The following report concerns the tasks I have performed during the time I worked for RUPEAL under the KWAN brand. Its structure is both based on a pratical and theoretical approach, in order to best explain the tasks and their purpose. This approach relied on the knowledge I obtained during my masters in digital marketing and the knowledge obtained whilst working at RUPEAL. The report’s objective, apart from describing my experience at KWAN, is to display the connection between the brand’s marketing goals and how these goals interacted with digital marketing

The aeronautical industry is evolving very rapidly mainly due to the development of technology. These technological advances have allowed the Man to develop projects that are very ambitious as is the case of "flying cars". This concept has been developed since the '80s, but only now have arisen prototypes capable of satisfying this dream. With this, the appearance of VTOL aircraft, aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically, without needing any runways to do so. For this project, helicopters are not considered as VTOL aircraft because they are not very energy efficient. Many companies have developed VTOL aircraft, with design and consequently characteristics very different from each other, but having in common being hybrid or fully electric aircraft. For this study, a "fictitious" airline company was created using VTOL aircraft. The service characterization was then carried out, where using localization algorithms and trajectory optimization, we were able to elaborate an application (software) that treats the data of the flights to the marked ones by clients to optimize the routes/trajectories of the flights. Then the elaboration of a model and a business plan was made, and it is possible to observe the viability of the economic-financial results of the new (fictitious) company.

Creation of sustainable transportation service for a new and virtual airline company that uses VTOL aircraft in order to increase mobility and flexibility in Portugal. This study started with the VTOL concepts, peripherally and accessibility, and business models and plans reviews. The air service characterization was then carried out using localization and trajectory optimization algorithms, thus allowing to elaborate two applications (software): one for clients to book their flights and another that compiles flight's data booked by clients and optimizes flights routes/trajectories. With this study, it is possible to depict the viability of the economic-financial results of the new virtual company and the application development results with the optimized trajectories. The development of this air service will increase accessibility and mobility in all regions of Portugal and companies that cannot afford the costs of executive aviation, too. In order to facilitate the booking of the flights, an application was created for the client in order to optimize the company costs related to this air service, and thus to make the cost of a trip more appealing; a second application was elaborated that optimizes the trajectories of the aircraft.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

In this work, the mathematical analysis of a switched self-oscillating amplifier is performed, considering a propagation delay and/or hysteresis in the relay in order to ensure the oscillation conditions. To validate this theory, several simulations are performed, and the design process of a self-oscillating amplifier is described. Then, a practical prototype is built, and its experimental data is compared against circuit simulation data and the results obtained using the proposed mathematical model

Born in Lisbon as a Limited Liability Corporation, the “Companhia da Ilha do Príncipe”, located in São Tomé and Príncipe (a former Portuguese colony), had as its main objective the intensive agriculture exploitation, namely of cocoa, from 1894 and onwards. Several Portuguese businessmen were involved in its administration, with special emphasis of the successors of industrialist Alfredo da Silva – founder of the CUF group – who were already leading the Corporation in the 1950s and continued until its closure in 1975. Aside from identifying the founders, shareholders, leading managers and administrators, this article intends to provide an interpretation exercise in business history, analyzing many sources – particularly the company's annual reports – to understand the intricacies of an intensive agricultural production in a colonial context. Many other issues will be discussed, such as the workforce employed, the industrial spaces, the equipment used, and also the limitations and main guidelines in what concerns the management system of the corporation’s farms

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN WELLNESS STATUS AND PERCEIVED TRAINING LOAD ON DAILY AND WEEKLY BASES OVER A BASKETBALL SEASON

This study aimed to determine the relationships between internal training load (session-RPE) and wellness status (delayed onset muscle soreness – DOMS, stress, fatigue, and sleep quality) on both daily and weekly bases over a basketball season. Fifteen professional basketball players provided their wellness status and perceived training load for all training sessions and matches over a season. Daily correlations were based on the perceived load of a training session/match and the wellness status rated on the following day (before the next session). Weekly correlations were based on the sum of all ratings of the week for each variable. Results showed that DOMS and fatigue presented higher correlations with session-RPE than stress and sleep quality on both daily and weekly analyses. Daily measures presented small-to-moderate correlations between the perceived training load and wellness categories over the months. Weekly correlations increased (moderate-tolarge) for all wellness categories, except for stress. We concluded that DOMS and fatigue are more associated to session-RPE than stress and sleep quality in professional basketball players. Weekly analyses may help coaches to better understand the impact of training load on athletes’ physical wellness (DOMS and fatigue), possibly due to a delayed physiological response to training load

Genotyping of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains by interdelta sequence typing using automated microfluidics

    Get PDF
Amplification of genomic sequences flanked by delta elements of retrotransposons TY1 and TY2 is a reliable method for characterization of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains. The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of microfluidic electrophoresis (Caliper LabChip®) to assess the factors that affect interlaboratory reproducibility of interdelta sequence typing for S. cerevisiae strain delimitation. We carried out experiments in two laboratories, using varying combinations of Taq DNA polymerases and thermal cyclers. The reproducibility of the technique is evaluated using non-parametric statistical tests and we show that the source of Taq DNA polymerase and technical differences between laboratories have the highest impact on reproducibility, whereas thermal cyclers have little impact. We also show that the comparative analysis of interdelta patterns is more reliable when fragment sizes are compared, than when absolute and relative DNA concentrations of each band are considered. Interdelta analysis based on a smaller fraction of bands with intermediate sizes between 100 and 1000 bp yield the highest reproducibility.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologi

Body composition and grip strength constraints in elite male rink-hockey players of contrasting ethnicity

Rink hockey is a highly specialized and physiological demanding sport with sparse research regarding the game and athletes’ characteristics. A cross-sectional study was developed to characterize the body composition and grip strength of elite male rink hockey players and to establish the relationship between ethnicity on body composition and grip strength. A sample of 100 elite rink-hockey athletes aged 26.59 ± 6.02 participated in the study, comprised of 69 Caucasian male adults aged 27.58 ± 6.44 years and 31 Black African male adults aged 24.39 ± 4.27. Body composition was assessed by anthropometric measurements. Static grip strength was assessed with an adjustable dynamometer. Multiple regression analysis was applied to understand which variables constraints body fat percentage (BF) and grip strength. Body mass showed an average of 76.36 ± 9.18 kg for 175.80 ± 5.87 cm of height and BF% of 10.82 ± 5.07%. Maximal right grip strength was 50.91 ± 6.26 kg and 50.27 ± 6.23 kg for left grip strength. Four predictors accounted for 70.01% of the variance of BF%: abdominal circumference (p < 0.001), right thigh circumference (p < 0.001), right calf circumference (p = 0.001) and ethnicity (p = 0.016). Three predictors accounted for 13.1% of the variance of right grip strength: ethnicity (p = 0.013), chronological age (p = 0.024) and right distal thigh circumference (p = 0.014). Results suggest that elite rink hockey athletes have a specific anthropometric identity, which at the elite level may lead to reduced body fat and greater handgrip strength. Ethnicity seems to predict body fat and grip strength in elite rink hockey athletes.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
