Dynamic Structure Function in 3he-4he Mixtures
Relevant features of the dynamic structure function in
He-He mixtures at zero temperature are investigated starting from known
properties of the ground state. Sum rules are used to fix rigorous constraints
to the different contributions to , coming from He and He
elementary excitations, as well as to explore the role of the cross term

1p-1h He excitations) and high- (deep inelastic scattering) ranges are

Thermalized Displaced Squeezed Thermal States
In the coordinate representation of thermofield dynamics, we investigate the
thermalized displaced squeezed thermal state which involves two temperatures
successively. We give the wavefunction and the matrix element of the density
operator at any time, and accordingly calculate some quantities related to the
position, momentum and particle number operator, special cases of which are
consistent with the results in the literature. The two temperatures have
diffenent correlations with the squeeze and coherence components. Moreover,
different from the properties of the position and momentum, the average value
and variance of the particle number operator as well as the second-order

Cytoadherence and virulence - the case of Plasmodium knowlesi malaria.
BACKGROUND: Cytoadherence of infected red blood cells to brain endothelium is causally implicated in malarial coma, one of the severe manifestations of falciparum malaria. Cytoadherence is mediated by specific binding of variant parasite antigens, expressed on the surface of infected erythrocytes, to endothelial receptors including, ICAM-1, VCAM and CD36. In fatal cases of severe falciparum malaria with coma, blood vessels in the brain are characteristically congested with infected erythrocytes. Brain sections from a fatal case of knowlesi malaria, but without coma, were similarly congested with infected erythrocytes. The objective of this study was to determine the binding phenotype of Plasmodium knowlesi infected human erythrocytes to recombinant human ICAM-1, VCAM and CD36.
METHODS: Five patients with PCR-confirmed P. knowlesi malaria were recruited into the study with consent between April and August 2010. Pre-treatment venous blood was washed and cultured ex vivo to increase the proportion of schizont-infected erythrocytes. Cultured blood was seeded into Petri dishes with triplicate areas coated with ICAM-1, VCAM and CD36. Following incubation at 37°C for one hour the dishes were washed and the number of infected erythrocytes bound/mm2 to PBS control areas and to recombinant human ICAM-1 VCAM and CD36 coated areas were recorded. Each assay was performed in duplicate. Assay performance was monitored with the Plasmodium falciparum clone HB3.
RESULTS: Blood samples were cultured ex vivo for up to 14.5 h (mean 11.3 ± 1.9 h) to increase the relative proportion of mature trophozoite and schizont-infected red blood cells to at least 50% (mean 65.8 ± 17.51%). Three (60%) isolates bound significantly to ICAM-1 and VCAM, one (20%) isolate bound to VCAM and none of the five bound significantly to CD36.
CONCLUSIONS: Plasmodium knowlesi infected erythrocytes from human subjects bind in a specific but variable manner to the inducible endothelial receptors ICAM-1 and VCAM. Binding to the constitutively-expressed endothelial receptor CD36 was not detected. Further work will be required to define the pathological consequences of these interactions
Optimization of Convolutional Neural Network ensemble classifiers by Genetic Algorithms
Breast cancer exhibits a high mortality rate and it is the most invasive cancer in women. An analysis from histopathological images could predict this disease. In this way, computational image processing might support this task. In this work a proposal which employes deep learning convolutional neural networks is presented. Then, an ensemble of networks is considered in order to obtain an enhanced recognition performance of the system by the consensus of the networks of the ensemble. Finally, a genetic algorithm is also considered to choose the networks that belong to the ensemble. Liver enzymes in Nigerians with lichen planus
Lichen planus has been reported in association with liver diseases. Clinical signs such as jaundice may not be reliable indicator of ongoing inflammation or the presence of an ongoing liver disease. Liver function test in spite of its variability may serve as amore reliable indicator of liver disease. The objective of this study is to assess the discriminant power of liver enzymes with lichen planus and control. Sixty Nigerians with lichen planus (LP group) and 30 patients with other dermatoses control group A) and 30 apparently normal individual (control group B) had their liver enzymes assayed using the automated Hitachi 70 auto-analyzer There was no a statistically significant difference in the level of liver enzymes between the LP group and controls Liver enzymes in Nigerian with lichen planus are generally within normal limits and are comparable to individuals without lichen planus.

The abundances and distributions of molluscs in the southern Iberian Peninsula: A comparison of marine and terrestrial systems
Molluscs are the second most diverse of all animal phyla, and occur in many habitat types. They are, therefore, a particularly good phylum with which to compare and contrast differences between ecosystems. Mollusc data from a number of sites along the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula are analysed to study patterns of diversity and distribution using a range of multivariate techniques. Within each site, data are presented from three locations -fully terrestrial, rocky intertidal and soft bottom benthic (10 m and 20 m depths)- all in close proximity. The species are then classified in relation to morphology and size, and analysed at supraspecific levels to elucidate underlying patterns. The observed patterns are briefly discussed, with particular reference to the differential scope and importance of controlling factors in each ecosystem, such as dispersal processes. The results from the systems are compared and discussed in the context of ecological and evolutionary constraints in Mollusca.Los moluscos constituyen el segundo filo animal más diverso y se encuentran en muchos tipos de hábitat, por lo que son idĂłneos para establecer comparaciones entre distintos ecosistemas. Se han analizado los datos de los moluscos obtenidos en una serie de emplazamientos que cubrĂan el sur de la penĂnsula IbĂ©rica para determinar, empleando distintas tĂ©cnicas multivariantes, los patrones de diversidad y distribuciĂłn de estos organismos. Los datos se tomaron de ejemplares capturados en lugares del medio terrestre prĂłximos a la lĂnea de costa, de la franja intermareal rocosa y de sedimentos de fondos marinos situados a 10 y 20 m de profundidad. Las especies fueron clasificadas atendiendo a la morfologĂa y el tamaño, y se analizaron a nivel supraespecĂfico para elucidar los patrones generales, que se discuten aquĂ, brevemente, con especial Ă©nfasis en las diferencias segĂşn la importancia de los factores que controlan cada ecosistema, como, por ejemplo, los procesos de dispersiĂłn. Quantum phase transition of Bose-Einstein condensates on a ring nonlinear lattice
We study the phase transitions in a one dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate
on a ring whose atomic scattering length is modulated periodically along the
ring. By using a modified Bogoliubov method to treat such a nonlinear lattice
in the mean field approximation, we find that the phase transitions are of
different orders when the modulation period is 2 and greater than 2. We further
perform a full quantum mechanical treatment based on the time-evolving block
decimation algorithm which confirms the mean field results and reveals
interesting quantum behavior of the system. Our studies yield important
knowledge of competing mechanisms behind the phase transitions and the quantum

S-duality and 2d Topological QFT
We study the superconformal index for the class of N=2 4d superconformal
field theories recently introduced by Gaiotto. These theories are defined by
compactifying the (2,0) 6d theory on a Riemann surface with punctures. We
interpret the index of the 4d theory associated to an n-punctured Riemann
surface as the n-point correlation function of a 2d topological QFT living on
the surface. Invariance of the index under generalized S-duality
transformations (the mapping class group of the Riemann surface) translates
into associativity of the operator algebra of the 2d TQFT. In the A_1 case, for
which the 4d SCFTs have a Lagrangian realization, the structure constants and
metric of the 2d TQFT can be calculated explicitly in terms of elliptic gamma
functions. Associativity then holds thanks to a remarkable symmetry of an
elliptic hypergeometric beta integral, proved very recently by van de Bult.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figure
Haar expectations of ratios of random characteristic polynomials
We compute Haar ensemble averages of ratios of random characteristic
polynomials for the classical Lie groups K = O(N), SO(N), and USp(N). To that
end, we start from the Clifford-Weyl algebera in its canonical realization on
the complex of holomorphic differential forms for a C-vector space V. From it
we construct the Fock representation of an orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra osp
associated to V. Particular attention is paid to defining Howe's oscillator
semigroup and the representation that partially exponentiates the Lie algebra
representation of sp in osp. In the process, by pushing the semigroup
representation to its boundary and arguing by continuity, we provide a
construction of the Shale-Weil-Segal representation of the metaplectic group.
To deal with a product of n ratios of characteristic polynomials, we let V =
C^n \otimes C^N where C^N is equipped with its standard K-representation, and
focus on the subspace of K-equivariant forms. By Howe duality, this is a
highest-weight irreducible representation of the centralizer g of Lie(K) in
osp. We identify the K-Haar expectation of n ratios with the character of this
g-representation, which we show to be uniquely determined by analyticity, Weyl
group invariance, certain weight constraints and a system of differential
equations coming from the Laplace-Casimir invariants of g. We find an explicit
solution to the problem posed by all these conditions. In this way we prove
that the said Haar expectations are expressed by a Weyl-type character formula
for all integers N \ge 1. This completes earlier work by Conrey, Farmer, and
