Los historiadores encuentran útiles los resúmenes que abrevian estudios amplios en contenido y periodos, de modo que reflexionando sobre mi publicación que trata los retos de la sociedad democrática a través de la observación de la sociedad y de la cultura, tengo la oportunidad de trasladar las referencias principales a consideraciones historiográficas generales. Limitations of the Standard Procedure for the Evaluation of Marble and Limestone for Use in Construction: A Critical Analysis and Proposal for Modification

The selection of natural stone for each specific use must be based on determinations which assess their technical quality and ensure their suitability for the environment in which they will be utilized. Among the criteria to be considered, a petrographic characterization is basic to deduce the behaviour of the stone to external agents. Current European regulations for the valuation and use of a stone present serious constraints in connection with the petrographic characterization and with the definition of some of the technological tests, which can endanger the suitability of a stone for use in construction. Two commercial limestones and one marble, are studied following the existing European Standards, to explain reasonably the behavior of these materials and deduce the most appropriate uses. Finally the results lead to certain recommendations to modify existing regulations

Strategic assessment of transport infrastructure Plans on European integration. Application for the Spanish Strategic Transport and Infrastructure Plan 2005-2020

Traditional transport infrastructure assessment methodologies rarely include the full range of strategic benefits for the transportation system. One of these benefits is the contribution to cross-border integration. However, this is a key issue in strategic planning and decision-making processes, as its inclusion may increase the probability of large-scale transport infrastructure projects being funded. This paper presents a methodology for the measurement of the contribution of Transport Infrastructure Plans to cross-border integration. The methodology is based on the measurement of the improvement in network efficiency in cross-border regions of neighboring countries, via accessibility calculations in a Geographical Information System (GIS) support. The methodology was tested by applying it to the ambitious road and rail network extensions included in the Spanish Strategic Transport and Infrastructure Plan (PEIT) 2005-2020. The results show significant and important network efficiency improvements of the PEIT outside the Spanish border. For the road mode, while the Spanish average accessibility improvement accounts for 2.6%, average improvements in cross-border regions of France and Portugal are of 1.8%. And for the rail mode, the corresponding Spanish value is 34.5%, whereas in neighboring regions it accounts for 20.2%. These results stress the significant importance of this strategic benefit and the consequent need for its inclusion in strategic planning processes. Finally, the paper identifies the potential of the methodology when applied at different administrative levels, such as the local or state levels

El lenguaje cortesano en la traducción de la correspondencia habida entre Luis XIV y Felipe V en el contexto de la Guerra de Sucesión a la Corona Española

Este artículo supone la presentación de los primeros resultados prácticos de investigación obtenidos en 2006 referentes al estudio de la correspondencia mantenida entre Luis XIV y Felipe V durante los primeros años del siglo XVIII. Este primer estudio se desarrolló en tres fases. En primer lugar, llevamos a cabo un análisis riguroso y pormenorizado de los componentes estilístico y formal presentes en el corpus epistolar objeto de examen. Dicho análisis nos permitió establecer, en una segunda etapa, una categorización exacta de las características propias del “lenguaje cortesano” más significativo del Versalles y el Madrid de la época. Y, basándonos en los resultados obtenidos en estas dos primera fases, pudimos, finalmente, elaborar unos patrones de actuación previos que nos permitieran realizar una traducción coherente y sistemática de la correspondencia mantenida entre ambos monarcas en el contexto de la Guerra de Sucesión a la Corona española, hecho histórico cuya repercusión es conocida de todos.G.I. Spanish’s experience on improving inspection of sprayers: official manual for ISO 16122 and ISO 16119

Mandatory inspections in Spain are organized following ISO 16122. In order to guarantee a clear and comprehensive inspection’s procedure in all of the official inspection’s workshops, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture published an official inspection’s manual based on ISO 16122 in order to improve and harmonize the process. On the other hand, and considering the more and more cases of new sprayers with difficulties to fulfill the mandatory inspections requirements, an official manual for sprayer’s manufacturers have been published in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (ANSEMAT) giving them a practical document to fulfill the requirements established in ISO 16119. Both documents have been written by the research team of UMA-UPC.
