    EFFECT OF LENGTH OF STAY ON GUEST SATISFACTION-AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF INDIAN HOTEL INDUSTRY

    The unpredictable and dynamic changes experienced by the corporate world have transformed the business environment. Now the key for remaining successful is in retaining customers rather than in acquiring customers. Customer satisfaction is considered the essence of success in today's highly competitive world of business, and it has become the corporate goal as more and more companies strive for quality in their product. The purpose of this article is to examine the influence of ‘length of stay’of a guest in a hotel, on satisfaction, revisit intention and making favorable referrals. This paper considers the reaction of ‘international travelers’ who have boarded their flight from Chennai, India. Outcome of this research indicates that one of the critical challenges faced by the hoteliers is to create opportunities to their guests to experience (all) the facilities available in the hotel, especially for those who stay for a shorter period. Results shows that length of stay positively influences the satisfaction level but not revisit attitude and positive referrals. Most of the research activities undertaken at any level are aimed towards the welfare and betterment of living being and humans being the first consideration. Medical research has always been the supreme fantasy of humans as it has got direct bearing upon human health and longevity of life. In the present study attempt has been made to have an analysis of medical literature produced in four most primer medical and research institutions of India. To undertake the study, data was retrieved from Web of Science, Thomson Reuters on November 08, 2012 and the analysis is being undertaken on those publications only identified on this particular databank. The study is undertaken with the view to assess the general publication trend of medical sciences in India by undertaking four primer medical institutions under study. Study of the related literature has also been undertaken so as to develop better understanding of the concept and thereby help in the furtherance of its scope

    EFFECT OF YOGIC PRACTICES ON SELECTED PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIABLES AMONG BASKETBALL PLAYERS

    The purpose of the present study was to find out the effect of yogic practices on selected physiological variables among basketball players. For the purpose of the study forty men basketball players were selected as subjects from S.V.N College and Arul Anandar College, Madurai, Tamilnadu at random and their age ranged from 18 to 25 years. The selected subjects are divided in to two groups of twenty subjects each. Group I acted as Yogic practices and Group II acted as control group. The experimental group participated Yogic practices programme for twelve weeks duration in addition to their regular professional activities of the college as per the curriculum. The control group was not undergone any training other than their daily routine. The criterion measures systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure was measured by sphygmomanometer. The two groups were statistically analysed by using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) at 0.05 level. The result of the study reveals that there was a significant improvement in the experimental group on selected variables when compared to the control group after the completion of twelve weeks of yogic practices

    FPGA Implementation of Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) Waveforms for Radar

    The last few years have seen advances in radar signal generation and processing techniques with the development of powerful hardware and software. The key objective in designing a pulsed radar system is to attain a good range resolution and achieve maximum range detection. Pulse compression is a technique of signal processing that offers the advantages of greater range resolution capability as in case of short duration pulse and larger range detection capability of long duration pulse. Pulse compression using Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) is a prevalent method in modern radar. In this proposed design, the LFM waveforms are generated using Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) technique. A carry save adder is used to optimize adder operations. The high speed adder architecture provides a greater system performance.     ABSTRACT In this Paper, a viable analysis and implementation of local modular Supervisory Control Theory for a manufacturing cell is predicted in the best possible manners to capture the necessities of idealizing the programmable logic controller (PLC). By means of local modular approach a methodology that reveals modularity of the plant and of the behavioral specifications models optimal supervisors are obtained without state-space explosion. For the purpose of simplifying the ladder diagram implementation in the PLC, reduced supervisors are implemented in a three level structure that executes the modular supervisor's concurrent action and interfaces the theoretical model with the real system. The flexible and productive manufacturing cell behavior, after the control system practical implementation, and the final PLC code readability and flexibility are positive quality indicators to the applied methodology

    A doubly stochastic rainfall model with exponentially decaying pulses

    We develop a doubly stochastic point process model with exponentially decaying pulses to describe the statistical properties of the rainfall intensity process. Mathematical formulation of the point process model is described along with second-order moment characteristics of the rainfall depth and aggregated processes. The derived second-order properties of the accumulated rainfall at different aggregation levels are used in model assessment. A data analysis using 15 years of sub-hourly rainfall data from England is presented. Models with fixed and variable pulse lifetime are explored. The performance of the model is compared with that of a doubly stochastic rectangular pulse model. The proposed model fits most of the empirical rainfall properties well at sub-hourly, hourly and daily aggregation levels

    Inter- and intra-rater reliabilities of the Beighton Score compared to the Contompasis Score to assess Generalised Joint Hypermobility

    Objectives: Generalized Joint Hypermobility [GJH] is a common connective tissue disorder associated with a range of musculoskeletal complaints. An effective screening tool to assess GJH may influence our understanding and choice of management. Diagnosis is clinical, using tools such as the Beighton Hypermobility Score and the Contompasis Scoring System. The comparable reliability of these tools has not been previously reported. The aim of the present study was to compare the intra- and the inter-rater reliability of the Beighton Score to the Contompasis Score to assess GJH. Methods: This was an observational study assessing 36 pain-free participants; 27 females and nine males; aged 18–32 years. Participants were assessed in random order, by two researchers over two sessions to determine intra- and inter-rater analyses. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient [ICC] and weighted Kappa statistics were used to calculate the level of agreement. Results: The intra- [ICC: 0.71–0.82] and the inter- [ICC: 0.72–0.80] rater reliability of the Beighton Score was substantial to almost perfect. The Contompasis Score displayed substantial to almost perfect intra-rater [ICC: 0.73–0.82] reliability and moderate to substantial inter-rater [ICC: 0.58–0.62] reliability. Conclusions: The present study provides an indication of the measurement capabilities of the Beighton and Contompasis Scores. The Beighton score appears to be superior compared with the Contompasis score particularly based on inter-rater reliability

    A 15.65 solar mass black hole in an eclipsing binary in the nearby spiral galaxy Messier 33

    Stellar-mass black holes are discovered in X-ray emitting binary systems, where their mass can be determined from the dynamics of their companion stars. Models of stellar evolution have difficulty producing black holes in close binaries with masses >10 solar masses, which is consistent with the fact that the most massive stellar black holes known so all have masses within 1 sigma of 10 solar masses. Here we report a mass of 15.65 +/- 1.45 solar masses for the black hole in the recently discovered system M33 X-7, which is located in the nearby galaxy Messier 33 (M33) and is the only known black hole that is in an eclipsing binary. In order to produce such a massive black hole, the progenitor star must have retained much of its outer envelope until after helium fusion in the core was completed. On the other hand, in order for the black hole to be in its present 3.45 day orbit about its 70.0 +/- 6.9 solar mass companion, there must have been a ``common envelope'' phase of evolution in which a significant amount of mass was lost from the system. We find the common envelope phase could not have occured in M33 X-7 unless the amount of mass lost from the progenitor during its evolution was an order of magnitude less than what is usually assumed in evolutionary models of massive stars.Comment: To appear in Nature October 18, 2007.
