    Soft end-point and mass corrections to the eta' g*g* vertex function

    Power-suppressed corrections arising from end-point integration regions to the space-like vertex function of the massive eta'-meson virtual gluon transition eta' - g*g* are computed. Calculations are performed within the standard hard-scattering approach (HSA) and the running coupling method supplemented by the infrared renormalon calculus. Contributions to the vertex function from the quark and gluon contents of the eta' -meson are taken into account and the Borel resummed expressions for F_{eta' g*g*}(Q2,\omega ,\eta), as well as for F_{eta' g g*}}(Q^{2},\omega =\pm 1,\eta) and F_{eta' g*g*}(Q^{2},\omega =0,\eta) are obtained. It is demonstrated that the power-suppressed corrections \sim (\Lambda ^{2}/Q^{2})^{n}, in the explored range of the total gluon virtuality 1 <Q2 < 25 GeV2, considerably enhance the vertex function relative to the results found in the framework of the standard HSA with a fixed coupling. Modifications generated by the eta ' -meson mass effects are discussed

    Moment Matching-Based Distribution Fitting with Generalized Hyper-Erlang Distributions

    This paper describes a novel moment matching based fitting method for phase-type (PH) distributions. A special sub-class of phase-type distributions is introduced for the fitting, called generalized hyper-Erlang distributions. The user has to provide only two parameters: the number of moments to match, and the upper bound for the sum of the multiplicities of the eigenvalues of the distribution, which is related to the maximal size of the resulting PH distribution. Given these two parameters, our method obtains all PH distributions that match the target moments and have a Markovian representation up to the given size. From this set of PH distributions the best one can be selected according to any distance function

    Sr2V3O9 and Ba2V3O9: quasi one-dimensional spin-systems with an anomalous low temperature susceptibility

    The magnetic behaviour of the low-dimensional Vanadium-oxides Sr2V3O9 and Ba2V3O9 was investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. In both compounds, the results can be very well described by an S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain with an intrachain exchange of J = 82 K and J = 94 K in Sr2V3O9 and Ba2V3O9, respectively. In Sr2V3O9, antiferromagnetic ordering at T_N = 5.3 K indicate a weak interchain exchange of the order of J_perp ~ 2 K. In contrast, no evidence for magnetic order was found in Ba2V3O9 down to 0.5 K, pointing to an even smaller interchain coupling. In both compounds, we observe a pronounced Curie-like increase of the susceptibility below 30 K, which we tentatively attribute to a staggered field effect induced by the applied magnetic field. Results of LDA calculations support the quasi one-dimensional character and indicate that in Sr2V3O9, the magnetic chain is perpendicular to the structural one with the magnetic exchange being transferred through VO4 tetrahedra.Comment: Submitted to Phy.     B->eta(') Form Factors in QCD

    We calculate the semileptonic form factors f+Bη(q2)f_+^{B\to \eta}(q^2) and f+Bη(q2)f_+^{B\to \eta'}(q^2) from QCD sum rules on the light-cone (LCSRs), to NLO in QCD, and for small to moderate q^2, 0q216GeV20\leq q^2\leq 16 {\rm GeV}^2. We include in particular the so-called singlet contribution, i.e.\ weak annihilation of the B meson with the emission of two gluons which, thanks to the U(1)A_{\rm A} anomaly, couple directly to \etap. This effect is included to leading-twist accuracy. This contribution has been neglected in previous calculations of the form factors from LCSRs. We find that the singlet contribution to f+Bηf_+^{B\to \eta'} can be up to 20%, while that to f+Bηf_+^{B\to \eta} is, as expected, much smaller and below 3%. We also suggest to measure the ratio B(Bηeν)/B(Bηeν){\cal B}(B\to\eta' e \nu)/{\cal B}(B\to \eta e \nu) to better constrain the size of the singlet contribution.Comment: 21 pages; version to appear in JHE

    Model Independent Analysis of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry for the BK1μ+μB\to K_{1}\mu^{+}\mu^{-} Decay

    The sensitivity of the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry AFB\mathcal{A}_{FB} for the exclusive BK1(1270)μ+μB\rightarrow K_{1}(1270)\mu^{+}\mu^{-} decay is examined by using most general non-standard 4-fermion interactions. Our analysis shows that the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry is very sensitive to the sign and size of the Wilson coefficients corresponding to the new vector type interactions, which are the counter partners of the usual Standard Model operators but have opposite chirality. In addition to these, the other significant effect comes from the interference of Scalar-Pseudoscalar and Tensor type operators. These results will not only enhance our theoretical understanding about the axial vector mesons but will also serve as a good tool to look for physics beyond the SM.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, Published version that appears in EPJ

    Arsenic speciation in edible alga samples by microwave-assisted extraction and high performance liquid chromatography coupled to atomic fluorescence spectrometry

    Twelve commercially available edible marine algae from France, Japan and Spain and the certified reference material (CRM) NIES No. 9 Sargassum fulvellum were analyzed for total arsenic and arsenic species. Total arsenic concentrations were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) after microwave digestion and ranged from 23 to 126 μg g−1. Arsenic species in alga samples were extracted with deionized water by microwave-assisted extraction and showed extraction efficiencies from 49 to 98%, in terms of total arsenic. The presence of eleven arsenic species was studied by high performance liquid chromatography–ultraviolet photo-oxidation–hydride generation atomic–fluorescence spectrometry (HPLC–(UV)–HG–AFS) developed methods, using both anion and cation exchange chromatography. Glycerol and phosphate sugars were found in all alga samples analyzed, at concentrations between 0.11 and 22 μg g−1, whereas sulfonate and sulfate sugars were only detected in three of them (0.6-7.2 μg g−1). Regarding arsenic toxic species, low concentration levels of dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) (<0.9 μg g−1) and generally high arsenate (As(V)) concentrations (up to 77 μg g−1) were found in most of the algae studied. The results obtained are of interest to highlight the need to perform speciation analysis and to introduce appropriate legislation to limit toxic arsenic species content in these food products

    Fitting the integrated Spectral Energy Distributions of Galaxies

    Fitting the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of galaxies is an almost universally used technique that has matured significantly in the last decade. Model predictions and fitting procedures have improved significantly over this time, attempting to keep up with the vastly increased volume and quality of available data. We review here the field of SED fitting, describing the modelling of ultraviolet to infrared galaxy SEDs, the creation of multiwavelength data sets, and the methods used to fit model SEDs to observed galaxy data sets. We touch upon the achievements and challenges in the major ingredients of SED fitting, with a special emphasis on describing the interplay between the quality of the available data, the quality of the available models, and the best fitting technique to use in order to obtain a realistic measurement as well as realistic uncertainties. We conclude that SED fitting can be used effectively to derive a range of physical properties of galaxies, such as redshift, stellar masses, star formation rates, dust masses, and metallicities, with care taken not to over-interpret the available data. Yet there still exist many issues such as estimating the age of the oldest stars in a galaxy, finer details ofdust properties and dust-star geometry, and the influences of poorly understood, luminous stellar types and phases. The challenge for the coming years will be to improve both the models and the observational data sets to resolve these uncertainties. The present review will be made available on an interactive, moderated web page (sedfitting.org), where the community can access and change the text.     Present Status and Future of DCC Analysis

    Disoriented Chiral Condensates (DCC) have been predicted to form in high energy heavy ion collisions where the approximate chiral symmetry of QCD has been restored. This leads to large imbalances in the production of charged to neutral pions. Sophisticated analysis methods are being developed to disentangle DCC events out of the large background of events with conventionally produced particles.
