History of mathematics and history of science

This essay argues that the diversity of the history of mathematics community in the United Kingdom has influenced the development of the subject and is a significant factor behind the different concerns often evident in work on the history of mathematics when compared with that of historians of science. The heterogeneous nature of the community, which includes many who are not specialist historians, and the limited opportunities for academic careers open to practitioners have had a profound effect on the discipline, leading to a focus on elite mathematics and great mathematicians. More recently, reflecting earlier developments in the history of science, an increased interest in the context and culture of the practice of mathematics has become evident

The distribution of Stenus audax J. Sahlberg is reviewed and three new finds from northernmost Finland are recorded, all from Utsjoki, Nuorgam. S. audax seems to prefer areas of upwelling cold groundwater surrounded by sparse Carex vegefation or heavy stands of different mosses on hihglying mires in the upper parts of the mountain birch forest zone. You Know, You Grow

As we have studied the nature of wicked problems and connected with local case studies, our team has come to the conclusion that in order for communities to grow and develop deeper connections, healthier neighborhoods, and happier residents, there must be inclusive dialogue and participatory action. Addressing a neighborhood’s nutritional needs is messy, involving complex social dynamics and disparate stakeholders. Through community connections and dialogic inquiry we have begun to recognize needs related to the local food system. We strive to empower residents to pursue self-directed, neighborhood oriented change. Our team first worked to develop a model of community engagement that can be adapted, copied, and spread to any community setting. The model explained how to conduct inclusive, participatory dialogue that aims to encourage story-telling and camaraderie rather than debate or opposition. Secondly, our team has engaged with several community members over the course of the semester to practice having these dialogic conversations in order to learn, change, and grow as individuals better equipped to understand and progress the dialogue on local food systems. This article synthesizes our findings, describes what we have learned, and offers a model for healthy community conversations that drive locally directed growth

New data on the Australasian Xantholinini. 9th. New genus, new species, and new records from Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) [259th contribution to the knowledge of the Staphylinidae]

One genus and four species of Xantholinini are described as new: Kamilaroius serpens gen. n., sp. n. and Andelis australis sp. n. from Australia; Zeteotomus caledonicus sp. n. from New Caledonia, and Wangareiella suborbata sp. n. from New Zealand. The male genitalia of Australinus megacephalus (Lea) are figured for the first time. New records of other species of Xantholinini from the Australasian region are listed
