Being-in-the-World-Hispanically: A World on the "Border" of Many Worlds

This translation of Enrique Dussel's “‘Ser-Hispano’: Un Mundo en el ‘Border’ de Muchos Mundos” offers an interpretation of hispanos (Latin Americans and U.S. latinos) as historically, culturally, and geographically located “in-between” many worlds that combine to constitute an identity on the intercultural “border.” To illustrate how hispanos have navigated and continue to navigate their complex history in order to create a polyphonic identity, the essay sketches five historical-cultural “worlds” that come together to form the hispanic “world.

The meaning of S-D dominance

The dominance of S and D pairs in the description of deformed nuclei is one of the facts that provided sustain to the Interacting Boson Approximation. In Ref.(J. Dukelsky and S. Pittel, Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 4791, 2001.), using an exactly solvable model with a repulsive pairing interaction between bosons it has been shown that the ground state is described almost completely in terms of S and D bosons. In the present paper we study the excited states obtained within this exactly solvable hamiltonian and show that in order to obtain a rotational spectra all the other degrees of freedom are needed.Comment: Are S and D pairs enough to describe deformed nuclei

De los carboneros a los vendimiadores : la Virgen de la Carrodilla y su historia

Desde su llegada a Cuyo en el siglo XVIII, la Virgen de la Carrodilla estuvo vinculada con los trabajadores rurales. Primero en las fiestas populares de los cosechadores y después en la Fiesta de la Vendimia con su incorporación al protocolo oficial; al tiempo que fue declarada “Patrona Celestial de los Viñedos" en 1938 por Monseñor Verdaguer. Este trabajo relata la historia de su devoción, que nace en España, en la sierra aragonesa, donde su imagen fue encontrada por unos carboneros en el siglo XIII y, posteriormente su llegada a las tierras cuyanas, para convertirse en una figura identitaria de Mendoza y la vitivinicultura. Se repasa la resignificación de la devoción en el marco de los cambios históricos, sociales y culturales y, también los cambios iconográficos hasta su vinculación al mural compuesto Coronación de la Virgen de la Carrodilla, obra que conforma su representación.Since her arrival to Cuyo in the 18th century, the Virgin of Carrodilla was linked with rural workers. First in the popular festivities of the harvesters, and then on the Feast of the Harvest with their incorporation into the official protocol; by the time she was declared "Heavenly Patroness of the Vineyards" in 1938 by Bishop Verdaguer. This work tells the story of her devotion, that is born in Spain, in the sierra in Aragon, where his image was found by some coal miners in the 13th century, and later their arrival to the lands of Cuyo, to become a figure of identity of Mendoza and the viticulture. UNA NUEVA EDAD EN LA HISTORIA DE LA FILOSOFÍA: EL DIÁLOGO MUNDIAL ENTRE TRADICIONES FILOSÓFICAS

La ponencia sostiene las siguientes tesis. 1. Es necesario afirmar que toda la humanidad ha expresado siempre ciertos «núcleos problemáticos universales» que se presentan en todas las culturas. 2. Las respuestas racionales a esos «núcleos» adquieren primeramente la forma de narraciones míticas. 3. La formulación de discursos categoriales filosóficos es un nuevo desarrollo en la racionalidad humana, que no invalida todas las narrativas míticas. Estos discursos filosóficos se han dado en todas las grandes culturas urbanas neolíticas (aunque sea en un nivel muy inicial). 4. La filosofía moderna europea confundió el dominio económico político de su cultura y la crisis derivada de las otras filosofías regionales con una eurocéntrica pretensión de universalidad que debe cuestionarse. 5. De todos modos hay aspectos formales universales en los que todas las filosofías regionales pueden coincidir, y responden a los «núcleos problemáticos» en un nivel abstracto. 6. Todo ello impulsa a entrar en una nueva Edad de diálogo inter-filosófico, respetuoso de las diferencias y aprendices de los descubrimientos útiles de las otras tradiciones. 7. Habría que formular un proyecto que, superando la Modernidad eurocéntrica filosófica, intente un pluriverso trans-moderno, mundial, a partir del desarrollo de los recursos propios, de las filosofías periféricas, subalternas, postcoloniales, «desechados» por la Modernidad

Cooper pairs in atomic nuclei

We consider the development of Cooper pairs in a self-consistent Hartree Fock mean field for the even Sm isotopes. Results are presented at the level of a BCS treatment, a number-projected BCS treatment and an exact treatment using the Richardson ansatz. While projected BCS captures much of the pairing correlation energy that is absent from BCS, it still misses a sizable correlation energy, typically of order $1 MeV$. Furthermore, because it does not average over the properties of the fermion pairs, the exact Richardson solution permits a more meaningful definition of the Cooper wave function and of the fraction of pairs that are collective.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
