Eroded public trust and financial support threaten charity organizations\u27 sustainability. Charity directors are concerned with eroding trust as lack of confidence adversely impacts the economic lives of disadvantaged communities. Grounded in Stewart’s ladder of accountability theory and Alderfer’s existence, relatedness, and growth theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies charitable organizations’ leaders use to maintain donors’ trust and ensure continued donations. The participants were five charity directors who used strategies to maintain donors’ trust and ensure ongoing donations. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and document reviews. Through Braun and Clarke\u27s six-step thematic analysis, six significant themes were identified: accountability, transparency, government funding, having good policies in place, meeting donors’ psychological needs to donate, and working with affiliated charities. A key recommendation for charity leaders is to adopt and maintain accountability and transparency best practices, including the availability and disclosure of annual independent audited financial statements to minimize scandals and misappropriation of funds, safeguard resources, maintain donors’ trust, and ensure continued donations. The implications for positive social change include the potential to implement charitable programs and activities to improve the local community\u27s educational, social, and economic lives of disadvantaged people

Asimismo, se demuestra que existe correlación directa, moderada y significativa entre las variables inteligencia emocional y desempeño laboral en la muestra de estudioIn the present research, the relationship between emotional intelligence and work performance of teachers in the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of the Peruvian University of the Americas is studied, the type of research carried out is transversal, descriptive with correlational design. The sample consisted of 178 subjects, who were selected probabilistically, and to whom the collection instruments were applied to measure the variables emotional intelligence and work performance. The results obtained were analyzed at the descriptive level, where frequencies and percentages have been used to describe the variables investigated and parametric statistics have been used at the inferential level, and as such Pearson's r has been used at a level of 0 , 05, since the data present normal distribution. The results indicate that emotional intelligence and work performance are expressed predominantly at a medium or regular level. Likewise, it is demonstrated that there is a direct, moderate and significant correlation between the variables emotional intelligence and work performance in the study sample

The project ¿Use of National Forest Inventories to downscale European forest diversity spatial information in five test areas, covering different geo-physical and geo-botanical conditions¿, referred also as ¿forest downscaling¿ (JRC contract 382340 F1SC) covers one of the seven topics that have been studied in the frame of the Regulation (EC) 2152/2003 on the monitoring of forest and environmental interactions, the so-called "Forest Focus" Regulation. This study was conducted by a European consortium coordinated by the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences (Italy) and included partners from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the Institute of Forest Ecosystem Research of the Czech Republic, the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products, and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research. The overall supervision of the project and the processing of forest spatial pattern were done by the Joint Research Centre. This study addressed the link between field based forest biological diversity data and landscape-level forest pattern information. The former were made available from National Forest Inventories (NFIs) at plot level in five different countries; their harmonisation was implemented for the first time and benefited from outcomes of the COST Action-E43 on core biodiversity variables. For the latter, landscape level forest spatial pattern maps were automatically derived from available remote sensing based forest cover maps. The relation-ships between selected pattern and biodiversity variables available from the two different data sources were studied. Seven case studies for a total area of about 100,000 km2 were selected in five European ecological regions: one site in Germany (Atlantic zone), one in Sweden (Boreal zone), two in Czech Republic (Continental zone), one in Switzerland (Alpine zone) and two in Italy (Mediterranean zone).JRC.DDG.H.7-Land management and natural hazard

A community-based evaluation of population growth and agro-pastoralist resilience in Sub-Saharan drylands

Human population growth is considered together with climate warming as major driver of change in Sub-Saharan Africa. Research on the implications of increased population densities often utilises community knowledge but without incorporating the view of local stakeholders. In this study, we applied a community-centred approach to assess direct and indirect consequences of population growth in drylands of north-western Kenya. Combined social, agricultural and geo-spatial analyses allowed us to identify major system transitions, determine their linkage to population growth and deduce consequences for local livelihoods and community resilience.Community-members reported positive and negative consequences of fourfold population growth since 1974 but evaluated its overall effect as clearly beneficial. This overall positive effect was based on both, positive developments and the successful mitigation of potential system stressors. First, food security was maintained despite high growth rates because a shift from migratory pastoralism to a more labour-intensive agro-pastoralist system helped to increase agricultural productivity. Additionally, land-use changes were linked to land privatisation and improved erosion protection on private land, decoupling population growth from environmental degradation. We detected, however also early warning signs of reduced community resilience as households were unable to fully recover livestock densities after catastrophic events. A population-growth driven reduction in household land-sizes and the decreased monetary value of agricultural production were identified as drivers of this development. The extrapolation of our results to establish a general relationship between population densities, land-use and household resilience in Sub-Saharan drylands suggest that further system transformations will be required to ensure regional food-security.Swedish Research Counci
