Reducing Power Losses in Smart Grids with Cooperative Game Theory

    Get PDF
In a theoretical framework of game theory, one can distinguish between the noncooperative and the cooperative game theory. While the theory of noncooperative games is about modeling competitive behavior, cooperative game theory is dedicated to the study of cooperation among a number of players. The cooperative game theory includes mostly two branches: the Nash negotiation and the coalitional game theory. In this chapter, we restrict our attention to the latter. In recent years, the concept of efficient management of electric power has become more complex as a result of the high integration of distributed energy resources in the scenarios to be considered, mainly distributed generation, energy storage distributed, and demand management. This situation has been accentuated with the appearance of new consumption elements, such as electric vehicles, which could cause a high impact on distribution gridworks if they are not managed properly. This chapter presents an innovative approach toward an efficient energy model through the application of the theory of cooperative games with transferable utility in which the management, capacity, and control of distributed energy resources are integrated to provide optimal energy solutions that allow achieving significant savings in associated costs. This chapter presents a general description of the potential of the application of the theory to address Smart Grid, providing a systematic treatment

Arrested dynamics of the dipolar hard-sphere model

We report the combined results of molecular dynamics simulations and theoretical calculations concerning various dynamical arrest transitions in a model system representing a dipolar fluid, namely, N (softcore) rigid spheres interacting through a truncated dipole-dipole potential. By exploring different regimes of concentration and temperature, we find three distinct scenarios for the slowing down of the dynamics of the translational and orientational degrees of freedom: At low ({η\eta} = 0.2) and intermediate (η{\eta} = 0.4) volume fractions, both dynamics are strongly coupled and become simultaneously arrested upon cooling. At high concentrations ({η\eta} <\lt 0.6), the translational dynamics shows the features of an ordinary glass transition, either by compressing or cooling down the system, but with the orientations remaining ergodic, thus indicating the existence of partially arrested states. In this density regime, but at lower temperatures, the relaxation of the orientational dynamics also freezes. The physical scenario provided by the simulations is discussed and compared against results obtained with the self-consistent generalized Langevin equation theory, and both provide a consistent description of the dynamical arrest transitions in the system. Our results are summarized in an arrested states diagram which qualitatively organizes the simulation data and provides a generic picture of the glass transitions of a dipolar fluid

In the present work a semantic and diachronic analysis of the term camarada (‘comrade’) is carried out, from its origin in the sixteenth century in military contexts with the meaning of ‘soldier’, to its current use as a title of treatment linked to the communist party. This form was exported through its various meanings as a loan to Europe with the empire of Charles I and, after a process of stable variation in our language, it returned to Spanish as a semantic loan with different meanings: as ‘labourer’ (end of the 19th Century) and as ‘coreligionist’ (at the beginnings of the 20th Century). We claim that camarada had two births in the history of the Spanish language, and, therefore, it would become part of the repertoire of lexical resurrections recorded in our language. This phenomenon has been categorized in the theory of lexical change as temporal polygenesis. Likewise, the variation of camarada is analysed as a form of nominal treatment linked to an egalitarian social deixis frame, that is, to a symmetrical and reciprocal use of the pronominal pattern within the solidarity dimension.

Progression of regional lung strain and heterogeneity in lung injury: assessing the evolution under spontaneous breathing and mechanical ventilation

Indexación ScopusBackground: Protective mechanical ventilation (MV) aims at limiting global lung deformation and has been associated with better clinical outcomes in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients. In ARDS lungs without MV support, the mechanisms and evolution of lung tissue deformation remain understudied. In this work, we quantify the progression and heterogeneity of regional strain in injured lungs under spontaneous breathing and under MV. Methods: Lung injury was induced by lung lavage in murine subjects, followed by 3 h of spontaneous breathing (SB-group) or 3 h of low Vt mechanical ventilation (MV-group). Micro-CT images were acquired in all subjects at the beginning and at the end of the ventilation stage following induction of lung injury. Regional strain, strain progression and strain heterogeneity were computed from image-based biomechanical analysis. Three-dimensional regional strain maps were constructed, from which a region-of-interest (ROI) analysis was performed for the regional strain, the strain progression, and the strain heterogeneity. Results: After 3 h of ventilation, regional strain levels were significantly higher in 43.7% of the ROIs in the SB-group. Significant increase in regional strain was found in 1.2% of the ROIs in the MV-group. Progression of regional strain was found in 100% of the ROIs in the SB-group, whereas the MV-group displayed strain progression in 1.2% of the ROIs. Progression in regional strain heterogeneity was found in 23.4% of the ROIs in the SB-group, while the MV-group resulted in 4.7% of the ROIs showing significant changes. Deformation progression is concurrent with an increase of non-aerated compartment in SB-group (from 13.3% ± 1.6% to 37.5% ± 3.1%), being higher in ventral regions of the lung. Conclusions: Spontaneous breathing in lung injury promotes regional strain and strain heterogeneity progression. In contrast, low Vt MV prevents regional strain and heterogeneity progression in injured lungs. © 2020, The Author(s).https://annalsofintensivecare.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s13613-020-00725-
