Cuantificación de los flujos de asistencia: un nuevo enfoque

    Get PDF

Gilles Lipovetsky has gradually become one of the most internationally acclaimed scholars in modern French sociology due to his sharp analyses on post-modern societies. In this paper we will develop a critical revision of his main lines of thought. Our goal is to reflect upon the limits of Lipovetsky’s approach to concepts such as post-modernity, hypermodernity and consumption

Berry phase in homogeneous K\"ahler manifolds with linear Hamiltonians

We study the total (dynamical plus geometrical (Berry)) phase of cyclic quantum motion for coherent states over homogeneous K\"ahler manifolds X=G/H, which can be considered as the phase spaces of classical systems and which are, in particular cases, coadjoint orbits of some Lie groups G. When the Hamiltonian is linear in the generators of a Lie group, both phases can be calculated exactly in terms of {\em classical} objects. In particular, the geometric phase is given by the symplectic area enclosed by the (purely classical) motion in the space of coherent states.Comment: LaTeX fil

A Poglut1 mutation causes a muscular dystrophy with reduced Notch signaling and satellite cell loss

    Get PDF
Skeletal muscle regeneration by muscle satellite cells is a physiological mechanism activated upon muscle damage and regulated by Notch signaling. In a family with autosomal recessive limbgirdle muscular dystrophy, we identified a missense mutation in POGLUT1 (protein O-glucosyltransferase 1), an enzyme involved in Notch posttranslational modification and function. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that the mutation reduces Oglucosyltransferase activity on Notch and impairs muscle development. Muscles from patients revealed decreased Notch signaling, dramatic reduction in satellite cell pool and a muscle-specific adystroglycan hypoglycosylation not present in patients’ fibroblasts. Primary myoblasts from patients showed slow proliferation, facilitated differentiation, and a decreased pool of quiescent PAX7+ cells. A robust rescue of the myogenesis was demonstrated by increasing Notch signaling. None of these alterations were found in muscles from secondary dystroglycanopathy patients. These data suggest that a key pathomechanism for this novel form of muscular dystrophy is Notch-dependent loss of satellite cells.Junta de Andalucía PI-0017-201

    Engineered bacteria as therapeutic agents

    Get PDF
Although bacteria are generally regarded as the causative agents of infectious diseases, most bacteria inhabiting the human body are non-pathogenic and some of them can be turned, after proper engineering, into ‘smart’ living therapeutics of defined properties for the treatment of different illnesses. This review focuses on recent developments to engineer bacteria for the treatment of diverse human pathologies, including inflammatory bowel diseases, autoimmune disorders, cancer, metabolic diseases and obesity, as well as to combat bacterial and viral infections. We discuss significant advances provided by synthetic biology to fully reprogram bacteria as human therapeutics, including novel measures for strict biocontainment.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) (BIO2014- 60305R and BIO2011-26689), BACFITERed (SAF2014-56716-REDT)Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (S2010-BMD-2312)La Caixa FoundationMINECO (BES-2009-02405)Peer reviewe

Co-digestion of two-phase olive-mill waste and cattle manure: Influence of solids content on process performance

    Get PDF
The solids content is a key parameter in the development of anaerobic digestion as it can determine the proper operation and performance of the process. The influence of the total solids content on the mesophilic anaerobic co-digestion of two-phase olive-mill waste (2POMW) and cattle manure (CM) was investigated. Four different total solids (TS) concentrations, in a 75:25 mixture of 2POMW:CM, were studied in batch reactors of 2 L capacity: 10%TS (R10), 15%TS (R15), 20%TS (R20) and 28.6%TS (Reactor non-diluted). The methane yields and the organic matter removal efficiency for the reactor with 10 and 15% TS were significantly higher than in the reactors with a higher solids content (R20 and Rnd). The hydrolytic and acidogenic phases were not adversely affected by the total solid content since the concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) increased as TS per- centage increased. However, a clear effect on the methanogenic phase was observed, which led to the accu- mulation of VFAs in the reactors R15, R20 and Rnd. Experimental results have shown that the best conditions correspond to the reactor containing 10% TS. The volatile solids and VFA removal in reactor R10 were 57.5% and 93.7% respectively. Moreover, the methane yield and the specific methane production were 35.80 LCH4/ kgVSadded and 82.51 LCH4/kgVSremoved respectivelyThis research has been co-financed by the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme and by the Department of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and University of the Regional Government of Andalusia. Get PDF
This paper presents the conclusions of a study carried out during the audiovisual season of 2014 that was aimed at seeing the public’s perception of Spanish cinema. To obtain the quantitative data for the experiment, a field survey has been carried out, the mayor on this issue since 2009, with a total sampling of n=1244 people surveyed all over the country. Besides, this quantitative study has been backed up with further data from production, ticket sales and in-depth interviews to members of the film industry. Finally, a qualitative analysis has been carried out to delve into two further aspects: the audience’s tastes and the strategies used by film producers, film directors and other sectors within the film industry. The central aim of this study was to assess what was the perception of the Spanish public on their cinema. Our study reveals that regarding the films produced in Spain a change of trend has occurred. A majority of the people surveyed seem to feel closer and keen on the films of the last season, this being a conclusion reaffirmed with other control data, such as box office sales and impact on the audience.
