Abstract. The present study compares the pollen spectra from the Hirst type pollen trap and nearby located Tauber traps installed in different vegetations in order to gain knowledge on the pollen vegetation relationship and to assess whether the deposited pollen is in accordance with airborne pollen concentrations. The modern pollen spectra have been monitored over 2016 year in Moscow Region, Russia. Four Tauber traps were installed in different vegetation types: in birch and mixed forests, in the semi-open area (spruce forest) and in open area on peat bog. A comparison between pollen percentages retrieved from Tauber and Hirst type pollen trap shows mostly similar pollen spectra. The spectra from both traps are mostly similar in regard to major taxa. Betula, Pinus and Alnus predominate in the spectra of both traps. The Tauber spectra are characterized by higher taxonomic variability due to greater occurrence of local herbaceous plants. The spectra from Tauber and Hirst type traps represent both local and regional vegetation well

    FRAGmentality

Contemporary art is dedicated to the conversation between the past and the present, the established and the experimental; it becomes more and more trans-border, as life itself. Nowadays, people live in the world, where their beliefs, ideas, politics, and religion are constantly colliding. The more people expand boundaries and develop connections, the more complex and tangled our society becomes as a system. FRAGmentality presents a set of mixed media pieces incorporating painting, weaving, embroidery and three-dimensional elements dedicated to these contradictions in the modern society. It deals with structures within Social relations and human nature. Being a representative of a small indigenous ethnic group called Udmurts, Elena Volkova has always been interested in the astonishing correlation between one’s ability to segregate from the others and, at the same time, the instinctive desire to belong to a group, which is indissolubly bounded with the idea of home and belonging. The show investigates the complexity and fragmentation of human memory and perception through personal multicultural experience

Situation of Leningrad Children Evacuated from the Besieged City in Yaroslavl Region (1941–1945)

Introduction. The siege of Leningrad is one of the most tragic pages in the history of the Great Patriotic War. The whole country took part in helping residents of the besieged city. Yaroslavl Region was one of the leading places where tens of thousands of children were evacuated. Methods and materials. The author seeks to implement the principles of scientific objectivity and reliability. The article is based on the memories of eyewitnesses of those years and archival materials. The author had an invaluable help in understanding the atmosphere in which children lived through confidential conversations with survivors of the blockade. Their stories are shocking in their naked truth. The author uses the comparative historical method in disclosing new, qualitative aspects of the problem under study. The hermeneutic method is used in the analysis of various sources: archival materials, memories, letters, first of all, based on time and reasons for the appearance of a particular source. The anthropological approach to the problem makes it possible to create a socio-psychological portrait of children, who by fate turned out to be far from their home, to recreate a picture of their life and everyday life. Analysis. It includes the problems associated with the children evacuation in July–August 1941 and especially in winter–spring 1942, raises the issue of child mortality and the perpetuation of their memory. Results. A major role in the organization of children’s life was played by the party and the Soviet leadership. The article notes that ordinary workers and collective farms took the successful solution of domestic problems of orphans. They provided children with everything they needed: home, food, clothes, shoes, dishes, etc. In addition, citizens took children on patronage and adoption. The methods of educational work with them had changed, where one of the main directions was the inculcation of labour skills: children worked in their farms, helped collective farms, cleaned their homes, were engaged in needlework, worked in workshops, etc. The desire to live and create was instilled in Leningrad by attracting citizens to participate in art performances. Big problems are connected with statistical data, in particular, different sources give different numbers of children living on the territory of Yaroslavl region: from 90 to 150 thousand. It is almost impossible to count the number of dead children, so the established monuments to small Leningraders, as a rule, are nameless. After the lifting of the blockade some children returned to Leningrad, and some linked their destinies with Yaroslavl land

The architectural image of the village of Purekh in the Chkalovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region is considered. Its spatial structure is formed by a system of dominants consisting of a different ensemble of religious buildings, stone churches: Preobrazhenskaya (XVII century), Dukhovskaya (1904), Nikolskaya (1864), Nativity of the Virgin (1854) on the historical Lenin street - the compositional axis of the village, and low-rise rural estate development. The degree of preservation of the historical and urban environment of Purekh is high, the metrorhythmic composition of Lenin Street is an example of the morphotypic preservation of fragments of the Russian village architectural environment of the beginning of the 20th century, the compositional center of which is formed by the elements of the religious buildings ensemble. The comprehensive analysis of the architectural appearance of the Purekh religious buildings ensemble included: an assessment of the village town planning layout taking into account thelandscape; thelocation of church buildings in the structure of the settlement, their interaction with each other, the hierarchy in the compositional and artistic decision of the ensemble, the definition of dominance visibility basins, the main panoramas, the silhouette of religious buildings, the morphotypes of background buildings; history, features of location, spatial planning decisions, stylistics, decor of each monument. The study introduces data on the religious buildings of Purekh, monuments of the 17th - early 20th centuries, into scientific usage on the basis of analysis of archival, design, literary and other sources, photo-fixation of objects, and their graphic reconstruction. Results can form the basis of documents for the reconstruction and restoration of objects, which will increase the attractiveness of Purekh for residents, tourists and investors

An efficient methodology for modeling complex computer codes with Gaussian processes

    Get PDF
Complex computer codes are often too time expensive to be directly used to perform uncertainty propagation studies, global sensitivity analysis or to solve optimization problems. A well known and widely used method to circumvent this inconvenience consists in replacing the complex computer code by a reduced model, called a metamodel, or a response surface that represents the computer code and requires acceptable calculation time. One particular class of metamodels is studied: the Gaussian process model that is characterized by its mean and covariance functions. A specific estimation procedure is developed to adjust a Gaussian process model in complex cases (non linear relations, highly dispersed or discontinuous output, high dimensional input, inadequate sampling designs, ...). The efficiency of this algorithm is compared to the efficiency of other existing algorithms on an analytical test case. The proposed methodology is also illustrated for the case of a complex hydrogeological computer code, simulating radionuclide transport in groundwater

Global sensitivity analysis for models with spatially dependent outputs

    Get PDF
International audienceThe global sensitivity analysis of a complex numerical model often calls for the estimation of variance-based importance measures, named Sobol' indices. Metamodel-based techniques have been developed in order to replace the cpu time-expensive computer code with an inexpensive mathematical function, which predicts the computer code output. The common metamodel-based sensitivity analysis methods are well-suited for computer codes with scalar outputs. However, in the environmental domain, as in many areas of application, the numerical model outputs are often spatial maps, which may also vary with time. In this paper, we introduce an innovative method to obtain a spatial map of Sobol' indices with a minimal number of numerical model computations. It is based upon the functional decomposition of the spatial output onto a wavelet basis and the metamodeling of the wavelet coefficients by the Gaussian process. An analytical example is presented to clarify the various steps of our methodology. This technique is then applied to a real hydrogeological case: for each model input variable, a spatial map of Sobol' indices is thus obtained

Effect of luminescence transport through adipose tissue on measurement of tissue temperature by using ZnCdS nanothermometers

    Get PDF
The spectra of luminescence of ZnCdS nanoparticles (ZnCdS NPs) were measured and analyzed in a wide temperature range: from room to human body and further to a hyperthermic temperature resulting in tissue morphology change. The results show that the signal of luminescence of ZnCdS NPs placed within the tissue is reasonably good sensitive to temperature change and accompanied by phase transitions of lipid structures of adipose tissue. It is shown that the presence of a phase transition in adipose tissue upon its heating (polymorphic transformations of lipids) leads to a nonmonotonic temperature dependence of the intensity of luminescence for the nanoparticles introduced into adipose tissue. This is due to a change in the light scattering by the tissue. The light scattering of adipose tissue greatly distorts the results of temperature measurements. The application of these nanoparticles is possible for temperature measurements in very thin or weakly scattering samples
