    Towards Distributed Convoy Pattern Mining

Mining movement data to reveal interesting behavioral patterns has gained attention in recent years. One such pattern is the convoy pattern which consists of at least m objects moving together for at least k consecutive time instants where m and k are user-defined parameters. Existing algorithms for detecting convoy patterns, however do not scale to real-life dataset sizes. Therefore a distributed algorithm for convoy mining is inevitable. In this paper, we discuss the problem of convoy mining and analyze different data partitioning strategies to pave the way for a generic distributed convoy pattern mining algorithm.Comment: SIGSPATIAL'15 November 03-06, 2015, Bellevue, WA, US

\ud \ud Lantana viburnoides sp viburnoides var kisi is used in Tanzania ethnobotanically to repel mosquitoes as well as in traditional medicine for stomach ache relief. Bioassay-guided fractionation and subtraction bioassays of the dichloromethane extract of the root barks were carried out in order to identify the bioactive components for controlling Anopheles gambiae s.s. mosquito larvae. Twenty late III or early IV instar larvae of An. gambiae s.s. were exposed to various concentrations of the plant extracts, fractions, blends and pure compounds, and were assayed in the laboratory by using the protocol of WHO 1996. Mean mortalities were compared using Dunnett's test (p < 0.05) and lethal concentration calculated by Lackfit Inversel of the SAS programme. The crude extract (LC50 = 7.70 ppm in 72 h) and fractions exhibited different level of mosquito larvicidal activity with subtraction of some fractions resulting in activity enhancement. The active fractions contained furanonaphthaquinones regio-isomers (LC50 = 5.48-5.70 ppm in 72 h) and the lantadene triterpenoid camaric acid (LC50 = 6.19 ppm in 72 h) as active principles while the lupane triterpenoid betulinic acid (LC50 < 10 ppm in 72 h) was obtained from the least active fraction. Crude extracts and some fractions had higher or comparable larvicidal activity to the pure compounds. These results demonstrate that L. viburnoides sp viburnoides var kisi extracts may serve as larvicides for managing various mosquito habitats even in their semi-purified form. The isolated compounds can be used as distinct markers in the active extracts or plant materials belonging to the genus Lantana

EUROlinkCAT: A linked European cohort of children with congenital anomalies

    Get PDF
Objective To establish a linked European cohort of children with congenital anomalies (CAs) to evaluate mortality and morbidity outcomes of these children up to the age of 10 years. Method EUROlinkCAT supported 22 EUROCAT population-based congenital anomaly registries in 14 countries to link their data on children with CAs to mortality, vital statistics, hospital discharge and prescription databases. All live births with a CA born 1995-2014 recorded in the registries were followed up to age 10 years or to 31st December 2015. Each registry transformed their local mortality and morbidity data to a Common Data Model (CDM) and ran centrally created syntax scripts and produced tables/outputs in a standard form for meta-analysis. Analyses were performed on 100 different congenital anomaly subgroups for children <1 year,1-4 years, and 5-9 years. Results Sixteen registries linked their data on children with CAs to mortality databases, eleven to regional/national hospital databases, and six to prescription databases. Data on children without a CA born during the same time-period and from the same population area (reference population) were available for seven registries linking to hospital databases and for all six registries linking to prescription databases. For the mortality studies, linked information on survival was available for 96% of children recorded in the anomaly registries (180,00 live births). For the morbidity studies, 89% of children with a CA (n=99,000) and 95% of reference children (n=2 million) were linked. For the prescription studies, 95% of children with a CA (n=60,000) and 95% of reference children (n= 1,700,000) were linked. Conclusion The EUROlinkCAT project was successful in creating a linked cohort of children with and without CAs in Western Europe. More efforts are needed to support data linkage in Eastern European countries. We have developed a set of recommendations for data linkage studies based on our experiences in establishing this cohort

Reiki is one of the complementary therapies that are used to decrease blood glucose level. The therapy transfers naturalenergy into the patient\u27s body to synchronize the energy imbalance in the body. The research to examine the effect of Reiki andthe role of the stress and weight factor to decrease blood glucose level of DM type 2 patients was held in a hospital-baseddiabetic club in Jakarta. The design of this study was pre-experimental with the one-group pretest-posttest design. Eighteenpatients were selected with the purposive sampling technique. Reiki therapy was performed in 30 days using two methods:direct and distant healing method. The result revealed that there was a significant difference in random blood glucose levelbefore and after the Reiki intervention (p= 0.000; α= 0.05). It is recommended to incorporate the Reiki therapy in nursingcare

Optomechanically induced optical trapping system based on photonic crystal cavities

Optical trapping has proven to be a valuable experimental technique for precisely controlling small dielectric objects. However, due to their very nature, conventional optical traps are diffraction limited and require high intensities to confine the dielectric objects. In this work, we propose a novel optical trap based on dielectric photonic crystal nanobeam cavities, which overcomes the limitations of conventional optical traps by significant factors. This is achieved by exploiting an optomechanically induced backaction mechanism between a dielectric nanoparticle and the cavities. We perform numerical simulations to show that our trap can fully levitate a submicron-scale dielectric particle with a trap width as narrow as 56 nm. It allows for achieving a high trap stiffness, therefore, a high Q-frequency product for the particle's motion while reducing the optical absorption by a factor of 43 compared to the cases for conventional optical tweezers. Moreover, we show that multiple laser tones can be used further to create a complex, dynamic potential landscape with feature sizes well below the diffraction limit. The presented optical trapping system offers new opportunities for precision sensing and fundamental quantum experiments based on levitated particles
