A mobile library management system provides a more efficient way of managing library processes and rendering effective library services irrespective of time and place. This research work aimed to develop a Mobile Library Management System for the Nile University of Nigeria Library to overcome the challenges that hinder the librarians from managing the library processes on the go. The android mobile library management system was developed using Android Studio, HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQLi database. Service Responsibility Table was used in eliciting and documenting the user’s requirements for the library management system. The proposed Android-based mobile library system was evaluated through a survey by the librarians. The evaluation has shown that the proposed system is capable of complementing the existing library management systems

Small and medium-sized enterprise: prioritization of Internet bandwidth needs for business purposes

The use of internet bandwidth has become very important to the increasing number of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). Regrettably, many employees are prone to abuse their unlimited internet access at work for non-work related purposes. Policies and monitoring of employee internet bandwidth use increase a firm’s productivity. Unfortunately, trust issues between a company and its employees significantly affect the latter’s organizational commitment and turnover intentions. This research proposes a model which allows employees to use their organization’s internet bandwidth at work for work as well as non-work purposes while at the same time effectively utilizing the internet bandwidth for work purposes. This paper presents a firm’s effective bandwidth utilization conceptual model which has been developed and tested statistically, and it also compares the resulting findings with the leading empirical studies in this domain

Expanding the clinical and immunological phenotypes of PAX1-deficient SCID and CID patients

Paired box 1 (PAX1) deficiency has been reported in a small number of patients diagnosed with otofaciocervical syndrome type 2 (OFCS2). We described six new patients who demonstrated variable clinical penetrance. Reduced transcriptional activity of pathogenic variants confirmed partial or complete PAX1 deficiency. Thymic aplasia and hypoplasia were associated with impaired T cell immunity. Corrective treatment was required in 4/6 patients. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation resulted in poor immune reconstitution with absent naïve T cells, contrasting with the superior recovery of T cell immunity after thymus transplantation. Normal ex vivo differentiation of PAX1-deficient CD34+ cells into mature T cells demonstrated the absence of a hematopoietic cell-intrinsic defect. New overlapping features with DiGeorge syndrome included primary hypoparathyroidism (n = 5) and congenital heart defects (n = 2), in line with PAX1 expression during early embryogenesis. Our results highlight new features of PAX1 deficiency, which are relevant to improving early diagnosis and identifying patients requiring corrective treatment

Background: SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had many significant impacts within the surgical realm, and surgeons have been obligated to reconsider almost every aspect of daily clinical practice. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study reported in compliance with the CHERRIES guidelines and conducted through an online platform from June 14th to July 15th, 2020. The primary outcome was the burden of burnout during the pandemic indicated by the validated Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure. Results: Nine hundred fifty-four surgeons completed the survey. The median length of practice was 10 years; 78.2% included were male with a median age of 37 years old, 39.5% were consultants, 68.9% were general surgeons, and 55.7% were affiliated with an academic institution. Overall, there was a significant increase in the mean burnout score during the pandemic; longer years of practice and older age were significantly associated with less burnout. There were significant reductions in the median number of outpatient visits, operated cases, on-call hours, emergency visits, and research work, so, 48.2% of respondents felt that the training resources were insufficient. The majority (81.3%) of respondents reported that their hospitals were included in the management of COVID-19, 66.5% felt their roles had been minimized; 41% were asked to assist in non-surgical medical practices, and 37.6% of respondents were included in COVID-19 management. Conclusions: There was a significant burnout among trainees. Almost all aspects of clinical and research activities were affected with a significant reduction in the volume of research, outpatient clinic visits, surgical procedures, on-call hours, and emergency cases hindering the training. Trial registration: The study was registered on clicaltrials.gov "NCT04433286" on 16/06/2020

In this thesis, the techniques for a generalized parameter tuning of power system stabilizer to damp the oscillatory modes of generator connected to a single machine infinite bus system is presented. A linear dynamic model is obtained by linearizing the nonlinear model for a power system around an operating point. On the basis of linearized Heffron-Phillips model, a PSS is installed to the power system. The damping function of the PSS with various alternative PSS control signals are investigated. The global optimization techniques such as differential evolution, particle swarm optimization have been applied for the optimization of PSS parameters. A new approach for the optimal design of PSS parameter is investigated and the problem of a robust PSS design is formulated as a multi objective optimization problem and Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm is used to solve it. The effectiveness of the proposed Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm based Power system stabilizers is tested on a single machine power system under different operating conditions and also results are demonstrated through several disturbances. The tuning scheme proposed in this study uses the Differential Evolution, Particle Swarm Optimization and Artificial Bee Colony technique that minimizes settling time and overshoot as well as the control signal violation. Minimizing the overshoot is equivalent to increasing system damping. Moreover a necessary compromise between swiftness of response and allowable overshoot is achieved. The robustness and avoiding conservatism in design, the maximum overshoot is selected to be the worst over wide range operation. It is found that designed robust controller, Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm based Power System Stabilizer provides better damping enhancement for various operating points of single machine system connected to an infinite bus. In addition, the applied method compared with the conventional PSS, the Differential Evolution based Power System Stabilizer and the Particle Swarm Optimization based Power System Stabilizer to analyze the effectiveness of the model. Where as, the proposed controller gains are static and one controller structure is able to damp out the oscillations for different operation points. The proposed method results showed better response behaviour to damp out the oscillations
