Inversion of Sequence of Diffusion and Density Anomalies in Core-Softened Systems
In this paper we present a simulation study of water-like anomalies in
core-softened system introduced in our previous publications. We investigate
the anomalous regions for a system with the same functional form of the
potential but with different parameters and show that the order of the region
of anomalous diffusion and the region of density anomaly is inverted with
increasing the width of the repulsive shoulder.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figure

Genome-Wide Analysis Reveals Novel Regulators of Growth in Drosophila melanogaster.
Organismal size depends on the interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Genome-wide association (GWA) analyses in humans have implied many genes in the control of height but suffer from the inability to control the environment. Genetic analyses in Drosophila have identified conserved signaling pathways controlling size; however, how these pathways control phenotypic diversity is unclear. We performed GWA of size traits using the Drosophila Genetic Reference Panel of inbred, sequenced lines. We find that the top associated variants differ between traits and sexes; do not map to canonical growth pathway genes, but can be linked to these by epistasis analysis; and are enriched for genes and putative enhancers. Performing GWA on well-studied developmental traits under controlled conditions expands our understanding of developmental processes underlying phenotypic diversity
Performance Bottlenecks in Digital Movie Systems
Digital movie systems offer great perspectives for multimedia applications. But the large amounts of data involved and the demand for isochronous transmission and playback are also great challenges for the designers of a new generation of file systems, database systems, operating systems, window systems, video encoder/decoder and networks. Today's research prototypes of digital movie systems suffer from severe performance bottlenecks, resulting in small movie windows, low frame rates or bad image quality (or all of these!). We consider the performance problem to be the most important problem with digital movie systems, preventing their widespread use today. In this paper we address performance issues of digital movie systems from a practical perspective. We report on performance experience gained with the XMovie system and new algorithms and protocols to overcome some of these bottlenecks
Phytochrome Mediated Responses in Agrobacterium fabrum: Growth, Motility and Plant Infection
The soil bacterium and plant pathogen Agrobacterium fabrum C58 has two phytochrome photoreceptors, Agp1 and Agp2. We found that plant infection and tumor induction by A. fabrum is down-regulated by light and that phytochrome knockout mutants of A. fabrum have diminished infection rates. The regulation pattern of infection matches with that of bacterial conjugation reported earlier, suggesting similar regulatory mechanisms. In the regulation of conjugation and plant infection, phytochromes are active in darkness. This is a major difference to plant phytochromes, which are typically active after irradiation. We also found that propagation and motility were affected in agp1− and agp2− knockout mutants, although propagation was not always affected by light. The regulatory patterns can partially but not completely be explained by modulated histidine kinase activities of Agp1 and Agp2. In a mass spectrometry-based proteomic study, 24 proteins were different between light and dark grown A. fabrum, whereas 382 proteins differed between wild type and phytochrome knockout mutants, pointing again to light independent roles of Agp1 and Agp2

Ontology-Based Integration of Streaming and Static Relational Data with Optique
An important application of semantic technologies in industry has been the formalisation of information models usingOWL 2 ontologies and the use of RDF for storing and exchanging application data. Moreover, legacy data can be virtualised asRDF using ontologies following the ontology-based data access (OBDA) approach. In all these applications, it is important toprovide domain experts with query formulation tools for expressing their information needs in terms of queries over ontologies. Inthis work, we present such a tool, OptiqueVQS, which is designed based on our experience with OBDA applications in Statoil andSiemens and on best HCI practices for interdisciplinary engineering environments. OptiqueVQS implements a number of uniquetechniques distinguishing it from analogous query formulation systems. In particular, it exploits ontology projection techniquesto enable graph-based navigation over an ontology during query construction. Secondly, while OptiqueVQS is primarily ontologydriven, it exploits sampled data to enhance selection of data values for some data attributes. Finally, OptiqueVQS is built onwell-grounded requirements, design rationale, and quality attributes. We evaluated OptiqueVQS with both domain experts andcasual users and qualitatively compared our system against prominent visual systems for ontology-driven query formulation andexploration of semantic data. This paper describes the outcomes of an ongoing collaboration between Siemens and the University of Oxford, with the goal of facilitating the design of ontologies and their deployment in applications. Ontologies are often used in industry to capture the conceptual information models underpinning applications. We start by describing the role that such models play in two use cases in the manufacturing and energy production sectors. Then, we discuss the formalisation of information models using ontologies, and the relevant reasoning services. Finally, we present SOMM—a tool that supports engineers with little background on semantic technologies in the creation of ontology-based models and in populating them with data. SOMM implements a fragment of OWL 2 RL extended with a form of integrity constraints for data validation, and it comes with support for schema and data reasoning, as well as for model integration. Our preliminary evaluation demonstrates the adequacy of SOMM’s functionality and performance
Polarization degrees of freedom in photoinduced two-nucleon knockout from finite nuclei
The polarization degrees of freedom in photoinduced two-nucleon knockout from
finite nuclei are studied. It is pointed out that they open good perspectives
to study the dynamics of dinucleons in the medium in detail. The ()
and () angular cross sections, photon asymmetries and outgoing
nucleon polarizations are calculated for the target nuclei O and
C and photonenergies ranging from 100 up to 500 MeV. It is investigated
to which degree the two-nucleon emission reaction is dominated by
photoabsorption on proton-neutron and proton-proton
pairs in the nuclear medium. The calculations demonstrate that dominance of
wave photoabsorption in the () channel does not necessarily imply
that the reaction mechanism is similar to what is observed in deuteron

Measurements of 12C(→γ,pp) photon asymmetries for Eγ= 200–450 MeV
The 12C (→γ ,pp) reaction has been studied in the photon energy range 200-450 MeV at the Mainz microtron MAMI-C, where linearly polarised photons were energy-tagged using the Glasgow-Mainz Tagged Photon Spectrometer and protons were detected in the Crystal Ball detector. The photon asymmetry Σ has been measured over a wider Eγ range than previous measurements. The strongest asymmetries were found at low missing energies where direct emission of nucleon pairs is expected. Cuts on the difference in azimuthal angles of the two ejected protons increased the magnitude of the observed asymmetries. At low missing energies the Σ data exhibit a strong angular dependence, similar to deuteron photodisintegration
