On the Cauchy transform of complex powers of the variable

The integral $\int_{|z|=1} \frac{z^\beta}{z-\alpha} dz$ for $\beta=1/2$ has been comprehensively studied, for pedagogical purposes, by Mortini and Rupp. We elaborate on their work with the more general consideration $\beta \in \mathbb{C}$, culminating in an explicit solution in terms of the hypergeometric function for $|\alpha| \neq 1$ and any $\beta$. For rational $\beta$, the integral is reduced to a finite sum. A differential equation in $\alpha$ is derived for this integral, which we show has similar properties to the hypergeometric equation.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure

Polyploidization delay in rat hepatocytes under liver growth inhibition by hypokinesia

A study of young rats, weighing 55 to 59 g, after being for 10 days in conditions of limited mobility, shows a retardation of body growth as well as that of liver growth. The decrease in the rate of growth is accompanied by a reduction of cell proliferation and by delay polyploidization of hepatocytes in the liver of experimental rats. Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá problematikou kvality napätia v jednosmerných sieťach. Elektrická energia je tovar, a preto musí mať nielen svoje kvantitatívne, ale aj kvalitatívne parametre, ktoré charakterizuje kvalita elektrickej energie. V súčasnosti rastie dopyt pre väčšiu implementáciu obnoviteľných zdrojov energie a zvýšenie účinnosti súčasných energetických systémov, čo motivuje nasadzovanie elektrických sietí s jednosmerným napätím. Avšak tento rozvoj je brzdený chýbajúcou štandardizáciou aj v oblasti kvality elektrickej energie, a preto práca obsahuje návrh parametrov posudzujúcich kvalitu napätia v daných sieťach a metodiku ich vyhodnocovania.This diploma thesis deals with elektrical power quality in DC grids. Electrical power is commodity and therefore it must be represented not just with quantitative, but also with qualitative parameters. Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for bigger implementation of renewable energy sources and more efficient power systems, which motivates installation of DC grids. However, development of DC grids is decelerated by lack of standardization alson in power quality. The work includes definition of power quality parameters and their measurement methodology.

The impact of specialty settings on the perceived quality of medical ultrasound video

Health care professionals are increasingly viewing medical images and videos in a variety of environments. The perception of medical visual information across all specialties, career stages, and practice settings are critical to patient care and patient safety. Visual signal distortions, such as various types of noise and artifacts arising in medical imaging, affect the perceptual quality of visual content and potentially impact diagnoses. To optimize clinical practice, it is of fundamental importance to understand the way medical experts perceive visual quality. Psychophysical studies have been undertaken to evaluate the impact of visual distortions on the perceived quality of medical images and videos. However, very little research has been conducted on how speciality settings affect the perception of visual quality. In this paper, we investigate whether and how radiologists and sonographers differently perceive the quality of compressed ultrasound videos, via a dedicated subjective experiment. The findings can be used to develop useful solutions for improved visual experience and better image-based diagnoses
