Jornalismo e crítica da cultura: a urgência da nova identidade
The article discusses the various conceptual issues involving Cultural journalism as a result of the proliferation of virtual spaces of criticism. As a consequence, the system of credibility with which the genus has built its presence in the public sphere seems to be called into question both within the professional activity and in public references. The dilemma, which leverages the difficulties faced by genre historically, suggests a review of theoretical assumptions on which the journalistic practice of critique of culture sits.
XVI), estende-sepelos vários momentos do séc. XIX e culmina com o painel contemporâneonacional e internacional. O projeto proposto privilegia três objetos de estudo:a imprensa, o rádio e a televisão.Palavras-chaves: História da cultura, história dos meios de comunicação,imprensa, rádio, televisão
Order preserving pattern matching on trees and DAGs
The order preserving pattern matching (OPPM) problem is, given a pattern
string and a text string , find all substrings of which have the
same relative orders as . In this paper, we consider two variants of the
OPPM problem where a set of text strings is given as a tree or a DAG. We show
that the OPPM problem for a single pattern of length and a text tree
of size can be solved in time if the characters of are
drawn from an integer alphabet of polynomial size. The time complexity becomes
if the pattern is over a general ordered alphabet. We
then show that the OPPM problem for a single pattern and a text DAG is
NP-complete
Duel and sweep algorithm for order-preserving pattern matching
Given a text and a pattern over alphabet , the classic exact
matching problem searches for all occurrences of pattern in text .
Unlike exact matching problem, order-preserving pattern matching (OPPM)
considers the relative order of elements, rather than their real values. In
this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for OPPM problem using the
"duel-and-sweep" paradigm. Our algorithm runs in time in
general and time under an assumption that the characters in a string
can be sorted in linear time with respect to the string size. We also perform
experiments and show that our algorithm is faster that KMP-based algorithm.
Last, we introduce the two-dimensional order preserved pattern matching and
give a duel and sweep algorithm that runs in time for duel stage and
time for sweeping time with preprocessing time.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure
A quiescent galaxy at the position of the long GRB 050219A
Long-duration gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) are produced by the collapse of very
massive stars. Due to the short lifetime of their progenitors, LGRBs pinpoint
star-forming galaxies. We present here a multi-band search for the host galaxy
of the long dark GRB 050219A within the enhanced Swift/XRT error circle. We
used spectroscopic observations acquired with VLT/X-shooter to determine the
redshift and star-formation rate of the putative host galaxy. We compared the
results with the optical/IR spectral energy distribution obtained with
different facilities. Surprisingly, the host galaxy is a old and quiescent
early-type galaxy at z = 0.211 characterised by an unprecedentedly low specific
star-formation rate. It is the first LGRB host to be also an early-type
post-starburst galaxy. This is further evidence that GRBs can explode in all
kind of galaxies, with the only requirement being an episode of star-formation.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures, 3 tables; accepted for publication in Astronomy

Hand Foot and Mouth Disease in Adults - A Case Report
pouco usuais
Fluorescent biosensors based on silicon nanowires
Nanostructures are arising as novel biosensing platforms promising to surpass current performance in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and affordability of standard approaches. However, for several nanosensors, the material and synthesis used make the industrial transfer of such technologies complex. Silicon nanowires (NWs) are compatible with Si-based flat architecture fabrication and arise as a hopeful solution to couple their interesting physical properties and surface-to-volume ratio to an easy commercial transfer. Among all the transduction methods, fluorescent probes and sensors emerge as some of the most used approaches thanks to their easy data interpretation, measure affordability, and real-time in situ analysis. In fluorescent sensors, Si NWs are employed as substrate and coupled with several fluorophores, NWs can be used as quenchers in stem-loop configuration, and have recently been used for direct fluorescent sensing. In this review, an overview on fluorescent sensors based on Si NWs is presented, analyzing the literature of the field and highlighting the advantages and drawbacks for each strategy
Comparison of a Collective Intelligence Tailored Messaging System on Smoking Cessation Between African American and White People Who Smoke: Quasi-Experimental Design
BACKGROUND: The Patient Experience Recommender System for Persuasive Communication Tailoring (PERSPeCT) is a machine learning recommender system with a database of messages to motivate smoking cessation. PERSPeCT uses the collective intelligence of users (ie, preferences and feedback) and demographic and smoking profiles to select motivating messages. PERSPeCT may be more beneficial for tailoring content to minority groups influenced by complex, personally relevant factors.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to describe and evaluate the use of PERSPeCT in African American people who smoke compared with white people who smoke.
METHODS: Using a quasi-experimental design, we compared African American people who smoke with a historical cohort of white people who smoke, who both received up to 30 emailed tailored messages over 65 days. People who smoke rated the daily message in terms of perceived influence on quitting smoking for 30 days. Our primary analysis compared daily message ratings between the two groups using a t test. We used a logistic model to compare 30-day cessation between the two groups and adjusted for covariates.
RESULTS: The study included 119 people who smoke (African Americans, 55/119; whites, 64/119). At baseline, African American people who smoke were significantly more likely to report allowing smoking in the home (P=.002); all other characteristics were not significantly different between groups. Daily mean ratings were higher for African American than white people who smoke on 26 of the 30 days (P \u3c .001). Odds of quitting as measured by 30-day cessation were significantly higher for African Americans (odds ratio 2.3, 95% CI 1.04-5.53; P=.03) and did not change after adjusting for allowing smoking at home.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study highlighted the potential of using a recommender system to personalize for African American people who smoke.
