This essay attempts to outline a historical method developed from the late writings of Walter Benjamin. Arlette Farge argues that in Passagenwerk, the work about Leskov and in On the Concept of History, the German philosopher succeeded in portraying a new way of thinking about history. This was an approach that offered the historian access not only to facts but also to particular experiences, felt emotions, desires or dreams. Entre doutes et engagements : un arrêt sur image à partir de l’histoire des femmes

Militante et réflexive, l’histoire des femmes a aussi besoin d’exprimer ses doutes et ses inconforts. Rattrapée par l’actualité, la violence et nombre d’événements cruels et tragiques, par des incertitudes majeures vécues par l’ensemble du monde intellectuel, elle pose aujourd’hui en cet article collectif des interrogations et des inquiétudes. Ce travail à plusieurs (les participantes du Groupe d’histoire des femmes du CRH) cherche à mettre à plat ce qui actuellement se dérobe à notre connaissance, en partant de notions-clés souvent utilisées comme consentement, sexualité, écriture, patriarcat, etc. Chacune de ces notions est discutée à la lumière des brouillages actuels, des temporalités nouvelles, de l’avènement triomphant du corps marchandise, de la pauvreté grandissante, etc.Women’s history, a militant and self-reflexive endeavor, needs to express its doubts and its difficulties. The contemporary world, with its violence, its cruel and tragic events, raises questions for all intellectuals and academics, affected by the uncertainties of the present, and all the more so for women historians and historians of women and gender. This collective article (written by the participants of the Women’s History Group of the Centre de Recherches Historiques – CNRS/EHESS) addresses these issues by returning to key concepts that have been utilized over the last few decades – such as consent, sexuality, patriarchy, etc. Each term is analyzed in the light of current debates and new temporalities, from recent discussions about the body (and its commercialization) to growing inequalities, etc

Matrix Isolation Infrared Spectroscopic and Theoretical Study of the Interaction of Water with Dimethyl Methylphosphonate

Matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy has been combined with theoretical calculations for the characterization of the 1:1 hydrogen-bonded complex between H2O and dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP). The symmetric O-H stretching mode was observed to shift 203 cm-1 to lower energy upon hydrogen bond formation, while a 32 cm-1 blue shift was noted for the H-O-H bending mode of the H2O subunit in the complex. These values compare extremely well with the (unscaled) shifts of -203 and +32 cm-1, respectively, that were calculated theoretically at the MP2/6-31+G** level. Additional perturbed modes of the DMMP subunit were observed, shifted relative to the parent band position. The greatest perturbation was to the P=O stretching mode near 1270 cm-1, where a shift of -17 cm-1 was observed (-21 cm-1 calculated theoretically). This suggests that the site of hydrogen bonding in the complex is at the P=O group, in agreement with theoretical calculations. The binding energy ΔE° for the 1:1 complex was calculated to be -7.7 kcal/mol
