Influence of environmental factors on properties changes of packaging materials made from polyethylene

    No full text
In this research, properties change of packaging materials made from low density polyethylene and high density polyethylene under the influence of environmental factors was investigated. Samples of four packaging materials: bags made on the basis of low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polyethylene made of secondary stocks and high density polyethylene distributed in „The Body Shop“ stores, which has materials, stimulating its fast decomposition influenced by the environmental factors were chosen for the analysis. The analysis of the initial samples of all four types of packaging materials aged in soil for 500 and 1000 hours was carried out. For the evaluation of soil impact on glass transition temperature (Tg) and mass loss of all studied packaging materials differential scanning calorimeter DSC method was used; also, the change of density and water sorption of these samples was investigatedVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

This paper analyzes the high relevance of material selection for the sustainable development of an LED weatherproof light fitting. The research reveals how this choice modifies current and future end of life scenarios and can reduce the overall environmental impact. This life cycle assessment has been carried out with Ecotool, a software program especially developed for designers to assess the environmental performance of their designs at the same time that they are working on them. Results show that special attention can be put on the recycling and reusing of the product from the initial stages of development
