uptake. In addition, KEGG enrichment analysis showed that ABC transporters, bacterial secretion systems and protein export pathways were significantly altered in the recovered condition. These findings show that secretion and secreted proteins are key elements in the virulence and adaptation of C. pseudotuberculosis. Collectively, bacterial pathogenesis-related proteins were identified that contribute to the processes of adherence, intracellular growth and evasion of the immune system.     "As cores da Química": Uma Proposta para Contextualizar e Introduzir Conhecimentos Químicos no Ensino Fundamental

    Este trabalho discute os resultados da aplicação de um projeto de ensino intitulado “As cores da Química”, que foi desenvolvido por acadêmicas do curso de licenciatura em Química. O projeto priorizou uma abordagem contextualizada para introduzir conhecimentos químicos no ensino fundamental e configurou-se como um momento oportuno de formação para a docência, no que tange o planejamento e execução de uma proposta alternativa de ensino, que se opõe ao paradigma tradicional e busca dar significado aos conhecimentos científicos por meio de uma temática cotidiana. Os pigmentos e as tintas permitiram abordar diversos conteúdos químicos, tais como substâncias simples e compostas, reações químicas e solubilidade. Os resultados da aplicação denotam o potencial da temática escolhida para a construção de conhecimentos químicos, bem como para o desenvolvimento do interesse e motivação dos alunos em aprender sobre química

    The association between cardiovascular risk factors and major cardiovascular diseases decreases with increasing frailty levels in geriatric outpatients

    BACKGROUND: Frailty marks a process of increasing dysregulation of physiological systems which increases the risk of adverse health outcomes. This study examines the hypothesis that the association between multiple cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) becomes stronger with increasing frailty severity. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of 339 older adults (55.2% women; aged 75.2 ± 9.1 years) from an outpatient geriatric clinic from a middle-income country. The frailty index (FI) was calculated as the proportion of 30 possible health deficits. We assessed hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, sedentarism and smoking as CVRF (determinants) and myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure as CVD. Poisson regression models adjusted for age, sex, and education was applied to estimate the association between frailty as well as CVRF (independent variables) with CVD (dependent variable). RESULTS: Of the 339 patients, 18,3% were frail (FI ≥ 0.25) and 32.7% had at least one CVD. Both frailty and CVRF were significantly associated with CVD (PR = 1.03, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.05; p = 0.001, and PR = 1.46, 95% 1.24 to 1.71; p < 0.001, respectively) adjusted for covariates. The strength of the association between CVRF and CVD decreased with increasing frailty levels, as indicated by a significant interaction term of frailty and CVRF (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Frailty and CVRF are both associated with CVD, but the impact of CVRF decreases in the presence of frailty. When confirmed in longitudinal studies, randomized controlled trials or causal inference methods like Mendelian randomization should be applied to assess whether a shift from traditional CVRF to frailty would improve cardiovascular outcome in the oldest old

    Glycemic index and glycemic response of corn starch porridge with addition of oats, flaxseed or soluble fiber isolated

    Indexación: ScopusIntroduction: Fibers are commonly known to contribute in the improvement of glycemic and lipid profile, exerting a beneficial effect on health, but its effect on the glycemic index of food is still controversial. Objective: To evaluate the effect of adding high-fiber foods (oats and flaxseed) and a supplement of soluble fiber isolated on the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic response of a porridge of corn starch. Methodology: The study was of crossover, where six healthy subjects ingested preparations based on a maize porridge added to different foods rich in fiber, the GI of the preparations was calculated according to the methodology of FAO. Results: The preparation of linseed added resulting in a lesser glycemic response times 45-90 min and with the addition of oat preparation showed the best results at times 60 and 90 minutes. The mean area under the curve of the glycemic response and GI of the preparations did not differ. Conclusion: Oatmeal linseed seem foods with beneficial properties reduce the glycemic response to food.http://revista.nutricion.org/revista.asp?id=4

    Fatigue Effects in Daily Life Activities of Kidney Transplant Recipients

    After undergoing kidney transplantation, some patients still face one symptom that continues after the dialysis sessions: fatigue (physical and mental tiredness that does not get better after resting). Fatigue effects in the everyday lives of kidney transplant patients can be beneficially modified early by changing this scenario. This is a quantitative study about the intensity and impacts of fatigue in kidney transplant patients admitted to the Hypertension and Kidney Hospital from October 2011 to March 2012. the fatigue pictogram was used to evaluate the level of fatigue interference in the daily life activities of kidney transplant patients. the sample consists of 39 patients, and was developed in 2 phases: data collection and attendance after and before the transplantation until hospital discharge. Descriptive statistical analyses were used. in the group at issue, we have noticed the following profile of the sample: 84.3% of transplantations with live donors, most were men, average age 36.5 years old, average hospitalization time 11.1 days, average time of renal failure 66.4 months, systemic arterial hypertension prevalence 66.7%, and the prevalence of at least 1.8 diseases in each individual. the self-referred causes of chronic renal failure were uncontrolled systemic arterial hypertension, glomerulonephritis, and overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs, among others. the study shows that fatigue is directly related to the level of activities of daily living, causing less ability to perform activities in the higher level of fatigue, which is in the immediate postoperative period and only settling fully on the 9th postoperative day.Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Nursing Sch São Paulo, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Kidney & Hypertens Hosp, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Nursing Sch São Paulo, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Kidney & Hypertens Hosp, São Paulo, BrazilWeb of Scienc
