La protección de la biodiversidad marina más allá de la jurisdicción nacional: hacia un nuevo acuerdo de aplicación

[ESP] La biodiversidad marina de las zonas fuera de la jurisdicción nacional carece, en la actualidad, de un régimen de protección, conservación y uso sostenible propio, resultando aplicable la normativa de carácter general sobre protección del medio ambiente marino. Recientemente, se ha elaborado un proyecto de Acuerdo de aplicación de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Derecho del Mar de 1982, a fin de establecer un novedoso régimen de conservación y uso sostenible de estos recursos en las zonas fuera de la jurisdicción nacional. El presente estudio expone las cuestiones más relevantes sobre la gobernanza de la biodiversidad marina, la actual regulación de la misma en las zonas fuera de la jurisdicción nacional y el contenido del futuro acuerdo de aplicación.[GLG] A biodiversidade mariña das zonas fóra da xurisdición nacional carece, na actualidade, dun réxime de protección, conservación e uso sustentable propio, resultando aplicable a normativa de carácter xeral sobre protección do medio ambiente mariño. O presente estudo expón as cuestión máis relevantes sobre a gobernanza da biodiversidade mariña, a actual regulación da mesmanas zonas fóra da xurisdición nacional e o contido do futuro acordo de aplicación.[ENG] The marine biodiversity in the areas beyond national jurisdiction hasn’t got, actually, an own protection, conservation and sustainable use framework, being applicable the general regulations on protection of the marine environment. Recently, a Implementation Agreement has been drawn up to implement the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in order to create a novel regime framework for the conservation and sustainable use of these resources in the areas beyond national jurisdiction. The present analysis exposes the most relevant questions about the governance of marine biodiversity, its current regulation in areas beyondnational jurisdiction and the content of the future application agreement

Long-range regulatory interactions at the 4q25 atrial fibrillation risk locus involve PITX2c and ENPEP

This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License.-- et al.[Background]: Recent genome-wide association studies have uncovered genomic loci that underlie an increased risk for atrial fibrillation, the major cardiac arrhythmia in humans. The most significant locus is located in a gene desert at 4q25, approximately 170 kilobases upstream of PITX2, which codes for a transcription factor involved in embryonic left-right asymmetry and cardiac development. However, how this genomic region functionally and structurally relates to PITX2 and atrial fibrillation is unknown. [Results]: To characterise its function, we tested genomic fragments from 4q25 for transcriptional activity in a mouse atrial cardiomyocyte cell line and in transgenic mouse embryos, identifying a non-tissue-specific potentiator regulatory element. Chromosome conformation capture revealed that this region physically interacts with the promoter of the cardiac specific isoform of Pitx2. Surprisingly, this regulatory region also interacts with the promoter of the next neighbouring gene, Enpep, which we show to be expressed in regions of the developing mouse heart essential for cardiac electrical activity. El pensamiento de José María Izquierdo Arroyo en la organización y representación del conocimiento: una sistematización desde fundamentos filosóficos y semióticos

This work considers the scientific contributions of José María Izquierdo Arroyo to Knowledge Organization and Representation. From a logic-linguistic point of view, three outbreaks of research are discussed: studies based on the theory of Information Science, Communication and Semiology and Information Science Linguistics. Finally, a reflection is done about the influence of the aforementioned author in his research group from an information science semiotics point of view.Se analizan las aportaciones científicas de José María Izquierdo a la lingüística y semiótica documental, a partir de una selección y comentario de su obra. Desde posicionamientos claramente lógico-formalistas, a la vez que lingüísticos, revisamos su concepción de la organización y representación del conocimiento, desde tres núcleos de acción: a) trabajos centrados en la teoría de documentación, b) estudios orientados hacia la teoría de la comunicación y la semiología, y c) investigaciones relacionadas con la lingüística documental y semiótica documental: teoría del análisis lógico-lingüístico, gestión de lenguajes documentales y sistemas automáticos de procesamiento del discurso. Finalmente, se alude al legado doctrinal del autor en su grupo de investigación, desde la concepción del esquema semiótico como motor de las investigaciones, enfocado éste hacia el resumen documental, la pragmática en la representación documental, y la lingüística descriptiva y comparada de los lenguajes documentales

Reflections on the documentary abstract and it?s practice: revision and systematization of theoreticalpractical approaches

[Resumen] Se realiza una categorización de los estudios del resumen documental a partir de la revisión de los diferentes modelos y propuestas de los investigadores en este campo. Se señala la evolución de la investigación en esta actividad de tratamiento documental de contenido, atendiendo a las aproximaciones de la textolingüística y el estructuralismo lingüístico, los enfoques semióticos, las orientaciones de la psicología cognitiva, o el funcionalismo sociointeraccional. Para ello, se establecen distintas etapas, que van desde los postulados precientíficos iniciales hacia avances metateóricos y procedimentales más complejos y dinámicos. Las nuevas orientaciones y tendencias son clasificadas en base a tres dimensiones: el enfoque del texto/producto, el enfoque del proceso-actividad resumidora y la aproximación comunicativo-sociocultural, como puente integrador entre ambos. Finalmente, se alude a una fusión necesaria de las teorías resumidoras existentes para configurar un mapa consolidado de modelos resumidores en distintos ámbitos de especialidad.[Abstract] We elaborate a study of the documentary abstract´s categorisation based on the revision of the different models the investigators in this field´s proposal. In this paper it is indicated the evolution of the investigation about the activity of the documentary treatment focusing on content. This research is developing through various interdisciplinary approaches, such as, textolingüístique approache, linguistic estructuralism approach, semiotic approach, including mental psychology orientation, and sociointeractional functionalism. In order to achieve the purpose, different stages are established: starting from the initial pre-scientific proposals which postulated towards the more complex and dynamic metatheoretical and procedural advances. The new directions and tendencies are classified on the basis of three dimensions: text/ product approach, abstracting process-activity approach and the communicative-sociocultural approach, as the integrating bridge between both. Finally, it guide to a necessary fusion of the existing summarizing theories in order to form a consolidated map of abstracting models in different scopes of specialty

Gait pattern and cognitive performance during treadmill walking in Parkinson disease

[Abstract] Objective: The aim of this study was to explore whether attentional demands are involved in gait improvements in Parkinson disease (PD) patients when they walk on a treadmill. Design: Nineteen individuals with idiopathic PD and 19 age-matched healthy controls participated in this study. Participants walked on a treadmill and on overground under single task (walk only) and dual task (walk performing a simultaneous cognitive task) conditions. The dual-task paradigm was used to reveal the attention allocation behavior. Gait pattern and cognitive performance was measured. Results: The PD group showed reduced gait variability when walking on a treadmill in comparison with overground. However, this reduction did not deteriorate during the dual task. Moreover, there were no differences in the cognitive performance between treadmill and overground walking. Conclusions: This study does not support the proposition attentional resource allocation as a possible mechanism for the treadmill-associated gait improvements observed in PD.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; DEP2011-2246

MIRACLE’s hybrid approach to bilingual and monolingual Information Retrieval

The main goal of the bilingual and monolingual participation of the MIRACLE team at CLEF 2004 was testing the effect of combination approaches to information retrieval. The starting point is a set of basic components: stemming, transformation, filtering, generation of n-grams, weighting and relevance feedback. Some of these basic components are used in different combinations and order of application for document indexing and for query processing. Besides this, a second order combination is done, mainly by averaging or by selective combination of the documents retrieved by different approaches for a particular query
