Design of weak 1-D bragg grating filters in SOI waveguides using volume holography techniques
To answer the growing need for more versatile integrated spectral filters, we show that weak one-dimensional gratings can be designed towards any desired target spectrum. We follow a very straightforward design procedure to demonstrate the performance of these devices. Measurements and simulations show a very good correspondence with the target spectra. By analyzing the results, we also found that the design procedure can be refined by using simulated reflections, instead of relying on the calculated Fresnel reflections
Reliability analysis of semi-automatic train door systems in service on today's rolling stock of the SNCB
This article analyses the reliability of semi-automatic train door systems that are in use on today’s rolling stock of the SNCB. For the analysis several databases of the SNCB concerning both operation and maintenance were thoroughly screened. These databases are briefly explained and scaling factors are applied to compare the performance of different series of rolling stock relative to each other. Conclusions are made out of the available data
Optimized silicon AWG with flattened spectral response using an MMI aperture
We demonstrate compact 12-channel 400 GHz arrayed waveguide grating wavelength demultiplexers (AWG) in silicon with a flattened spectral response. Insertion loss, crosstalk and non-uniformity are -3.29 dB, 17.0 dB and 1.55 dB, respectively. The flattened spectral response is obtained by using an optimized mode shaper consisting of a multi-mode interference coupler as the input aperture of the AWG. The ratio of the 1 dB bandwidth to the 10 dB bandwidth is improved by 50%, from 0.33 to 0.49 compared to a conventional AWG. The device size is only 560x350 mu m(2)
