TÜRKİYE’DE YEREL GAZETE YÖNETİCİLERİNİN MESLEK ETİĞİ ALGISI
Topluma karşı sorumluluk bilinci ile hareket etmesi gereken medyanın etik değerler çerçevesinde işlevini yerine getirmesi hiç kuşkusuz ki hayati bir önem taşımaktadır. Medyayı kullanan kitlenin, medya örgütlerine duydukları güvenin tesisinde ya da tam tersi güven erezyonunda medyanın etik değerlere ne kadar bağlı kaldığı belirleyici olmaktadır. Bu çalışma, yerel basın kuruluşlarının yönetim kadrosunun perspktifinden etik konusunu ele almaktadır. Başka bir anlatımla, etik konusunda olayın öznesini merkeze koymaktadır. Söz konusu bu çalışma, hem Türkiye’deki yerel basın kuruluşlarının ana hatlarıyla genel yapısını ortaya koymaya hem de bu kuruluşların perspektfinden etik olgusunu tartışmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın kuramsal bölümünde literatür taraması ile elde edilen bilgiler ışığında; etik, medya ve etik, gazetecilikte etik sorunlar gibi konular ele alınmaktadır. Uygulama bölümünde ise 9 kentte, 55 yerel gazetenin genel yayın yönetmeni ya da yazı işleri müdürü statüsündeki yöneticilerine 27 sorudan oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışma kapsamında gerçekleştirilen anket, pratikte etik olgusunun Türkiye’deki yerel basın tarafından nasıl algılandığı konusunda önemli ipuçları vermektedir
Volatile Compounds, Bioactive Properties and Chlorophylls Contents in Dried Spearmint (Mentha spicata L.) as Affected by Different Drying Methods
This study presents a comparison of the quality characteristics of spearmint (Mentha spicata L.) dried by a photovoltaic thermal dryer (PVT), the shade dried spearmint (SDS), and an oven dried spearmint (ODS). The obtained samples were evaluated with respect to volatile compounds (VC), total phenolic content (TPC) and flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant capacity (AC) and chlorophylls (Chl) contents. PDS had the highest amount of TPC, TFC and AC, while SDS and ODS did not differ significantly from each other in terms of these features. SDS exhibited the highest Chl a and Chl b contents, whereas ODS showed the lowest. The composition of VC in the dried spearmints was significantly affected by the drying methods used. The total amount of terpenoids, especially carvone, responsible for spearmint’s characteristic aroma in SDS was higher than those of the others, while the concentrations of most VC were lowest in ODS. According to the results, the PVT can be recommended for drying spearmint
Designing of a New Type Air-Water Cooled Photovoltaic Collector
The importance of photovoltaic-thermal (PV / T) collector systems in renewable energy technologies is increasing for combined hybrid electrical heat applications. The efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) systems varies between 5-20%. On average, 15% of the solar radiation coming to the PV panel surface is converted to electrical energy and the remainder is lost. In this study, a PV/T collector was designed using two different fluids simultaneously and its efficiency was calculated numerically. PV/T collector systems are specifically designed for agricultural production and their advantages are discussed. In this study, numerical calculations of PV/T collector with a different design have been made. The results were compared with reference to another experimental study. Two different working fluids (air and water) were used in the calculations. The system where air is used as working fluid is called Mode 1 and the system where water is used is called Mode 2. It is aimed to achieve high heat transfer by using water pipes, air ducts and fins placed under PV panels. In this way, it is aimed to produce a more stable hot air and water. In addition, in order to investigate the effect of flow on the yield, different flow rates were calculated. As a result of the theoretical analyses and calculations made in consideration of literature, the total efficiencies of air flow mode (Mode 1) were calculated as 43.2%, 46,2% and 48.7% at 0.0067 kg/s, 0.0072 kg/s and 0.0077 kg/s mass flow rates, respectively. For water flow mode (Mode 2), these values computed as 52.81%, 53.83% and 55.04% at 0.023 kg/s, 0.036 kg/s and 0.054 kg/s mass flow rates, respectively. It was found that PV / T collector efficiency increased with increasing end flow. Designed collector system is preferable in terms of effective use of energy and it can be easily applicable in processes such as hot air-water preparation, drying and greenhouse heating
New and Simple Approach for Preventing Postoperative Peritoneal Adhesions: Do not Touch the Peritoneum without Viscous Liquid—A Multivariate Analysis
Background. Postoperative peritoneal adhesions (PPAs) are an unsolved and serious problem in abdominal surgery. Method. Viscous liquids of soybean oil, octyl methoxycinnamate, flax oil, aloe vera gel, and glycerol were used in five experiments, using the same methodology for each. Liquids were applied in the peritoneal cavity before and after mechanical peritoneal trauma. Results were evaluated by multivariate analysis. Results. Compared with the control group, macroscopic and microscopic adhesion values before (P < .001) and after (P < .05) application of viscous liquids significantly reduced PPAs. Values were significantly lower when liquids were applied before rather than after peritoneal trauma (P < .0001). Discussion. Viscous liquids injected into the peritoneal cavity before or after mechanical peritoneal trauma decrease PPA. Injection before trauma was more effective than after trauma. In surgical practice, PPA formation may be prevented or decreased by covering the peritoneal cavity with an appropriate viscous liquid before abdominal surgery
Paranasal Sinus Anatomic Variations Accompanying Maxillary Sinus Retention Cysts: A Radiological Analysis
Objective:The risk factors for the development of retention cysts of the maxillary sinuses (RCMs) are not clear, although RCMs are common findings on radiographic images. This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between RCMs and other nasal-paranasal anomalies and to demonstrate the possible effects of these anomalies on the development of RCMs.Methods:In the study, paranasal sinus computerized tomography (PNsCT) images from 5166 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Correlations between RCMs and osteomeatal complex obstruction, accessory ostium presence, abnormalities of the middle turbinate, and nasal septal deviation were analyzed in the PNsCT images. The paranasal sinus anomalies on the side of the RCMs were compared to the contralateral side.Results:A total of 1880 RCMs were detected in 1429 (27.6%) of 5166 patients. At least one nasal-paranasal sinus anomaly was associated with 88.7% of the RCMs. In the descending order, accessory ostium presence, accessory ostium, middle turbinate anomalies, and nasal septal deviation are pathologies that accompany RCMs. When unilateral RCMs were compared with the normal side, significant correlations were observed between RCMs and osteomeatal complex obstruction, accessory ostium, and middle turbinate anomalies (p=0.001, p=0.016, and p=0.03, respectively). RCMs were commonly found on the same side as osteomeatal complex obstruction (p=0.001), middle turbinate anomalies (p=0.001), and accessory ostium (p=0.052).Conclusions:In this study, the coexistence of osteomeatal complex obstruction, accessory ostium, middle turbinate anomalies, and nasal septum deviation with RCMs was analyzed by investigating PNsCT findings in 5166 patients. The results show that RCMs are associated with pathologies that increase paranasal inflammation, such as osteomeatal complex obstruction, and are good markers for nasal-paranasal sinus anomalies. The presence of incidental RCMs should be a warning sign of nasal-paranasal sinus anomalies
TAY-SACHS HASTALIĞI BULUNAN BİR ERKEK ÇOCUĞUNDA MANYETİK REZONANS GÖRÜNTÜLEME BULGULARI
Tay-Sachs is a neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disease that is caused by the mutations in the HEXA gene. Decreased ß-hexosaminidase A activity leads to the accumulation of the GM2 gangliosides in neuron cytoplasms and causes progressive neurologic dysfunction. Magnetic resonance imaging findings drastically change during the progression of the disease. At the early stage of the disease T2 weighted images demonstrate hyperintense lesions in basal ganglia or non-specific findings. In the late phase of the disease cerebral and cerebellar atrophy, and basal ganglia and white matter T2 hyperintensities can be seen. In this paper, we reported a 17 month-old boy with Tay-Sachs disease whose clinical and magnetic resonance imaging findings progressed in 5 months period. Tay-Sachs HEXA genindeki mutasyonların neden olduğu nörodejeneratif bir lizozomal depo hastalığıdır. ß-heksosaminidaz A aktivitesinin düşüklüğü nedeniyle nöron sitoplazmalarında GM2 gangliozid birikimi ve bunun sonucunda da ilerleyici nörolojik disfonksiyon gelişir. Hastalığın progresyonu ile birlikte beyin manyetik rezonans görüntüleme bulguları da dramatik olarak değişir. Hastalığın erken dönemlerinde bazal ganglionlarda T2 ağırlıklı görüntülerde belirgin hiperintens lezyonlar ya da spesifik olmayan bulgular görülebilir. Hastalığı geç dönemlerinde ise serebral ve serebellar atrofi, bazal ganglion ve beyaz cevherde T2 hiperintens lezyonlar görülebilir. Bu makalede 5 aylık bir sürede klinik ve manyetik rezonans görüntüleme bulguları ilerleyen 17 aylık bir TAY-Sachs hastalığı olgusu sunulmuştu
Investigation of the external and internal training loads in soccer players
Amaç: Antrenman yükü kavramı son dönemlerde yaygın şekilde kullanılan kavramların başında gelmektedir. Bu kavram sporcuların maruz kaldığı dış yüklerin (kat edilen mesafe, şut ya da atış sayısı v.b) sporcularda yarattığı iç yükler (fizyolojik cevaplar) olarak bilinmektedir. Bu çalışma, Antrenmanda elde edilen algılanan zorluk derecesi (AAZD) değerleri ile farklı hızlarda kat edilen mesafe değerleri arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Bu çalışmaya Türkiye Birinci liginde oynayan 11 (yaş = 22,7 ± 2,3; boy= 177,6±7,1; 65± 8 ) profesyonel futbolcu gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Sporcuların kuvvet antrenmanı dışında tüm saha antrenmanlarında GPsport (Cambera) cihazı ile yük takipleri yapılmıştır. Sezon başında gerçekleştirilen iki ayrı kamp sürecinde toplam 16 antrenmandan veri alınmıştır. Çalışmada kalecilere yer verilmezken, dört savunma, 5 orta saha ve 2 hücum oyuncusu dahil edilmiştir. Bu takipte sporcuların değişik hızarda kat ettikleri mesafeler ile onluk algılanan zorluk derecesi ve antrenman süresinin çarpımından elde edilen antrenmanın algılanan zorluk derecesi (AAZD) belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen değerler arasındaki ilişkilere Pearson korelasyon testi ile her bir sporcu için tek tek bakılmıştır.
Bulgular: Sonuçlar incelendiğinde AAZD değerleri ile kat edilen mesafe değerleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir (p> .05).
Sonuç: Bu sonuçlar göz önünde bulundurulduğunda futbolcuların antrenmanda algıladıkları zorluk derecesi ile kat edilen mesafeler arasında ilişki olmadığı ve algılanan zorluk derecesi farklı faktörlerin etkilemiş olabileceği söylenebilir. Bu neden ile antrenörlerin, spor bilimcilerin ve sağlık heyetlerinin bu değerlerin her birini kendi içinde değerlendirmesi gerektiği düşünülmektedir.The concept of training load is one of the most widely used concepts in recent
years. This concept is known as the internal loads (physiological responses) created by the
athletes during the external loads (distance covered, number of shots per shot, etc.) exposed
by the athletes. This study was aimed to determine the relationships between the external and
internal training loads in soccer players.
Method: Eleven male soccer players (age = 22,7 ± 2,3 years; height = 177,6±7,1 cm) from an
professional football club participated voluntarily in this study. In exception the strength
training of the athletes, the GPsport (Cambera) device was used for 16 trainings in camp
duration in all field workouts. Covered distance at various speeds and Rating of Perceived
Exertion responses of soccer players (SRPE) were determined. The correlations between the
values obtained were examined individually for each athlete by Pearson correlation test.
Results: When the results were examined, and there is no relation between the external loads
and internal loads
Cholesteatoma of the concha bullosa: a case report
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Cholesteatoma is a relatively common disease within the middle ear cavity, but rarely it manifests in the paranasal sinuses. There is, to the best of our knowledge, only one other published case of cholesteatoma inside the concha bullosa in the English language literature.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>An 81-year-old Caucasian woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of nasal obstruction, headache and diplopia. After endoscopic and radiological evaluation a transnasal endoscopic approach was chosen. The diagnosis of cholesteatoma was established by histopathological evaluation of the mass inside the concha bullosa.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Although it is rarely seen, cholesteatoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of slow-growing and destructive paranasal masses.</p
Effects of rootstocks on storage and shelf life of grafted watermelons
Watermelon fruits from non-grafted or grafted ‘Crimson Tide’ (CT) and ‘Crisby’ (CR) onto Ferro, RS841, Argentario and Macis rootstocks were compared for their postharvest quality during storage at 7 °C for 21 days and additional 7 days at 21 °C. Non-grafted and grafted CT and CR fruits did not exhibit chilling injury (CI) symptoms, but the 1-2% of fungal decay occurred after shelf life period following storage. Watermelons grafted on Ferro and RS841 rootstocks had higher flesh firmness thicker rind, lower ripening rating, more intense (higher C*) brighter red (lower h° value) color and higher lycopene content after shelf life period following storage, compared to non-grafted fruits. All of the fruit tested by the panelists received high taste scores of >7.9 out of 8.5 at the beginning, but the scores decreased to >6.8 out of 7.7 at the end of shelf life period. Watermelons could successfully be kept for 21 days at 7 °C and additional 7 days at 21 °C. Watermelons grafted on Ferro and RS841 rootstocks had higher postharvest quality, compared to the non-grafted fruits for both cultivars
