    Sensitivity analysis of permeability parameters of bovine nucleus pulposus obtained through inverse fitting of the nonlinear biphasic equation : effect of sampling strategy

    Permeability controls the fluid flow into and out of soft tissue, and plays an important role in maintaining the health status of such tissue. Accurate determination of the parameters that define permeability is important for the interpretation of models that incorporate such processes. This paper describes the determination of strain-dependent permeability parameters from the nonlinear biphasic equation from experimental data of different sampling frequencies using the Nelder–Mead simplex method. The ability of this method to determine the global optimum was assessed by constructing the whole manifold arising from possible parameter combinations. Many parameter combinations yielded similar fits with the Nelder–Mead algorithm able to identify the global maximum within the resolution of the manifold. Furthermore, the sampling strategy affected the optimum values of the permeability parameters. Therefore, permeability parameter estimations arising from inverse methods should be utilised with the knowledge that they come with large confidence intervals

At the same time, educators are challenged with preparing students to function in the workplace where change is a given, as on average workers spend an average of 9.25 hours per week looking for or analyzing data [4]. Initiatives to keep instruction relevant and prepare students to be information literate mandate that students be able to discover, digest, and put into context new information about technologies.     Your foundations are set - clear syllabus, collaborative assignments, scheduled library instructions, and excellent faculty-librarian communication - but what about demonstrated learning, updated technologies, and an infusion of instruction energy? Sometimes a librarian needs to partner with faculty to initiate a demolition and reengineering of the collaborative bridge. Our dilemma: Should we patch up an existing assignment or tackle a course reengineering? Using new girders of current learning theory, measurable learning outcomes, concept maps, just-in-time instructions, research consultations, and information literacy assessments, we rebuilt the class. Dig into the foundation with us and explore using these supports to help your collaborative bridges stand firm. As the Builders , the presenters will describe the rebuilding process, demonstrate tools and techniques, provide sample classroom materials, solicit input, and lead discussion. As the Designers , participants will consider this project for their own use, evaluate the tools for usability and scale, and interact with other designers in coordinated discussion

    PHYSIOLOGICAL ROLE OF HUNTERIA UMBELLATA FRUIT EXTRACT ON HORMONAL AND RENAL PROFILE IN CADMIUM INDUCED TOXICITY MALE WISTAR RATS

    The present study was design with an objective to investigate the toxicity level of cadmium chloride on hormonal and biochemical markers and the restoration strength of Hunteria umbellata aqueous fruit extract administered at various dosage level of treatment in induced male wistar rats. The parameters investigated includes LH,FSH, Testosterone, Prolactin, Urea, Creatinine, and Uric acid following 0.07ml and 0.06ml single dose cdclâ‚‚ induction of group2 and group3.However group4 was administered 0.03ml cdclâ‚‚ daily while group1 serve as the control.Group2 was treated at 400mg/kg and group3 at 200mg/kg extract daily while group4 received no treatment but feed  and water ad libidum.Results from this study shows higher FSH (0.52 m/u/ml), LH (1.32 m/u/ml) and Prolactin (1.17ng/ml) among group3 treated at 200mg/kg extract of the Hunteria umbellata fruit. This was closely followed by group2 treated at 400mg/kg body weight ie LH (0.74 m/u/ml), Prolactin (1.04ng/ml) compared with group4 FSH of (0.25 m/u/ml), LH (0.37 m/u/ml) and control. The testosterone level was higher in group2 (4.65 ng/ml) compared with other groups. The study shows higher renal markers in group4 administered cdclâ‚‚ without treatment. However in group2 treated at 400mg/kg extract had decreased renal markers followed by group3 treated at 200mg/kg extract.ie results from this study further indicate higher renal indices among group4 administered oral cdclâ‚‚ daily with urea having (10.70mmol/l), Creatinine (178.5µmol/l) and uric acid (430.0µmol/l) compared with the control group of (9.6mmol/l),(165µmol/l) and (375µmol/l) respectively. This study have shown clearly the physio-pharmacological effect of Hunteria umbellata fruit extract in increasing glomerullar filtration rate to clear off these parameters from the blood and restore normal renal function

We utilized the qualitative methodology of portraiture to explore how professional counselors understand their own personal guiding theories of counseling. Three research portraits are shared that demonstrate how participants use the counseling relationship as the means to incorporate their personal guiding theories into their work with clients. Implications for counselors and counselor educators and future research are presented

    Information Gathering in Ad-Hoc Radio Networks with Tree Topology

    We study the problem of information gathering in ad-hoc radio networks without collision detection, focussing on the case when the network forms a tree, with edges directed towards the root. Initially, each node has a piece of information that we refer to as a rumor. Our goal is to design protocols that deliver all rumors to the root of the tree as quickly as possible. The protocol must complete this task within its allotted time even though the actual tree topology is unknown when the computation starts. In the deterministic case, assuming that the nodes are labeled with small integers, we give an O(n)-time protocol that uses unbounded messages, and an O(n log n)-time protocol using bounded messages, where any message can include only one rumor. We also consider fire-and-forward protocols, in which a node can only transmit its own rumor or the rumor received in the previous step. We give a deterministic fire-and- forward protocol with running time O(n^1.5), and we show that it is asymptotically optimal. We then study randomized algorithms where the nodes are not labelled. In this model, we give an O(n log n)-time protocol and we prove that this bound is asymptotically optimal

    The research conducted in this project is on electrical propulsion in aviation. A Cessna 172K aircraft with a Lycoming O-320-E2D piston engine serves as a baseline measurement. Investigation of the components required for electrical flight is performed, and components are selected based on market availability and operational performance criteria. This research focuses on electrical propulsion in the aviation industry, and is tailored to aircraft within the General Aviation sector leading to the following research question: Can current electric motor and battery technologies conceptually support flight operations for a Cessna 172K in terms of aircraft performance criteria? The results explore the potential for a fully-electric aircraft powered by means of batteries. A demonstrated flight is examined and the center of gravity is calculated

    Charge Lattices and Consistency of 6D Supergravity

    We extend the known consistency conditions on the low-energy theory of six-dimensional N = 1 supergravity. We review some facts about the theory of two-form gauge fields and conclude that the charge lattice Gamma for such a theory has to be self-dual. The Green-Schwarz anomaly cancellation conditions in the supergravity theory determine a sublattice of Gamma.
