We analyze Dr. Bellido"s discourse at the Spanish National Library in Madrid (1927) in the framework of what has been called Medical Catalanism. Further development of this case study will provide a better understanding of Catalan as a scientific language, the importance of the role played by Catalan publishing industry and the cultural and political relationship between Madrid and Barcelona

Einstein (1905): una commemoració imprescindible

El febrer de 1902 Albert Einstein (1879-1955) va establir-se a Berna. A l'Oficina Suïssa de Patents d'aquesta ciutat va obtenir el juny del mateix any una còmoda i desitjada feina com a perit tècnic de tercera classe. Poc després, a primers de gener de 1903, es va casar amb Mileva Maric (1875-1948), que havia estat companya seva d'estudis universitaris a la prestigiosa Eidgenössische Polytechnische Schule (Escola Politècnica Federal) de Zuric, més coneguda amb les sigles ETH. Tot eren bones perspectives. En una carta a Michele Besso (1873-1955), datada pocs dies després del casament, Einstein va escriure: 'Ara sóc un home casat i porto una vida molt agradable amb la meva esposa. Ella s'ocupa perfectament de tot, cuina bé i sempre està alegre.

En el món de la investigació històrica, hi ha molts treballs que se centren en l'anàlisi de documents. En la història antiga o medieval, un document únic pot arribar a adquirir una importància cabdal, donada l'escassesa extrema de rastres. Tanmateix, no és tan freqüent que un sol document sigui la font principal d'informació d'un episodi històric contemporani. Albert Einstein estigué a Barcelona del 22 de febrer a l'1 de març de 1923 fent un curs a l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans. Després anà a Madrid a repetir el curs i, finalment, abans de tornar a Berlín, féu un parell de conferències a Saragossa. L'estada d'Einstein a Espanya tingué un gran ressò i ha suscitat molts treballs, tot i que encara hi ha molt a dir quant a la valoració de la seva presència entre nosaltres
