Speech in Extremadura. Pieces of research on morphosyntax and regional lexicon
En este trabajo se realizará una revisión bibliográfica comentada de los principales estudios presentados hasta la actualidad sobre el habla en Extremadura. Más concretamente, nos centraremos en las investigaciones que desde hace más de un siglo se han presentado sobre la morfosintaxis y el léxico regional que permitan, primero, revelar la importancia de los estudios sobre el extremeño hasta la actualidad y, segundo, atestiguar los trabajos más importantes realizados hasta hoy sobre el habla regional.In this research paper a bibliographic review of the most important studies of speech in Extremadura is presented. More specifically, we will focus on the studies about morphosyntax and regional lexicon that have been made about Extremadura over the last century. Such an approach will reveal the importance of studies about extremeño so far carried out. Furthermore, the most representative pieces of research about regional speech will be disclosed.peerReviewe
Scientific research in the speech of Extremadura: dialect monographs and extremnian studies of phonetics and phonology
Desde las últimas décadas del siglo XIX, el interés científico por analizar las peculiaridades lingüísticas de Extremadura ha sido puesto de manifiesto en más de un centenar de estudios sobre la configuración lingüística del extremeño. Ante la esperada llegada del Atlas lingüístico y Etnográfico de Extremadura, son muchas las investigaciones que contribuyen al conocimiento de los rasgos más representativos de esta variedad lingüística, bien a través de monografías sobre ciertas localidades concretas, bien en trabajos de conjunto que permiten conocer los rasgos más representativos la región. En este artículo se presentará una revisión bibliográfica de las investigaciones realizadas sobre el habla en Extremadura y sobre los estudios de fonética y fonología de la variedad lingüística regional.Since the last decades of the nineteenth century, scientific interest to analyze the linguistic peculiarities of Extremadura has appeared in over a hundred studies on the linguistic configuration of extremeño. To the expected arrival of linguistic and Ethnographic Atlas of Extremadura, there are many researches that contribute to meet the most representative features of this variety of language, whether through monographs on some specific towns or in general works that show the most representative features of this peculiar language. In this paper a review of research on speech in Extremadura will be presented and also, more specifically, the studies of phonetics and phonology of the regional language variety.peerReviewe
«El Pacto Andaluz por la Naturaleza» (1985). La confluencia del movimiento campesino y el movimiento ecologista.
En los últimos años se ha desarrollado un importante debate en la Historia Ambiental acerca de lar elación entre campesinado y ecologismo, especialmente a partir de la propuesta de Guha y Martínez Alier (1997) de un Ecologismo Popular y de las críticas al mismo. En este artículo pretendemos profundizar en estas ideas a partir del análisis de la gestación y desarrollo de una de las primeras iniciativas del movimiento ecologista en España, e lPacto Andaluz por la Naturaleza, de 1985-1986.Esta iniciativa surgió de la confluencia de numerosas organizaciones ecologistas con el movimiento jornalero que representaba el Sindicato de Obreros del Campo (SOC) en la defensa de una gestión sostenible del bosque. Estas movilizaciones tuvieron como resultado la aprobación del Plan Forestal Andaluz en 1989 y la introducción, por la vía de la reclamación de mayor empleo, de valores ecologistas que venían a superar las concepciones conservacionistas hasta entonces asociadas con el ambientalismo. Esta es la historia de la confluencia entre un viejo movimiento en vías de extinción, el movimiento jornalero, y un nuevo movimiento social, el ecologista. El resultado es un buen ejemplo de la complejidad y capacidad de transformación del conflicto social.In recent years there has been an intensive debate on the relationship between peasantry and environmentalism in Environmental History. The starting point was the controversial definition of Popular Environmentalism by Ramachandra Guha and Martínez Alier (1997). In the present article we focus on these ideas through the analysis of a specific social movement, the «Andalusian Agreement for Nature» (Pacto Andaluz por la Naturaleza, 1985/1986), one of the first expressions of the Spanish green movement. The interesting feature lies in its origin. This green movement, claiming for a new sustainable use of forests, arose from the confluence of several
environmentalist organizations and the traditional Peasant Union (Sindicato de Obreros del Campo). The struggles achieved a new Forest Policy (1989) adopted by the regional
government, introducing new ecological values in the population beyond the traditional
conservationist conception of environmentalism.This is the history of the confluence of an Old Social Movement, the peasant movement, and a New Social Movement, the green one. We consider this to be a good example for understanding the complexity and the auto‐transformation capacity of the social conflict
La protesta campesina como protesta ambiental, siglos XVIII-XX
This article analyses peasant conflicts from an environmental perspective. First, we show a general theory about environmental conflicts making a clear differentiation among environmental conflicts making a clear differentiation among environmental, environmentalist and green movement conflicts. This differentiation is accomplished using as criterion the goals of the actors in relation to both the agroecosystems sustainability and the types of discourses used in the protests. Second, we analyse the peasant use of agroecosystems and the differences between agricultural systems based on organic energy in contrast with those based on fossil energy. Finally, we identify several types of peasant environmental conflicts between 18th and 20th centuries: environmental peasant protests in Mediterranean Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa; conflicts produced around resources like water, common goods or against pollution, Land Reform, reactions to environmental policies or defence of indigenous territories. As these examples show, attention must be paid to the environmental dimension of the peasant protest in order to understand the conflicts, although sometimes mixed with gender and class dimensions
The ‘subaltern’ foreign policies of North African countries: old and new responses to economic dependence, regional insecurity and domestic political change

The final version is available from Taylor & Francis (Routledge)via the DOI in this record.This article introduces the special issue by explaining why researching change and continuity in the foreign policies of North African states is relevant in spite of these countries’ peripheral and ‘subaltern’ position within the global system. It situates the special issue’s content in the context of the extant academic literature on the foreign policies of dependent/Third World/Global South countries, the foreign policies of MENA states and the consequences of the 2011 Arab uprisings in terms of international relations. It then moves on to discuss the case study selection by outlining key commonalities and differences between Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt in terms of historical, political and economic foreign policy determinants. The country case studies each focus on a particular level of analysis, from the global – Tunisia’s financial predicaments and foreign debt negotiations – through the (sub)regional – Egypt’s relationship of necessity with Saudi Arabia, Algeria’s half-hearted policies towards the conflicts in Libya and Mali – to the domestic sphere – Morocco’s power balance between the monarchy and the Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD) heading the government, Libya’s extreme state weakness and internal power competition among proliferating private actors –, reaching also the deeper non-state societal level – Mauritania’s new forms of social activism questioning the official religious identity and the socio-political makeup of the state. Development of carbon fiber acrylonitrile styrene acrylate composite for large format additive manufacturing
The increasing interest of Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) technologies in various industrial sectors mainly lies on the attainable production of pieces reaching several cubic meters. These new technologies require the development of optimized materials with two-folded capabilities, able to satisfy functional in-service requirements but also showing a proper printability. Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) is among the most interesting thermoplastic materials to be implemented in a LFAM device due to its excellent wettability and mechanical properties. This research focuses on the development and characterization of ASA and carbon fiber (CF) ASA composites suitable for LFAM. The rheological, thermal and mechanical properties of neat ASA and ASA containing 20 wt% CF are addressed. The results evidence the higher performance of the CF loaded composite compared to the raw ASA polymer (i.e., the 20 wt% CF composite shows a 350% increase in flexural Young's Modulus and a 500% increment in thermal conductivity compared with neat ASA). Additionally, both materials were successfully printed along perpendicular directions (X and Z), showing the maximum tensile strain for the composite printed along the X orientation as was expected. The results of the flexural tests are comparable or slightly higher than those of injected parts. Finally, the fracture surface was analysed, identifying different types of porosity
STEM Tools for Semiconductor Characterization: Beyond High-Resolution Imaging
The smart engineering of novel semiconductor devices relies on the development of optimized functional materials suitable for the design of improved systems with advanced capabilities aside from better efficiencies. Thereby, the characterization of these materials at the highest level attainable is crucial for leading a proper understanding of their working principle. Due to the striking effect of atomic features on the behavior of semiconductor quantum- and nanostructures, scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) tools have been broadly employed for their characterization. Indeed, STEM provides a manifold characterization tool achieving insights on, not only the atomic structure and chemical composition of the analyzed materials, but also probing internal electric fields, plasmonic oscillations, light emission, band gap determination, electric field measurements, and many other properties. The emergence of new detectors and novel instrumental designs allowing the simultaneous collection of several signals render the perfect playground for the development of highly customized experiments specifically designed for the required analyses. This paper presents some of the most useful STEM techniques and several strategies and methodologies applied to address the specific analysis on semiconductors. STEM imaging, spectroscopies, 4D-STEM (in particular DPC), and in situ STEM are summarized, showing their potential use for the characterization of semiconductor nanostructured materials through recent reported studies.This work has been co-financed by the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme and by the Department of Economy, Knowledge, Business and the University of the Regional Government of Andalusia. Text and data mining activities—that is, the automated processing of digital materials to uncover new knowledge—have become more frequent in all areas of scientific research. Because they require a massive use of copyrighted work, there are evident conflicts with copyright legislation. Countries at the forefront of research and development have begun to address this issue.
This paper presents the basic aspects of legislation applicable to text and data mining activities. It offers a detailed comparative analysis of the norms of the main jurisdictions that have regulated them to date, highlighting in each case the positive and negative aspects. An adequate knowledge of these laws is not only important for researchers but also important for the academic librarians who provide advice and support in these matters
Guideline for constructing nutrient balance in historical agricultural systemes (and its application to three case-studies in southern Spain)
The purpose of this paper is to provide interested researchers with a simple tool to evaluate the efficacy of different methods of fertility replenishment that have accompanied and made possible the contemporary agriculture. We propose a nutrient balance model created especially to be applied to the past. In the first part of this working paper each term in the balance is defined and specified the information the user must input into the model. The second part of this paper reports on the application of this methodology based on the balances of nutrients to the evolution of Andalusian agriculture since the mid 18th Century. The nutrient balances show the effects of agrarian growth in an environmentally limited context, offering reasonable doubt regarding the medium and long-term stability of certain forms of cultivation. The balances show that in the last decades of the 19th Century, productive intensification had reached its ceiling, with livestock numbers levelling off or clearly declining. The deficits of nutrients even began to exceed the fertilisation capacity of the available livestock. The intensification applied in unfertilised rotations and crops had to be sustained through the extraction of soil reserves.Soil fertility management, Nutrient balances, Past organic agricultures, Agrarian growth, Socio-ecological transition, Agricultural change
