Feature Selection: A perspective on inter-attribute cooperation

High-dimensional datasets depict a challenge for learning tasks in data mining and machine learning. Feature selection is an effective technique in dealing with dimensionality reduction. It is often an essential data processing step prior to applying a learning algorithm. Over the decades, filter feature selection methods have evolved from simple univariate relevance ranking algorithms to more sophisticated relevance-redundancy trade-offs and to multivariate dependencies-based approaches in recent years. This tendency to capture multivariate dependence aims at obtaining unique information about the class from the intercooperation among features. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art work on filter feature selection methods assisted by feature intercooperation, and summarizes the contributions of different approaches found in the literature. Furthermore, current issues and challenges are introduced to identify promising future research and development.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figure

Influence of the molecular interaction in the value of molecular volume for the isotropicnematic transition of p-azoxianisol using th emodel HERSW in conjuntion with IPCM model

In this work, we analyzed the experimental pressure-temperature behavior in the Isotropic-Nematic phase transitionfor the liquid crystal p-azoxianisol at 1 atm using a development for the HERSW Conveg Peg model. Additionally, we obtained the values of the molecular volumes for the hard and attractive cores from theoretical quantum calculations at PM3, PM6 and B3LYP/6-311++G levels considering the molecular interaction among the liquidcrystals (PAA)5. We found that the best prediction for experimental data appears when the effect of the molecular interaction is considered in the volume calculation. Specifically for a/b=3.7, V0=70.86 A3 and a/bl=1.95 the best prediction was obtained

Analysis of pixel-mapping rounding on geometric distortion as a prediction for view synthesis distortion

    Get PDF
We analyze the performance of the geometric distortion, incurred when coding depth maps in 3D Video, as an estimator of the distortion of synthesized views. Our analysis is motivated by the need of reducing the computational complexity required for the computation of synthesis distortion in 3D video encoders. We propose several geometric distortion models that capture (i) the geometric distortion caused by the depth coding error, and (ii) the pixel-mapping precision in view synthesis. Our analysis starts with the evaluation of the correlation of geometric distortion values obtained with these models and the actual distortion on synthesized views. Then, the different geometric distortion models are employed in the rate-distortion optimization cycle of depth map coding, in order to assess the results obtained by the correlation analysis. Results show that one of the geometric distortion models is performing consistently better than the other models in all tests. Therefore, it can be used as a reasonable estimator of the synthesis distortion in low complexity depth encoders

Design Optimization of a Planar Spiral Inductor Using Space Mapping

    Get PDF
This paper addresses the implementation of a computationally efficient optimization technique for designing structures simulated in 3D electromagnetic field solvers. A probe of concept is done by the EM-based optimization of a planar spiral inductor for high-power applications. The optimization technique employed is based on space mapping (SM) methods, more specifically on the Broyden-based input space mapping algorithm. Our optimization results confirm the efficiency of the proposed approach

“Libros para niñas y libros para niños”: presencia de estereotipos de género en una colección de libros para dibujar

    Get PDF

Application of the Game Theory with Perfect Information to an agricultural company

[EN] This paper deals with the application of Game Theory with Perfect Information to an agricultural economics problem. The goal of this analysis is demonstrating the possibility of obtaining an equilibrium point, as proposed by Nash, in the case of an agricultural company that is considered together with its three sub-units in developing a game with perfect information. Production results in terms of several crops will be considered in this game, together with the necessary parameters to implement different linear programming problems. In the game with perfect information with the hierarchical structure established between the four considered players (a management center and three production units), a Nash equilibrium point is reached, since once the strategies of the rest of the players are known, if any of them would use a strategy different to the one proposed, their earnings would be less than the ones obtained by using the proposed strategies. When the four linear programming problems are solved, a particular case of equilibrium point is reached.Supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) (Projects No. A2/039476/11).Cabrera García, S.; Imbert Tamayo, JE.; Carbonell Olivares, J.; Pacheco Cabrera, Y.
