Evidence of ongoing radial migration in NGC 6754: Azimuthal variations of the gas properties

Understanding the nature of spiral structure in disk galaxies is one of the main, and still unsolved questions in galactic astronomy. However, theoretical works are proposing new testable predictions whose detection is becoming feasible with recent development in instrumentation. In particular, streaming motions along spiral arms are expected to induce azimuthal variations in the chemical composition of a galaxy at a given galactic radius. In this letter we analyse the gas content in NGC 6754 with VLT/MUSE data to characterise its 2D chemical composition and Hα\alpha line-of-sight velocity distribution. We find that the trailing (leading) edge of the NGC 6754 spiral arms show signatures of tangentially-slower, radially-outward (tangentially-faster, radially-inward) streaming motions of metal-rich (poor) gas over a large range of radii. These results show direct evidence of gas radial migration for the first time. We compare our results with the gas behaviour in a NN-body disk simulation showing spiral morphological features rotating with a similar speed as the gas at every radius, in good agreement with the observed trend. This indicates that the spiral arm features in NGC 6754 may be transient and rotate similarly as the gas does at a large range of radii.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL 2016 September 2

On the Absence of the Zeno Effect in Relativistic Quantum Field Theory

We study the time evolution of decaying particles in renormalizable models of Relativistic Quantum Field Theory. Significant differences between the latter and Non Relativistic Quantum Mechanics are found -in particular, the Zeno effect seems to be absent in such RQFT models. Conventional renormalization yields finite time behavior in some cases but fails to produce finite survival probabilities in others.Comment: Revised version of the paper Time evolution and Zeno effect in relativistic quantum field theory. To appear in Phys. Lett.

Specifically, the different academic levels are structured in skills to encourage greater transparency and connection to the workplace. In this context, our aim has been to discover whether the structure of the social Work Education Degree at the Coruña’ s University in skills has been perceived as a means to promote the employability of its graduates. So we've developed a research based on a sequential transformative strategy consists of the following phases: PHASE 1, initial approach to know what the situation, building approach to research and development of the framework; PHASE 2, empirical development, using a quantitative and a qualitative study in order to understand the reasons which led to the implementation of this model, its feasibility and significance of current university; PHASE 3, discussion of results and triangulation; and finally, PHASE 4, conclusion and reflection on their limitations and prospects

Architecture and evaluation of a unified V2V and V2I communication system based on cellular networks

Vehicle communications are becoming the cornerstone in the future vehicle equipment. More specifically, vehicle to vehicle communications (V2V) are the main object of researching nowadays, because vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) approximations are already being developed as commercial solutions. Cellular networks (CN) are usually applied in V2I solutions, whereas ad hoc networks are practically the only technology considered in V2V communications. Due to fact that CN are currently a reality and the operators are continuously improving the network, this communication technology could be considered as a candidate to deal with V2V necessities as well. The present paper defends the applicability of CN in the V2V field, and presents a novel communication paradigm for vehicles which unifies both V2V and V2I paradigms into one system. A peer to peer network technology has been used over the CN basis to create a group-based communication infrastructure which enables the message propagation among vehicles and between the car and the road side infrastructure. The architecture has been implemented in both hardware and software terms, and multitude of field tests have been carried out, whose main performance results are shown in the paper. The authors would like to thank the Spanish Ministerio the Educacion y Ciencia for sponsoring the research activities under the grant AP2005-1437, in frames of the FPU program, and to the financial support given by the European Spatial Agency (ESA) under the GIROADS 332599 project. Special thanks as well to the Spanish Ministerio the Fomento for its continuous support in vehicular researching

The complex structure of HH 110 as revealed from Integral Field Spectroscopy

HH 110 is a rather peculiar Herbig-Haro object in Orion that originates due to the deflection of another jet (HH 270) by a dense molecular clump, instead of being directly ejected from a young stellar object. Here we present new results on the kinematics and physical conditions of HH 110 based on Integral Field Spectroscopy. The 3D spectral data cover the whole outflow extent (~4.5 arcmin, ~0.6 pc at a distance of 460 pc) in the spectral range 6500-7000 \AA. We built emission-line intensity maps of Hα\alpha, [NII] and [SII] and of their radial velocity channels. Furthermore, we analysed the spatial distribution of the excitation and electron density from [NII]/Hα\alpha, [SII]/Hα\alpha, and [SII] 6716/6731 integrated line-ratio maps, as well as their behaviour as a function of velocity, from line-ratio channel maps. Our results fully reproduce the morphology and kinematics obtained from previous imaging and long-slit data. In addition, the IFS data revealed, for the first time, the complex spatial distribution of the physical conditions (excitation and density) in the whole jet, and their behaviour as a function of the kinematics. The results here derived give further support to the more recent model simulations that involve deflection of a pulsed jet propagating in an inhomogeneous ambient medium. The IFS data give richer information than that provided by current model simulations or laboratory jet experiments. Hence, they could provide valuable clues to constrain the space parameters in future theoretical works.Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures Accepted in MNRA
