Multi-method Approach to Assess the Impact of Off-fault Deformation During Fault Evolution

Scaled physical experiments using analog materials that simulate deformation processes in the Earth’s crust provide direct observations of deformation during strike-slip fault evolution. Carefully scaled experiments allow us to directly observe millions of years of deformation within hours and document the behavior of experimental faults. My thesis is composed of three distinct chapters that use scaled physical experiments to help us better understand partitioning of deformation on and off of strike-slip faults within the Earth’s crust. For my first project, I built a workflow that allows the measurement of off-fault deformation manifested as vertical motions along faults. When combined with horizontal displacements, these measurements allow us to quantify off-fault deformation in three dimensions during strike-slip fault experiments conducted in the geomechanics laboratory. My second project, inspired by the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquake, investigates the impact of pre-existing weaknesses during strike-slip fault evolution using scaled physical experiments with wet kaolin that simulate upper crustal deformation processes. Pre-existing weaknesses oriented 90-120˚ (counter-clockwise) from the primary fault experience left-lateral slip that matches co-seismic observations from the northern portion of the Ridgecrest main shock rupture. My third and final project utilizes results from experimental strike-slip faults on wet kaolin and dry sand (both poured and sedimented) to train convolutional neural networks (CNN) to predict off-fault deformation from maps of active strike-slip faults of different maturity such as those in southern California. The different analog materials produce different estimates of off-fault deformation along strike-slip faults due to the different portioning of strain on and off of faults within the materials. Whether due to material properties or active fault geometry, regions of greater off-fault deformation in the crust have greater shallow slip deficit so that surface estimates of deformation may underestimate sub-surface seismic hazard

This study aims to analyze the raw materials procurement based on six right components, standard cost, distribution channels, marketing margins, and the role of supporting services.  This research uses a case study method at El Shaddai Food Agroindustry, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta City.  The research data were collected in December 2019 to February 2020 and the data analyses method used were qualitative and quantitative descriptive analyses.  The results showed that the six components of raw material procurement process had been done precisely.  The standard cost of chicken bacang was less than the selling price so the business was profitable and the marketing channels consisted of two channels.  Support services that have been utilized to the fullest were market and transportation.Key words: agroindustry, bacang, marketing, online, performanc

Business and Marketing Mix Analysis of Bacang Food Industry Through Conventional and Online Marketing (Case: El Shaddai Food Small Industry)

Bacang agroindustry is undeveloped in Indonesia and the internet has not been maximally utilized by bacang entrepreneurs. Therefore, business and marketing analysis of bacang agroindustry is important to do to develop the business and internet utilization for bacang agroindustry. The research aims to analyze profit, cost of goods manufactured, financial performance, marketing mix, and the impact of online marketing on the chicken bacang agroindustry. This research uses a case study method at El Shaddai Food Agroindustry, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. Research data were collected from December 2019 until February 2020 and the data analysis methods used were qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that conventional marketing profit was smaller than online marketing profit and the selling price exceeded the cost of goods manufactured, so the agroindustry was considered viable on every marketing method. Financial performance in the last three years was quite good. The marketing mix was not good. Online marketing gave an impact on agroindustry revenue and profit. Por medio de las actividades lúdico pedagógicas se busca fortalecer normas que favorezcan el buen comportamiento de las niñas y los niños dentro y fuera del aula de clases, observando cuáles son los factores que repercuten en los comportamientos negativos de los estudiantes, y la forma en la cual podemos minimizar ciertos comportamientos que no favorecen el aprendizaje de las niñas y los niños. Las estrategias que se desarrollaron se basan, en la creación de títeres con material reciclable que pretende fortalecer la interacción entre las niñas y los niños y los valores como la tolerancia, cooperación, respeto y fortalecer la amistad, estas actividades permiten mejorar normas de convivencia mediadas por la lúdica, al mismo modo los niños y las niñas encontraran la forma de divertirse mientras aprenden. Leiomyosarcoma of the popliteal artery: Case report and review of the literature

AbstractVascular leiomyosarcomas are rare tumors, and only 21 have been described as developing in the systemic arteries. We present a case, the sixth in the literature, of a leiomyosarcoma originating in the popliteal artery of a 67-year-old woman treated with en bloc excision of the neoplasia and the artery followed by a popliteal tibioperoneal trunk bypass. The patient then was underwent adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After 31 months of follow-up, the patient has mild claudication but does not have either recurrence or metastasis. p16 and its putative interplay with metabolic factors in prostate cancer: An analysis based on public TCGA data

p16 is one of the most common tumour suppressor genes, mainly due to its genetic inactivation. However, the clinical significance of p16 in prostate cancer is not yet fully understood, and although p16 acts as a tumour suppressor gene, stress or oncogenic factors or alternative molecular events may overcome the role of p16 as a negative cell cycle regulator. p16 seems to be involved in the metabolic switch to glycolysis during tumorigenesis, possibly interacting with NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) and pyruvate kinase type M2 (PKM2), involved in energy metabolism, with differences depending on cell type. The aim of this study was to assess the putative crosstalk between p16, NOX4 and PKM2, with an involvement of miRNA-mediated regulation, in prostate cancer. Transcriptome data from a cohort of 243 patients were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. An elevated p16 expression level was significantly associated a high Gleason score, decreasing with the score (P<0.0001). NOX4 and PKM2 expression exhibited a similar trend as p16, with higher values in the samples with Gleason scores of 9-10 samples (P<0.0001 and P=0.02, respectively). Moreover, bioinformatics analysis by TargetScan revealed that miR-625-5p could bind to the 3'UTR of p16. A consequential pairing of the NOX4 and PKM2 target region with miR-23a-3p and miR-122-5p, respectively was also found. Of note, the miR-625-5p levels inversely correlated with p16 expression, miR-23a-3p and miR-122 with NOX4 and PKM2, respectively (data not shown). Taken together, these data suggest an interplay between p16 and metabolic factors, such as NOX4 and PKM2, and a miRNA regulation, with a potential clinical impact for the development of novel therapeutic strategies in prostate tumours

Nivel De Conocimiento De Las Puérperas Sobre Los Signos De Alarma Del Recién Nacido De Alta Y Su Relación Con El Reingreso Hospitalario En El Hospital Belén De Trujillo, 2018

El presente estudio se realizó con la finalidad de determinar la relación entre nivel de conocimiento de las puérperas sobre los signos de alarma del recien nacidos de alta y su relacion con el reingreso hospitalario en el Hospital Belén de Trujillo; por medio de un diseño descriptivo correlacional simple prospectivo de corte trasversal; para lo cual se incluyeron a 60 puérperas ingresadas en el Hospital Belén de Trujillo – 2018; encontrando que la distribución según nivel de conocimiento de las madres acerca de los signos de alarma del recién nacido fue en su mayoría con un 53.3% que presentan un nivel bajo, un 41.7% de nivel medio y 5% de nivel alto; y por otro lado en relación a los ingresos hospitalarios de los neonatos egresados encontramos que en su mayoría un 71.7% no acuden al alojamiento conjunto en el hospital y de lo contrario un 28.3% que sí; teniendo como evidencia de que existe relación significativa entre conocimientos de las puérperas sobre los signos de alarma del recien nacidos de alta y su relacion con el reingreso hospitalario en el Hospital Belén (p < 0.05)

Intraductal prostate cancer: An aggressive subset of prostate cancers? Immunophenotypic evaluation

Introduction: The presence of intraductal prostate cancer in a sample is often associated with large tumor volume, an advanced stage of the disease, a high Gleason score and an increased risk of recurrence, and resistance to androgen suppression and chemotherapy, which are also correlated with reduced progression-free survival and with postoperative, biochemical relapse. Methods: The aim of our study was to investigate whether carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is upregulated in prostate cancer and to investigate ERG and EZH2 as potential markers for cancer aggression in aggressive acinar disease with intraductal component prostate cancer. The series consisted of 79 cases of prostate cancer. Immunohistochemical staining was performed for EZH2 ERG and CA IX. Results: The results of this study underline the fact that EZH2 protein expression is a powerful predictor of PSA relapse in prostate cancer and that this effect is stronger in ERG-positive cancers than in ERG-negative cancers. Evident EZH2 nuclear expression was found in prostatic tumor, proposing increased EZH2 expression important for the spread of prostate cancer. Conclusions: The relationship to tumor phenotype and prognosis was more considerable in ERG-positive tumors than in ERG-negative tumors. EZH2 has gained great interest as a target for epigenetic cancer therapy. Although prostate cancer is a hypoxic tumor, it does not express CA IX and cannot be used as an endogenous marker for hypoxia. © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications. All rights reserved

Os circuitos da economia urbana para compreender a formação de espaços turisticos na região insular de Belém (Pará) (Edição 523)

Tendo por base a teoria dos circuitos econômicos, bem como reflexões acerca da produção do espaço insular na perspectiva do turismo em Belém, em especial sobre a Área de Proteção Ambiental da Ilha do Combu, buscou-se analisar os efeitos do turismo nas atividades de pequeno comércio e prestação de serviços responsáveis por transformar as dinâmicas cotidianas tradicionais dos moradores, que vivem em um ambiente de diversidade biológica e cultural, onde a paisagem é sublinhada pela circulação de embarcações, pequenos portos, trapiches e atividades do circuito inferior. Para a realização do estudo sistematizou-se dados qualitativos e quantitativos tendo como fontes: observação não-participante da paisagem insular; entrevistas com comerciantes e moradores; por fim, coleta de dados secundários em revistas, jornais, dissertações, teses e páginas virtuais de notícias. Os resultados mostraram que o conjunto imbricado de relações várzea-rio-floresta vem sofrendo uma série de mudanças ocasionadas pela tentativa de desenvolvimento da atividade turística no local. O volume acumulativo de negócios do circuito superior do turismo conta com a ligação ao circuito superior marginal, principal responsável pelas atividades de circulação.Palavras-chave: Circuitos econômicos. Primary small cell carcinoma of the ureter: Case report and review of the literature

Abstract Rationale: Primitive small cell carcinoma of the ureter is extremely rare, in this case report is meticulously described its aggressive clinical course and the pathological clues that help with the diagnosis. Also, a detailed table with the clinico-pathological features of analogous case reports in literature is provided. Patient concerns: A 79-year-old female presented with gross hematuria and flank pain. Diagnoses: Small cell carcinoma of the ureter. The surgical specimen showed a mixed histology of small cell carcinoma and transitional cell carcinoma; the common neuroendocrine markers (chromogranin A, synaptophysin, CD56) were positive, and vimentin and thyroid transcription factor 1 were negative. The patient had an advanced stage at presentation with regional nodes involvement (pT3N1). Interventions: Segmental ureterectomy was performed but it was only possible to administer 1 cycle of platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy due to the rapid decline of her clinical parameters.
