The Internet of Things has democratized the use of sports' monitoring devices. The majority of these devices, available on the market, are targeted to the fitness practice creating the necessity of having different solutions for different sports. This work focuses on the development of a low-profile surf monitoring device capable of acquiring the required data for an existing algorithm developed by Fraunhofer Portugal. The resulting system should support long periods inside the water (low-power and waterproofed) without interfering with the athlete's performance (low-profile) and be able of transmitting the acquired data for an external device. Due to project's requirements, some of the technologies were already selected (microcontroller, gyroscope, magnetometer, accelerometer and GNSS module). However other technologies such as: the wireless communication system, storage method and power system needed to be selected. For the first, the system data throughput was estimated and the technology with the best relation throughput vs. power consumption was selected. To select the storage method, a survey was conducted to estimate the relation between each technology's price and data size. To select the power system, two studies were conducted in order to infer the hypothesis of supplying the system with photovoltaic cells, increasing the autonomy during a surf session: a power consumption study to estimate the system's power requirements and a solar irradiance study to predict the required area of photovoltaic cells. In order to determine the impact of having epoxy resin, commonly used to cover surf boards, some tests were conducted by applying this resin over the cells and measuring the output power

In the last years, Aesthetics has been playing an increasingly important role in dental medicine. A pleasant smile is an indispensable part of facial harmony and, consequently, of people's self-esteem, having an impact on society and the working, effective and social level, affecting everyday life. Implantology offers to patients who have lost dental elements, near-natural rehabilitation. In the anterior region, the patients' requirement and the bone resorption profile makes the treatment a real challenge in the search for excellence. Considering these statements, the objective of this study is based on a review of the literature on the use of implants in the anterior sector, with a view to improving the quality of life and aesthetics. Materials and methods: The bibliographic research was carried out in the electronic databases PubMed, Research Gat, B-On, Scienc Direct and Elsevier during the months of January to April 2017, emphasizing articles published between 1998 and 2017 in Portuguese, Spanish and English. In sum, in the accomplishment of the present dissertation, the research resulted in a total of 63 bibliographical references, using the "established keywords"

Integration of Pumping in Virtual Power Players management considering demand response

The increase of distributed generation in several countries around the world brought several challenges to planning and operation of the electric network. In situations of high penetration of non-storable resources generation, mainly wind power, demand response programs and pumping may be applied, in order to encourage the increase of consumption, to guarantee a better electric network management. The present paper presents a methodology focusing on demand response programs, distributed generation and pumping, which aims to be used by a Virtual Power Player, who is able to manage the available resources optimizing its costs. The main objective is to use pump to store water to reservoirs, so the reservoir owner would have enough power to boost for energy generation. The case study includes 2223 consumers and 47 distributed generators, which was implemented using a Portuguese power system real scenario, 9th March 2014.The present work was done and funded in the scope of the following projects: EUREKA - ITEA2 Project SEAS with project number 12004; H2020 DREAM-GO Project (Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 641794); and UID/EEA/00760/2013 funded by FEDER Funds through COMPETE program and by National Funds through FCT.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Recent energy policies in countries around the world, including in Europe, point to the need to integrate growing amounts of distributed generation in electric power systems. This situation led to several changes in the operation and planning of power systems. This paper presents a methodology focusing on demand response programs, distributed generation and pumping, which is aimed to be used by a Virtual Power Player, who is able to manage the available resources minimizing the operation costs. The influence of demand response shifting management, in which was possible to shift load from a critical period to other more benefic, was also taken into account. In this paper it was used Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), to predict the power the VPP would have to pump to reservoirs to fulfill the reservoir operator demands along the day. The case study includes 2223 consumers and 47 distributed generators units. The implemented scenario corresponds to a real day in Portuguese power system, 9th March 2014.The present work was done and funded in the scope of the following projects: EUREKA - ITEA2 Project SEAS with project number 12004; H2020 DREAM-GO Project (Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 641794); and UID/EEA/00760/2013 funded by FEDER Funds through COMPETE program and by National Funds through FCT.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The subjective perception of vitality is an indicator of well-being that can translate into improved quality of life. A valid and reliable instrument will allow researchers to accurately measure vitality in the context of exercise. Thus, the objective ofthe present study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Subjective Vitality Scale (SVS) in a Portuguese sample of physical exercise practitioners according to gender and practice experience. Data were collected from a sample of a total of 330 adults (women = 145; men = 185). Participants were aged between 18 and 64 years (M = 28.52; SD = 9.86), with a mean exercise experience of 8.14 months (SD = 6.14), and with a weekly frequency of between 1–7 times (M = 4.42; SD = 1.35). A confirmatory factor analysis of the scale's six-item measurement model and an analysis of invariance as a function of gender and practice experience were performed. The results of bivariate correlations were also analyzed toassess the nomological validity of the instrument with enjoyment and with the intention of continuing in practice. The SVS measurement model demonstrated an acceptable fit in each of the samples and the composite reliability coefficients were adequate. Correlations indicated that higher levels of vitality were associated with higher levels of enjoyment and intention to continue to practice physical exercise in the future. The measurement model proved to be invariant between samples, thus adding greater support to its validity to assess the subjective perception of vitality in the context of physical exercise. The SVS thus seems to be a reliable instrument for assessing vitality, in both sexes, as well as in people with different practiceexperiencesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
